I was just reading a good article here THE CASE FOR OR AGAINST E-CIGARETTES: WHAT THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH SAYS | Feature Stories | Cancer Prevention National Newsletter and Web Site posted on another thread but this particular paragraph got me thinking...
imagine a perfect world where there are no money influences, corruption or hidden agendas, this sounds like a legitimate cause of concern, we as the world are finally getting ourselves out of the tobacco pit hole that has caused a lot of deaths by stigmatizing its use, we finally made it "uncool" but now there is a new thing that is "safer" but in their head would make the use of tobacco a cool thing to do again and... well you get the idea
don't get me wrong I love vaping and it has changed my life but I do see their point here
Perhaps most troubling to public health officials is that e-cigarettes will "renormalize" smoking, subverting the cultural shift that has occurred over the past 50 years, transforming what has become a perverse habit into a pervasive social behavior. In other words, the fear is that e-cigarettes will allow for reentry of the tobacco cigarette into public view. This would unravel the gains created by smoke-free indoor and, in some scientifically-unwarranted instances, outdoor environments.
