The FDA sent out this e-mail today (but I cannot find it on the FDA's website).

This Week in CTP - Updates from the Center for tobacco Products

The NIH-FDA tobacco Regulatory Science Program (TRSP) will host a webinar this Friday, June 20, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. EDT to discuss the process for submitting comments on proposed FDA regulations to the public docket.
Presenter:
Allison Hoffman, Ph.D.
Associate Director for Science Coordination and Communication
Office of Science
FDA Center for tobacco Products

FDA recently published the proposed rule Deeming Tobacco Products To Be Subject to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as Amended by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act; Regulations on the Sale and Distribution of Tobacco Products and Required Warning Statements for Tobacco Products. Tobacco regulatory scientists know that their input is important, but many are unfamiliar with the process of submitting comments to the docket.
This webinar will:
• Explain what dockets are and how they are used
• Walk you through the process of submitting comments to a docket
• Provide suggestions for ensuring that your comments are effective and useful
• Provide an opportunity for you to ask questions about the submission process
Instructions on how to join the webinar:

I listened to the FDA's webinar via telephone for about 15 minutes, and then hung up the phone because the person from FDA answered nearly every question/comment by saying she couldn't discuss anything about the agency's proposed deeming regs.

The purpose of FDA's webinar was to encourage their ANTZ allies to submit comments in support of the deeming regs (and perhaps to assuage the CTP's new Ombudsman, who has probably received lots of complaints about the FDA's actions). The several questions/comments I heard were asked/stated by cheerleader ANTZ urging folks to submit comments. I never figured out how to ask a question via the telephone (or how the FDA screened the callers who wanted to ask a question), as I missed the first 20 minutes of the webinar trying to figure out how to access it). I submitted several questions on the FDA's webinar website, but never heard the FDA respond to any of them. There were 95 people listening in to the webinar.

Several hours after the webinar ended (at 5PM on Friday), the FDA announced that it was extending the public comment period until August 8.
