This article in the New York Times (9/25/09) exposes political influence that can guide the decision making goings on at the FDA.
Although not e-cig related, it is a showcase for the corruption that can be insinuated on this supposedly safety-conscious agency by lawmakers and industry insiders.
When this level of problem is able to slip past the safeguards that are in place, how can we trust much that occurs in those cloistered hallways.

The above link is no longer working. When I click on it the article pops up for about half a second then I get a message the page no longer exists. Tried doing a search on the NYT page for FDA and the article title is listed but the page will not open.

Wonder if the NYT is susceptible to outside influence as well and got censored hehe :p

Actually, it is somewhat related to e cigs. Frank R. Lautenberg was the Senator with major financial ties to BP who first called for a ban on e-cigs.

My first thought when I read here that the FDA may ban the use of these PV's was....because there can be no legitimate reason to ban them, then bribes can be the only reason. If you were a member of the FDA and a tobacco company offered you 5 million dollars today to vote to outlaw the PV, would you hesitate for even a second to think about your answer?

It would be extremely difficult to say no to that offer. I had an uncle who was a legislator in Kansas for a time years ago. He got out of politics because of all the bribes and corruption. I hope I would have his integrity, but this I know...probably not many people do, and that makes me think that a ban is certainly a possibility.

That is not to say we couldn't use PV's. Are we justified in 'breaking a law' that is made of corruption and false logic? I think so. Will it help if the FDA knows that a law banning PV's could not be enforced? Maybe.

I'm actually not too worried, I think I could make a PV if I had to, or at least find someone who could. In the meantime, I'm well supplied and hope others are too.

Sigh.....the more I read of all the corruption ....the more I wish the people in my sig link could start to run the world.

It doesn't matter what system you are under or who is in charge, there will always be corruption ~ until the majority of people on this planet begin treating each other as equals. We have to get over the idea that we are separate from each other. 'Them vs. Us' will one day become 'One For All and All for One'. When that happens there will no longer be the corruption, pay offs, or manipulation that helps some but hurts others. Nay sayers will moan that this will never happen, but trust me it will.

The only way it will start is by calling the scondrils to the carpet everytime. Until then run your life as if every other life depends upon what you do or don't do.

Wait... so the FDA wants us to go through the regulatory process to become a medical device, yet the FDA openly admits that their process is possibly corrupt and has some serious issues.

"The agency report was deeply critical of its device approval process and said that confusion over basic rules and how to resolve differences among reviewers was rife. For decades, most medical devices have received only cursory reviews of their safety and efficacy from the agency."

It's no wonder the ecig is in a grey area... the FDA openly admits out loud that there is basic confusion over the rules and the rules will vary from who reviews and who submits.

From what I read, the FDA is under the gun for its EASE in approving and NOT being more hard lined as it should be when approving new medical devices:

"On Wednesday, the agency asked the Institute of Medicine to review the entire process by which the agency approves the vast majority of medical devices. The agency report was deeply critical of its device approval process and said that confusion over basic rules and how to resolve differences among reviewers was rife. For decades, most medical devices have received only cursory reviews of their safety and efficacy from the agency.

For equipment like bed pans and shower curtains, experts agree that quick appraisals are appropriate. But the medical device industry is producing more and more complex machinery like pacemakers and stents."

You obviously didn't click on my link and do any research on the zeitgeist movement and the venus project then.
