Feeling quite pleased with myself - made my first coil which came out at 1.5 ohms this afternoon, wicked my squonker up, loaded it with juice, fired it up...and it worked! OK it'll never produce massive clouds - think I'll go for a wee bit lower resistance the next time and maybe wick looser - but no too bad for a first effort I think!

If anyone with any wicking tips for a single coil on an Origen 16 would like to share I'd be only too grateful...I'm still at the simple stage here!

I dont have any personal experience with the origen 16, but I would definitely go with a spaced coil and failry loose wicking. Looking at the 2 post design you're working with, I'd imagine that a slightly tilted spaced coil with wicking just thick enough to cause a slight amount of resistance while installing would work well.

There's a lot to learn when you are new to this Squonking Game!

I watched quite a few U Tube Tutorials last night and today and have just rewicked the coil I made yesterday and with a looser wick. The difference is truly night to day. Vapour production has gone up and wow the flavour of this Halcyon Days Northern Lights is A1 compared to when vaped in a tank.

I also picked up a most useful tip from one of the forums, namely that I should ensure that the airholes on my attie should be as near as possible to the coil - this has got me a cooler vape which I love.

A quick question - do coils "bed in" and improve with a little use? Even before I rewicked my attie I'd noticed more vapour and flavour coming through.

If anyone has any more tips for beginners I'd love to hear them btw.

Ive been on a vertical coil kick lately and have found them to be fantastic options for branching out. Titanium wire is another great idea if your squonker can do temp control.

I've been reading up on different wire types too - my squonker is a TMods Custom - fully mech and unregulated BTW - so I'm super cautious about the ohms I'm aiming for.

I was a kid in the 1950s when one of my parents favourite sayings was "Waste not; want not!" This came into my mind when making a coil yesterday and today - casting around for something suitable to use as a mandrel, I remembered my once trusty Czech Pipe tool with its spike; I dug it out from the bottom of a drawer, used it and found it perfect - seven wraps of 28g Kanthal A1 gave me 1.2 ohms; pulling the wire tight with pliers resulted in no hot spots when I pulsed it to test. Genuinely if I'd have known at the outset that it was this easy to RYO I'd never have done anything else.

Sounds like you're now a Squonker. It is certainly the best of two worlds, no need to drip with the flavor of a dripper.

You may want to check out the "Catfish Atty" thread, ol Tom has some great bottom fed atty's available.

Additionally, if you would like a regulated Squonker, the GDNA 40 watt is a great lightweight mod. I have eight of them, each has a different atty and different juice. They fit in a front shirt pocket easily, are very lightweight being 3D printed material. I really only feel the weight of the one 18650 battery, which sure isn't much. DJ sells the GDNA 40 mods, he has thread here too, "Lush Mods and Drip Tips".

Here's the best squonking tip I could give anyone. Get a Velocity atty with the squonking center pin. Most clones come with it but I know some do not. This is the best squonkdrippervape bar none.

Yep...hard to beat a Velocity, unless you can find a NarDa....:)

The rda that I saw recently that I thought would make a great squonk atty is the Symbiote. I contacted eciggity and asked if there is a hollow center pin for it anywhere and they don't have one and don't know. Triple coils with a nice, flat bottom to spread my juice to all 3 coils looks very promising. If I have to buy a drill press just to make squonking rdas, my wife is gonna kick my ..... lol
