I would think we contribute the same as any other average citizen or business. I believe we are a true cross section of society. Remember, your vote is just as powerful as any other citizens and that's why grassroots letter writing campaigns can be effective. Gets them thinking about rule #1.

But Isn't this the Big Black Fly in the Frosting?

We as Vaper's have such a Small Voting Block. Smokers Outnumber us by about 10 to 1. And Non-Smokers Outnumber Smokers by about 5 to 1.

So we are Really Outnumbered when it comes to a Vote per Vote Basis.

It's more about tax revenue loss than anything else for the government. For ANTZ types it's about the rejuvenation of the nicotine habit just as the campaign against cigarettes had begun to erode the tobacco sales market.

There are lots of things they could attack. Nicotine alternatives and tobacco cigarettes aren't the only things that kill us slowly.

Add to that the candy aisles in stores and the caffeine we ingest, along with the pesticides that are sprayed on crops. We sometimes see the FDA going after those things, but not in the manner we see with ecigs. It's about the revenue to government and the vapor we exhale looking like smoke.

What you're saying is true however 99.99% of smokers and non smokers don't care enough about the subject to contact their representatives. Although we are a small voting block, we can still have a huge impact. Seen it here in Va with some hunting regs. What it came down to is most folks didn't give a rats behind and those of us that did kept up the letter writing and phone calls. We were at the hearings and voiced our opinions. We ended up beating huge insurance companies and a number of national ....um.....so called animal welfare organizations.

Fact - Smoking Tobacco leads to Cancers
Fact - Cancers Kill
Fact - Government Demonized Smoking
Fact - Government makes Millions annually off Tobacco Sales
Fact - Government has no intention of making Tobacco <spelled CASH COW> Illegal
Fact - Government can only PROFIT from Vaping by DEMONIZING IT

Everything else is simply a means to get their way.

I read the entire article and it is truthful for the most part, with the exception that the sample size of their surveys are probably small and I'd bet that they didn't solicit the members of ECF to take surveys. Yes, there are many new members here who are having problems quitting cigarettes. There are huge numbers who report reducing cigarette consumption significantly the first week or two they vape.

I think that one of the problems with people who have trouble quitting is simply because they expect to do the cold turkey substitution of ecigs for cigarettes and succeed that way. It really doesn't happen like that. Sure, the first week or two you find that you are hardly smoking at all. But, you still have that craving here and there for tobacco in a paper tube whether you are slowly quitting or going with sudden abstinence.

Most of the people (like me) who have quit completely and not gone back have done that by letting the ecig eventually take away the tobacco gradually. There's still that nagging reminder of tobacco in the mind if you try to suddenly quit. It was better for me to reach the point where I realized that I didn't need cigarettes anymore. At that point I was able to quit buying packs and vape instead. I was free of the addiction at that point.

The studies that the article pointed out showed low tobacco cessation rates for people who vaped. That's not the reality I experienced at all.

imagine a perfect world where there are no money influences, corruption or hidden agendas, this sounds like a legitimate cause of concern, we as the world are finally getting ourselves out of the tobacco pit hole that has caused a lot of deaths by stigmatizing its use, we finally made it "uncool" but now there is a new thing that is "safer" but in their head would make the use of tobacco a cool thing to do again and... well you get the idea

don't get me wrong I love vaping and it has changed my life but I do see their point here

Except that it's BS. While I agree that it's likely more kids are going to vape than those who smoked and will 'normalize' vaping as an activity, I can't see it leading to smoking any more than Colorado's Finest is a gateway drug to anything else.

BTW, the local B&M is generally chock full of 18-25 year olds who most admit never smoked. Not one of them that I have spoken to has nicotine in their e-juice either. Like cigarettes, they like the feeling of 'smoking' and the social aspect that goes along with it.

That's how I started smoking, except with cigarettes. Problem is, cigarettes are physically addictive.
