First, let me say that I am just past two weeks into quitting cigarettes and vaping exclusively...yay! I'm so thrilled with the amount of energy I have. It was almost instantaneous...I have asthma and I've noticed the only time I get slightly wheezy is with strong perfumes...which I can smell a whole lot better now! I'm a nursing student, and having studied GERD last semester, I know that nicotine can exacerbate reflux/heartburn and have had a bit of that, but can live with it. My only complaint is that my last period seems to have lasted for a week and a half now, and has been heavy. I'm on Nuvaring, which I'm aware may be the problem in and of itself... I would think that nicotine being a vasoconstrictor, that it would be the opposite...but vaping is the only change I have made. I have an appointment in a few weeks with my GYN, who I'm sure will be happy to hear I've quit the analogs. Just curious to see if anyone else had this effect or whether it is just mine :) Would have posted in the health concerns section but I feel a little better with women only. And I'm aware that most of y'all aren't MDs, but just looking to see if anyone else had a similar experience. I've googled "nicotine and menstrual cycle" way too much today ;)

so, um, some of us are just a teensy bit too old to answer that question. But, I'd be very surprised if it was the switch to vaping. You had nicotine from smoking, and I've not heard of that symptom as one usually associated with switching over, or with quitting smoking. Let us know what your gyn says. Glad you're feeling so much better with everything else so quickly. :)

I have four children, and I miscarried twice....I've seen more OBGYNs than I care to mention! I've been seeing the same docs since 1998 and so many have come and gone. Two of my children were delivered by men and two were delivered by my beloved midwife who has since left the practice. I had no qualms about the male docs who delivered my babies...both were daddies multiple times over themselves, and they were compassionate and wonderful. The doc who attempted the manual version on my breech son and the intern who woke me up at 5 am after the subsequent C section I had...to remove my STAPLES....those two I have words for that I cannot use here ;)

I know I shouldn't paint all male docs with the same brush. But the doctor who stood in the hospital hallway with me as I watched my 2 day old son being wheeled away to an ambulance for his trip to a major medical center and said "these things happen" was also the same doc who told me, after that baby died and I'd had two miscarriages, that he couldn't understand why I was crying when I went in for my checkup after the 2nd miscarriage, because he had lots of patient's who cry because they can't conceive, and I got pregnant if my husband looked at me. Being able to conceive wasn't much consolation to me after 3 conceptions and no living child. But it's also not just men. I also had some pretty thoughtless, or clueless, women make some amazing comments as well. But at least none of those women were doctors!

Sorry, I usually don't get into my wonderful childbearing years here. And though it did take 5 pregnancies, we did finally have a healthy child. And all of that was in the 70s, many many many years ago, LOL. I just prefer female GYNs! :p

With that experience, I don't blame you, Catmom! That's awful. I'm so sorry for your losses. My mother experienced something very similar to your story, and I am what she has to show for it. :) My younger sister was a surprise just as my mom had scheduled an appointment to have her tubes tied as she was concerned she was getting older. Surprise!
And I agree, there are some females that sometimes come out with very callous remarks. (I had a friend announce her pregnancy at a joint birthday party for our daughters KNOWING that I had just had a D&C after a rough miscarriage...she didn't even give me a heads up and I left in tears) Now that I'm not planning to have any more kids, I prefer the new midwife at my practice. She considers my opinions and takes me seriously.
