So I started with a Joye 510 maybe 2 or 3 months ago. The first day I really questioned how effective it would be. The vapor seemed a lot different then smoke, but had a better taste to it but it was still just "different". During the first day I tried to use it as much as possible, switching flavors to find one that I liked it.

On the second day I felt that I had spent around $100 for the c-cig, charing carrying pack, and various juices- I should definitely at least give it a try. I own a small business and I am out on the road from 9am to around 7pm. I left my analog cigarettes at home and brought the 510. I used it, liked it, and didn't crave a cigarette once that day.

This continued for a few weeks. I noticed that when I was in a public setting (at a bar, out with friends, or even driving in the car while sitting in traffic) I would feel uncomfortable about vaping. All of my friends were at first like "WTF IS THAT?", but liked the idea of a less harmful, and better tasting smoke. All of my non-smoking friends really liked it and said "Man you don't have to go outside to smoke anymore, it's great". A few of them even tried it. They were taking back by the strength of the hit I would imagine- or maybe just not being used to nicotine.

While out for drinks or dinner, when my smoking friends would want to go outside to smoke a cigarette (can't smoke inside any public place in NJ), I would usually bum one of their smokes. I didn't like this, never liked people bumming from me, and I particularly didn't like the taste of the cigarette after getting accustomed to delicious flavors. The few times that I did try to vape in public in this type of setting- I would hear whispers from groups of people like "WTF??". I would sometimes get the occasional person who knew what it was, or had a friend or acquaintance used a PV. When I was driving in the car, I felt like a cop or someone was going to see me pulling "smoke" out of a "pipe", and I just didn't want to go thru the hassle. I would vape in the car but I would kind of do it low-key and certainly not if I knew a cop was around. I even had a certain way of holding the 510. Using my thumb or index finger to hit the button, and to hold the e-cig. My other 3 fingers would lay in front of the cigarette, to cover the LED (damn LED gives it all away).

Now heres my downfall:
I had an atomizer fail on me one day while I was working. It was my fault, I should have had a spare. I am sometimes prepared for this, but one I got home I saw that I only had one atomizer remaining. When I connected it to the battery, I then realized it was DOA. At the time I really wanted to try cartomizers and I knew that vaporkings had the exact ones I wanted. They were actually out of stock at the time and rather then get a different one on accident, or get one that I wasn't too happy with- I waited about 2 weeks to place my order. During this time I went back to smoking analogue cigarettes. I wasn't smoking nearly as frequently, but I was still smoking.

Since then I have received my order from VK and even though I was impressed by the cartomizers and ease of refilling, I still continue to smoke cigarettes. I pick up my 510 a few times a day but can't seem to put down analogues. I am actually smoking just as frequently as I was before I got my 510 (a few short of a pack a day).

I feel like a bum :( I was very happy with the 510 and even more happy with how I felt after a week of not smoking. One thing that I can say is that I have ran out of my favorite juices. I still have the "so so" juices that I enjoyed, but not the REALLY GOOD ones. I guess its a possibility that I'd rather smoke then vape the current juices that I have, but I'm not really sure what to do from here.

Get more of the juices you do like, and maybe some with a bit more kick (nic). You may have cartos that are higher resistance than the atomizers, which means less current, less heating, less hit.

I use an 808 passthrough in my car all the time -- I know it's OK, totally legal, not self conscious about it, anyone looking in my window would normally see me holding something with a wire going down to the cig lighter adapter :)

It's tough, don't be too hard on yourself or give up. Right after I got my first kit, I had to make a 6hr round trip drive for work. I ended up buying a pack of cigarettes on the way home because the PV just wasn't doing it for me at that point. I drive around a lot for work as well and had become accustomed to smoking all day while driving. The first couple of weeks are the worst. I wanted to pick up a cigarette all the time for the first two weeks, and occasionally I did. After a while it got easier, remember that you aren't just getting nicotine with your cigarette. You are getting 4000 plus chemicals that it will take your body some time to adjust to not getting them. I also use cartomizers during the day while I am out and about. I keep 3 filled with different flavors that I like, when one isn't doing it for me I switch. I also keep one filled with a higher mg juice that helps fight the cravings more. Remember, don't think about how many cigarettes you have smoked. Think about how many you haven't smoked. A lot of people can quit them right away and a lot take quite some time to fully quit. Sometimes you just need to vent your frustrations. That's what we are here for! Good luck and don't give up!

You're still trying aren't you? Then you haven't failed. We all have our high and low points when trying to quit smoking. I realized that I started smoking a lot more after I had problems with vaping equipment. Don't forget that we also need to find trust in anything new we are doing. For most, we never had to worry about the reliability of our cigarettes. We just lit them up and they gave us exactly the same thing day after day, year after year.

Markfm is right. Cartos don't give the same kick as an atomizer. They are very convenient, though, for public places and driving around. Good luck.

Don't get down on yourself. Regardless of vaping, you are still trying to quit smoking and that is very very hard for anyone. Someone else mentioned trust of equipment. That's a great way to put it. Until I felt I had something reliable and convenient (KR808 for me) I didn't put any faith in vaping. Also, learning to accept that there are some limitations inherently built into vaping is part of the process.

Batteries will need charging. (I would always have at least 4-5 charged KR8 batteries with me, now I carry 2 larger Elegant batts and 1 regular KR8.)

Juice will run out. (I always have a spare bottle close by)

Attys will die (I use the cartomizers and always have 4-5 with me. A few I'm using and maybe a couple new prefilled ones)

Supplies are not readily available (most stuff has to be ordered off the internet, so most vapers stock up.)

The trade off between being smoke free and dealing with some extra hassle is good enough for most. Even if you only use vaping to reduce your amount of smoking that is a good thing. A half pack a day is better than 2 packs a day. Then 5 cigs is better than a half pack a day. etc, etc.

The cliche comes to mind but is true. Don't quit quitting. Good luck. You can do it.

+1 on don't be so hard on yourself. Restock your juices and hardware and give it another go. I found that higher nic has me reaching for the PV instead of an analog more often than not. Maybe that can help some. Also, there's no law that says you have to quit analogs cold when you own a PV. Go buy a pack and get over it. I'm so proud I have to pinch myself for only buying 3 packs of analogs on sale for $10 and going for 2 weeks instead of the usual $40-45 a carton every 10-11 days.

And don't worry what other people think. I hit my PV just like I smoke whether it's among a bunch of smokers or sitting next to a cop at a light. When those other people start paying my bills, then I'll worry about their approval. If the cop wants to check it out, I guess I'll have to pull over for show and tell.

Hey, this isn't a race against yourself, is it? Why not just saunter on through the process and figure it out as you go?

I had one of those "WTF is she doing?!" moments at a college ball game this weekend - we headed out during halftime to get a little extra tailgating in during the half, and I was hitting my ego hard after stealth-vaping through the 1st half (the woman in front me us kept saying "I smell cinnabon? Do you smell that?...), and saw a woman giving the afore-mentioned WTF? face. I just kept walking and said "e-cigarette - safer than smoking" and she was like "damn, I just wanted a hit!" It took me back for a minute, but was also kind of funny.

Hang in there - you haven't failed at anything, you're just getting your learning curve down, that's all. You've learned not to run out of spare parts, not to run out of great juice, and learning that you need to find a way to effortlessly explain what you're toking on, exactly, when it comes up.

Also, I think you're learning that you kind of prefer vaping, but find it socially awkward. Maybe it's time to just put a stash of biz cards in your pocket when you're out?

i know what you mean, especially if you're in cherry hill. i had a cop approach me at the home depot there while i was putting tools into a new toolbag in the parking lot before work and was accusing me of looking suspicious.

Fla Tampa area,
I started vaping about 6 weeks ago and am still smoking too! I'm smoking less but too feel bad I haven't been able to quit those nasty analogs and on top of that I showed everyone at work and they thought it was awesome now when they see me with an analog or smell me after I just smoked they look at me in disgust. Or my wife who quit analogs 2 months ago giving me a hard time about all the equipment I bought. But I'll continue to vape and smoke and eventually I hope to find the right combo of juice, PV and new wife!

Noonan,
All of the above posts are great about additional supplies and juices and I am sure you will get a stock of supplies. It is now 8 weeks without an analog and loving it. Funny thing is I have had the exact opposite from other smokers when I am vaping with them. With my Riva, I am getting more vapor than their analogs which starts the coversation about the e-cig. I work in construction and get some strange looks when I use the Riva, but once I explain, everyone is very interested. A lot of smokers have heard about e-cigs, but did not know where to but them or how they work. I send them all to this site to get educated.

Remember, your decision is ALL abou you! It took all of us a while to start smoking and wll take time to stop. I did it fo 20 years and could not be more proud to have stopped. Keep your head up and keep vaping! Good luck.

I hate to see people who have been successful at not smoking cigarettes for any length of time beat themselves up when they do smoke.

As of today, I have not smoked roughly 540 cigarettes since I started vaping. If I ran out a bought a pack of cigs right now, I still wouldn't have smoked those 540 cigarettes.

Try to focus on the victories and let the losses go.
