Lots of great recommendations already, so I'm mostly here to reinforce the "Don't give up!" theme. :thumb:

I really like all the sweet flavors but you can only take so much of that b4 it starts to give you a nauseated feeling.
The first two weeks I was vaping, I felt the exact same way about sweet juices: I liked some of them, but it was just too much. I needed some less sweet flavors. That's OK, and there are lots of them available. But I would also add this: After the first couple of weeks, my tastes changed a lot. I mean A LOT. Suddenly the fruit flavors were not overpoweringly sweet, they were just delightful.

So, by all means, look for some not-so-sweet flavors you enjoy. But keep in mind that your tastes are still changing. You don't yet know what you might like two or three weeks from now. :)

I started this adventure with the blu e-cigs and the flavors in those were awesome so that held me for a few days but the nicotene cravings weren't being satisfied so I knew I had to go with something a little stronger or I'd definitely give up.
If you like that flavor, get a sample pack from Johnson Creek. You said you tried their Domestic but want more throat hit. Try some small bottles of their other flavors.

Some folks who're keen for throat hit have recommended hot cinnamon and strong menthol flavors. These don't work well in plastic tanks, unfortunately, but if you think you might want to go in that direction, Kanger Mini Protanks or other glass tanks are available.

Hello all.... I'm posting this thread hopefully to get some help b4 I completely give up on this whole vaping thing. I quit smoking Nov 21st and started vaping and I'm feeling really discouraged right now and almost ready to give up. I'm hoping for some help/encouragement b4 I do that. I REALLY wanna be successful this time with giving up the nasty smokes but I gotta tell ya..... I miss that tobacco flavor and am soooooo tired of throwing money away for bottles and bottles of e-juices that just end up in the garbage bcuz they taste hideous! I really like all the sweet flavors but you can only take so much of that b4 it starts to give you a nauseated feeling. I started this adventure with the blu e-cigs and the flavors in those were awesome so that held me for a few days but the nicotene cravings weren't being satisfied so I knew I had to go with something a little stronger or I'd definitely give up. I picked up a cheap eGo-T E-cigarette at a local tobacco shop along with some e-juice and with no idea what I was doing, began to vape with that. Within several days I started reading everything I could possibly find on this topic to see what I was doing wrong. My juice was tasting burnt and I didn't know why.... it was leaking all over the place... i think i wore more than i vaped ....and I was way overwhelmed with it all!! Well I've since learned about atomizers, cartomizers, clearomizers, tanks, blah blah, blah but I still have dang leaking issues and can't figure out why and I just never seem satisfied and feel like I vape constantly! Seriously....it's like a dam pacifier :blush:....lol. ok well I'm done ranting... any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to all in advance!!:)

WOW Jackie I was the opposite of you, I started with Blue cigs and trew them in the garbage, Then I got my first ego and started making my own juices and I love it. I smoked for 29 years and just quit like that, It is not easy I had the cravings just like you, but if you hang in there you will make it like I did.

Right now my juice is 10mg I started with 18mg and been working down slowly, by March I hope to be at 0 nic and I will keep vaping till I see it no longer suits me.

Hang in there and take it from me I always said I "CANT DO IT" and guess what I stopped smoking 39 days ago and haven't touch a cig since. Good luck and don't even look at them stinkers again.

My advice to everyone new is to read a lot and watch some youtube videos and make decisions on the hardware you buy, I don't own a provari or any expensive mod, I started with a twister and then got a vamo v3 wich I really like and Now I will be making my own dna20 mod. Buy 1 tank and try it if you like it then buy more, for me I use boge tanks and boge cartos and they worked for me, but everyone is diferent, but here this is my current hardware. I also make my own juices and I experiment a lot mixing Juices to my taste or what I call perfect for me.

TXCherry.....thanks so much for stopping in to leave some encouragement for me especially right now when ur fighting ur own demon so to speak. This site seems to have a group of people who really care about helping each other out. I'm genuinely touched at the response to my post! I have taken every single word and tried to apply it if I can and I'm happy to say I'm still hanging in there. I've ordered some new juice flavors but unfortunately, due to Veterans Day ( thank you to all of you who have fought for our country and my freedom!).... it's taking forever to get here! I'm going to beat that cigarette this time..... I've never been more determined!!

Nov 21 hasn't past yet. I assume you meant Oct 21st according to your timeline..

Don't give up. I didn't see anyhwere in here about what mg Nic you were using. You may need to up that a little bit....ECF is a great place to come for support.

I have found that this place is like a family of some sort. There is always bickering, disagreements and stuff like that, but when it comes down to it, everyone here will drop whatever drama is at hand to help a fellow human being in need of getting away from cigarettes. I am not or ever have been a cigarette smoker. But these damn things have affected my life. I lost a very dear friend because he could not kick the habit. He quit for a while, but it drew him back in..... Had vaping been mainstream and something I had known about several years ago, he would more than likely still be with us.

Yes... I mistakenly posted Nov 21st but it was actually October21st.. I Really appreciate all of the help and the words of encouragement from everyone. This is really a family. Everyone seems to genuinely want to help others in the quit smokingquest. Thanks so much!!!!

Hi JackieNC!

The biggest single piece of advice I can offer is -- DO NOT count your failures in the number of cigarettes you smoke, count your successes in the number you DON'T smoke! This is a critical mindset when just starting. I have been fighting with it since February when I got my first cheap cig-a-like kit, and so far, the best I have been able to do is go 3 weeks without a "real" cigarette, but I have NOT given up! I seem to average about 5 days before I break down and bum a smoke or 2 from someone.

If you are like most people, you will vape a LOT more in the beginning, until you get used to it and then it will settle down. Until you get past this point, be cautions on what nicotine strength you vape. How much it settles is dependent upon you and your vaping habits. I would NOT recommend vaping anything higher than 1.8 (or 18)mg if you smoked less than a pack or so a day. If you were more than a pack a day, then try the 2.4 (24)mg juices and see how they work for you. Less than a pack a day and I would start at the 1.2 (12)mg levels. If you pick a strength that is too strong, you will have signs and symptoms that will help you figure that out, in my case, I got "jittery" and even light headed sometimes, when I was vaping a juice that had more than 18mg nicotine.

As for cost, in the beginning, while you are figuring out what works for you, costs can (and likely will) be very high. I can honestly say that I spent a lot more money in the first few months than my smoking habit cost. However, once I found what worked best for me, my costs dropped tremendously, and overall, I have actually saved money. Like most vapers, I started cheap and kept spending to find the right device that would work for me, ultimately this cost me more money than just buying a good device up front. That said, I do have some tips that may help with lowering your costs:

1. When you order juice, ask if they can send you a sample or two of flavors that you may want to try. Many vendors will throw in a small amount of a juice for you to sample, hoping you will order more from them.

2. Look for discounts and coupon codes. These are invaluable for saving money. I have seen coupons go as high as 75% off of juice purchases, these are few and far between, but they are out there.

3. Call the vendor and ask if they offer any kind of discount. Some will have unpublished discounts and others will not.

4. If you find a juice flavor you like, buy it in bulk. It may seem more expensive to do this, but in the long run it will work out to be cheaper than buying smaller quantities. Don't do this for juices that you aren't sure you like, because then it becomes expensive to throw them away (ask me how I know ... LOL)!

5. Enter contests and give-aways. Between the forums and FaceBook, there are a TON of things being given away that you could potentially get for free to try. I was looking at a particular kit, and luckily won it in a giveaway, but if I had purchased it I would have been very upset because I was not happy with it.

6. Buy used stuff (batteries, mods, chargers should all be fine). NOT clearos/cartos/tanks that you can't sanitize. For example, if you buy a Protank 2 used, you can sterilize the entire thing (its all either stainless steel or pyrex glass). I would not recommend using someone else's used drip tip though, UNLESS it can be sterilized.

7. Read reviews and see what kind of issues people are having with their gear. If you are interested in something, look and see if there are any negative reviews. Check and see what kind of problems people are having with it before spending your hard earned money on it.

8. Get together with vaping friends to make "bulk" purchases. If you and a couple friends all want to try the same things, it can be cheaper for you to all pitch in on a large order of something (either juices or hardware) than for you to each buy the exact same thing individually.

9. Sell your stuff that isn't working. If you can find a buyer, you can recoup some (if not all) of the costs.

With regards to finding good flavors, this gets really tricky, do a LOT of reading and see what sounds good to you. I can personally recommend Spinfuel for their reviews, they have not steered me wrong yet. This also goes for their hardware and vendor reviews too. If you find something you want to try, and the company (or product) has no reviews, ask in the forums what people think. It may not be a foolproof solution, but it can't hurt and may actually help.

As for the cravings, I had the hardest time with this, and discovered that whole tobacco alkaloids (or WTAs as they are commonly called) helped me. They do NOT work for everyone. This is not the "normal" vaping experience, and there are very few places that even sell them, but they can help with the cravings under some circumstances. WTAs tend to be more expensive because they are harder to make, so keep that in mind as well.

The bottom line is that vaping is a personal experience. What works for someone else may not work for you. What is important is to remember this and keep at it. Don't give up when something doesn't work for you, try something else. Eventually, you will find what works best, and things will get better from there.

This has turned out to be a lot longer than I intended, so I will end here. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I can help answer.

I hope this helps!

Hi Jackie. Good to see you here and welcome to ECF. This is all very confusing in the beginning. Most of what is sold at local gas stations and tobacco shops is cheap China knockoffs that are marked way up to make money. There is a Suppliers Forum here and there are links to all kinds of online stores.

I started with 2 Vision Spinners 1300mah and a couple of Evods with 2.4 ohm heads. I also got a Joye 510 atomizer that I drip juice into and find I love that the most. I now have an MVP2 and love that device. You will find what works for you. And do not beat yourself up if you have a couple of cigarettes here and there. It is very common. Not everyone can or does make the switch overnight or in a week or two. For many it takes much longer.

Check Pbsardo and Grimmgreen Youtube sites. You will learn a LOT there. That is where I go to see the equipment in action to see if it is something that may work for me.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...discussion/304212-top-5-vendors-e-liquid.html

Here they do a lot of talking about tobaccos and flavors and vendors. Good to think about what you like and don't like and what to look for.

Here are a couple of threads where you can trade your juices with others here on ECF.

There is a lot to learn. I have been doing this for 4 months and I am still a baby at it and I spend a lot of time on ECF. This takes time. And learning and some patience and a desire to not smoke that stupid cigarette! You will be fine.

Hi Jackie,
I was lucky in that my wife was the one who went through all of what you described. She did some research and actually picked a decent vendor and they had great flavors, but we ran into customer service issues and proprietary connections and such, so we moved on. It was expensive when she started though, she bought the smaller 510 batteries and prefilled cartos, then bought cartos we could fill, then moved on to an ego device and tanks, which she despised, so she got some clearos and can't sing enough praises.
I started with her m-pack and as I go more into it I moved onto egos as well, and swear by my 2 Kanger Pro Tanks, though I use my T3s when I get tired of a particular flavor and take a break. If you're tired of fruity, I love Mt Baker's Cucumber Mint for a nice palette cleanser and it makes for a good summer vape.
I hope you find your way through this and are able to find a community near you to help with your vaping woes.

Nic Juice (Choose 24 or 36 - I recommend 65PG 35VG 2 extra flavor shots, spent $15.00 and get a free 15ml sample, just request what you'd like in the comments box when placing order): http://www.mtbakervapor.com/nicotine-juice/hawk-sauce-e-juice-baker-vapor/

Tank: http://www.smoke-evolution.com/Aspire-BDC-Nova-S-p/se-bdc-vns.htm

I am not recommending the Protank 2 because a lot of people complain that they are a bit too fiddly. The Aspire BDC's have had really good reviews, so while I haven't tried one personally, it might be a good fit for you.

Finally: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/285341-mtbakervapor-2341.html

Check the thread out to see if any other flavors might appeal to you. IMO, Stay away from the Tobacco's, other places seem to have better tobaccos.

For tobacco's try: http://www.ahlusion.us/

I have read that they have some really good tobacco liquids.

Also understand that e-liquids often require aging time depending on where you purchase them from. Sometimes up to 3-4 weeks in some cases before they come into their own. Think of them a bit like cigars or wine in that they will need time to sit.

Also, I like Phil Busardo for reviews. He's entertaining and is pretty thorough: http://www.youtube.com/user/pbusardo?feature=watch

When purchasing e-liquid make sure you do your research first. ECF is invaluable for that. I have found that usually my taste buds are in-line with whatever pleases "most" people. I got burned in the beginning and spent a lot on liquid that was no bueno. Now I research, research, research, and then buy instead of just picking what sounds good. I have a lot more liquid that I like now.

That said I can't make liquid recommendations because I "LIKE" the sweet stuff as long as it is not overwhelming. So someone else will need to step in and make recommendations for non-sweet e-liquids.

Next, slow down your vapes. It sounds like you are hitting too hard too fast. There is a bit of an art to it. You can't power it down like you can a cigarette. You have to slow it down some. If everything gets too hot it can cause leaks, battery failure, you name it. So go for a higher nic content and slower vapes.

Don't waste a lot of money on cheaper stuff because you will find yourself quickly wanting to upgrade your hardware. Watch a lot of youtube videos and do a lot of reading here at ECF while you are waiting for your packages to come. :D

If you go the route I've listed, this should give you a bit of a breather. The MVP 2.0 is easy to use so you won't have a lot of fiddling to do, though you will need to learn about Ohms Resistance, Variable Voltage, and Variable Wattage. This has a high learning curve compared to patches or gum but it is most likely to work for you.

HI Jackie!

Something that no one has mentioned is that those juices you do not like may need to steep. So do not throw them away just set them aside and try them again in a month or so.
Someone also did mention that your taste buds will change so for the same reason set the juices aside rather than throwing away. Worse case you never like them and you PIF (Pay it Forward) to someone else you may like them... or trade.

One of the things to also remember is that while giving up smoking, it's not a direct 1 for 1 tradeoff for vaping.
Your body is still craving all the 4000 other chemicals that it's used to getting by that hand to mouth motion. You're only supplying the nicotine (no ash or tar or arsenic or formaldehyde, etc).

Your body will have to get past that craving too. For me it took a few weeks before I got a bit more "normalized" and could just enjoy the vape instead of constantly trying to "feed the craving".

Just keep at it. It WILL. Get easier.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I hope things are a little better for you with all the info you have gotten here. I smoked 2-1/2 packs a day for 30 years, I tried everything to stop then one day my son came in and tossed an e-cig at me, and asked me to try again. Like you it took me a while to find something to vape, that i could use throughout the day and not give me that sickeningly sweet feeling. I must have spent hundreds in juices, that ended up being thrown away or given away.I guess i have a distinct taste, because juices that people would recommend to me that they thought were great i couldn't stand, and it got to the point where i thought maybe vaping just is not for me. I kept at it tho because i really wanted to stop smoking I had tried all those small e-cigs that looked like a cig and got to thinking why am i trying so hard to make myself feel like i am smoking a cig when this is what i am trying to get away from. That was when i went and got a mod. I got a Lambo Veri volt and i found a place that actually sold bottles of juice that had come in a kit, where you replace the mouthpiece that has the filler in it with the juice, I loved the juice but the kit stunk. the juice use to be called Rexboro but now it is called KP Rex and you can get it in very high nic levels most places go up to 18 or even 24 you can get this all the way up to 36 mg I also use to use the carto's and i found using a dual coil gave me that extra amount of warm vape to satisfy that throat hit i was missing from the cigs I ended up getting the I clear 30 dual coil tank from Innokin you might want to try out the dual coil it should give you that throat hit you are missing. You can find the tank i mentioned at a lot of online vendors the KP rex i have only found here at Blackhatcigs.com it is something you may want to try where we seem to share the issues in juice tatse but the best advice i can give you is DO NOT GIVE UP it really does get easier each day that passes. Now that I have found a juice and a mod i like i am only spending roughly $35 a month if i have to get a new coil for my tank it's a little more but compared to what i spent on cancer sticks i am saving a fortune. Good luck to you and keep fighting the good fight you WILL succeed !

Hi,

Firstly, stick with it. Don't give up, if everything was easy there would be no point.
Seriously though, There's loads of great advice already here. I was going to add a link to something that helped me when my dial a volt arrived but someone beat me to it. Here it is anyway

I found this site helpful for finding juice that tastes good Smokerainbow. They seem to have most stuff and in 1ml sample packs. I got myself a Kanger protank mini 2 v2 and a few 2.5ohm coils so I could soak them inbetween flavours. Vodka works best, just rinse it off with warm water after a good overnight soak. I got the kanger as it all comes apart for easy and effective cleaning. Just be carefull not to lose the o-rings when you unscrew the glass.

I also found this site good but only for making flavours no-one seems to make Vapology, they have a good tobacco range.

I noticed another member suggested the Ruyan collection. They are very close to analogs.

One thing I have found is that carto's and smileomizers seem to add an extra something that makes it a little more analog like. Might just be in my head.

As for the leaking. I had that problem. Most of my juice either ended up in my mouth or in my hand/battery. I stopped using a tank and stuck with protank until I worked out how to use a tank. My main problem seemed to be that I clogged the filler by sucking to hard and flooding it, or I over filled the filler.
Now with a dry (unused) tank I ;-
1. Assuming tank is not attached to battery remove drip tip and push, pull or a mix of both the cart down a little out of the tank so it is a couple of mm past the top seal.
2. carefully fill the tank as full as you can get it using a syringe and blunt needle, about 3/4 to 7/8 full trying not to get any juice into the white filling.
3. push the cart back up into the top seal and cover the bottom with your finger and replace drip tip.
4. take a dry hit (suck) on the drip tip with finger covering air hole. If you could see you would notice the fluid level lowers as you suck. Do this a few times, depends on how hard you suck. Just be careful not to flood the filler.
5. Top up your juice using steps 1 to 3.
6. make sure your threads are clean of juice and I'd advise you to leave the tank sit for 5 mins on some kitchen roll then recheck the threads.
7. attach your battery (the tank will turn around the cart, I sort of hold the drip tip with 1 finger as I turn the battery).
8. Vape.

Don't suck to hard and periodically check the base of your drip tip. I find mine collects juice. I try to use either a long tip or one with a small hole to minimize juice in mouth.

Sorry this post is soooo long. I get a bit carried away some times but now I've typed it all I feel bad not to share.

The best advice anyone can give is to keep trying.

Jackie,
I also started with Blu (Absolute Tobacco) due to availabilty. I went into a convenience store to buy a pack of cigs, saw the Blu display and thought I would give it a try. Haven't gone back to analogs, been over a month. I quickly graduated to a ecig with a clearomizer, now an eRoll also. Since I liked the Blu flavor, first juices I ordered were from JC. I like the Domestic and Tennessee Cured, Silverthorne is okay. Next, I got the Halo tobacco sampler base on comments on the forum. Very disappointing. Everything has a perfume tasting undertone. I am trashing them. I am awaiting a sampler pack from Heather Heavenly Vapes. They are NET (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) type. Hoping for something I like. Meanwhile, ordered more JC.

Yep, I was frustrated like that for about the first six months I vaped. Blu's, JC Vea, carto tanks, everything. The key to me is not to say "Ok I quit cigarettes." because to me it's just a dare and my addiction laughs at that. I allowed myself to smoke whenever I wanted until I got a reliable enough of a system in place that I didn't need them any more. Took about 9 months of learning, talking to other vapers, trying juices, etc. but I"m finally off cigarettes for a little over 2 months now. I'm sure everyone has their own system that works for them. This is just what I ended up with for hassle-free vaping:

Protanks 1.8ohm heads
50/50 blend juices (the only blend that is no hassle for me in Protanks)
A couple good non-sweet tobacco flavors I like to satisfy tobacco cravings (I use Heather's Heavenly Vapes 'Dragon's Fire' and 'Legend')
A decent VW/VV Mod (My favorites: iTaste 134, Provari, Tesla) that take a 18650 battery (get about 10 hours out of 1)
Several good batteries (I use AW 18650 - have about 4 of them) and a good charger

I never have leaking with my tanks, and rarely get a burnt taste unless I have the voltage/wattage too high. Honestly, the only problem I have now is deciding what juices to do. I've also found, for me, that just having 4-5 juices that I love is better than having a cabinet full of juices I don't. I keep it simple and stick with just a few.
