I don't think that is about E-cigs in particular. She sounds like she is frustrated over how much time they spend on everything. I'm sure the E-cig case contributes but there is plenty of other poo out there. Just digg FDA and you can see.
Well, that's the crux of the sham. Preventing a safe alternative from the market in order to protect the tax revenue stream of a known harmful product, is the pivot point, IMHO. They have no choice but to approve them. After all,,, people argue about needle exchange programs, and condoms, too. Bottom line, prevention should win the day in an Obama administration.
I guess if it made a difference, I'd pay a reasonable tax, if it got this done.
This is just the usual BS posturing from a New FDA commisioner(It's like the opening statement given by every new US Drug Czar about how they're now gonna REALLY get tough on the war on drugs). Notice she's been in the position for only 8 weeks. This was not specifically meant to attack e-cigs. It wasn't really meant to address anything in particular. Again, the usual posturing from a newbie bureaucrat.
I agree with others that have said that given she did not specifically mention e-cigarettes when the chance was certainly there, I would not get too worried just yet. Certainly something to keep an eye on, but I would not consider this a shot across OUR bow just yet.

FDA released the results of laboratory tests on July 22, 2009.
She's in it up to her eyeballs!!! May comes before July.
"Ultimately, the FDA's success should be measured not by the number of warning letters or injunctions or seizures but by our impact on the health and welfare of the public."
I hope to see more good toward ecigs on the national news soon...I would love to see some bashing towards the FDA. I just want to see more people use these ecigs rather than analogs....

No doubt about it. Also, that type of smear campaign FDA did with the report, summary of the report with talking points highlighting "antifreeze" as a hook, and actually organizing press conference just to ensure all that gets media attention is not the type of agenda that could be carried out without a mandate from the highest level of FDA.
