couple of things...

first the whole inversion of the scans thing... that's total crap and has been debunked..
the infamous image that has been floating around the net was taken from a CD of royalty free ..... of a woman that was photo manipulated as an example of the supposed scans

try it for yourself with any of the other TSA full body scan images other than that one...doesn't work

second... there are 2 different types of scanners... one clearer than the other...
they can only see through clothes and nothing under the skin or inside the body...

Security advisor Hans-Detlef Dau (54, Hamburg), who sells the scanner, said: “Unlike with a complete X-ray examination, the rays do not go deeply under the skin. They see only the things which lie over it, so bladed weapons and firearms as well as ceramics.

“Beyond that, they show intimate piercings, catheters and the form of breasts and penises.

“But newer devices can automatically distort intimate areas in the picture.”

What remains hidden?

Dau added: “Things which lie under the skin cannot be seen.

“So for instance implants, cardiac pacemakers, artificial joints, tumours, tampons or coils.

“Scars are at most difficult to recognise, tattoos cannot be at all.”

Pregnancy cannot be recognised either.

The technology does have a couple drawbacks, however: it can't see through plastic or rubber materials that resemble skin....

so if it really bothers you get yourself some rubber underpants.... the latex fetishwear industry I'm sure will be happy to fill your need...

I'm of the opinion scan away....
I'd be more off put by the more agressive pat downs
and incidents like the one where the TSA agents made the woman take out her nipple piercings with pliers while being watched...

Anyone who is touched in an inappropriate way should call the police and file assault charges.

The whole TSA is a joke. Any terrorist could just put a plastic, ceramic or glass knife in their carry on. They're as dangerous as steal and will go right through the x-ray baggage scanners and metal detectors.

The govt's not smart enough to triple check people from Yemen so we all have to pay the price? Screw that.

I wonder what they do when strict muslim women come thru the airport, They are completely covered by clothing and so the scan and definately the "pat down" would be against their religious beleifs. I would rather just strip in front of all those people than have them touching me. it's a huge invasion. I know that you can take the easy way out and just do the scan but it still seems very intrusive. And the we dont pat down children under 12 yrs old so my 14 yr old that looks like she is 9 and seems to act 9 would be submitted to having a stranger touching her she already has stranger issues. Or maybe my 16 yr old some perv could be catchin a feel and we would be helpless to say anything about it. What about when there is a job opening for airport security now all the pervs have a reason to apply for the job.

Sure, and when they want mandatory cavity searches you can be first in line to bend over and hold your ankles.

An only the guilty have something to hide, right? So when they want to search your car for no reason, do you consent? Can the dogs sniff your trunk and interior?

Do they need a warrant to come in your home and look around? You must be hiding something if you don't open your door and welcome them in..... where does it end?

To paraphrase what someone said on another thread... people have died to protect our rights and now they're just being given away in the name of safety.

Don't fly w/o a strip search or radiation? That's your answer? I won't fly and have canceled plans for the annual family trip to Florida because we won't consent. The terrorists win again.

What's next? Don't ride the bus or the subway or go to the mall or drive on the highway or in the city... or leave your house without a photographic strip search with dose of radiation or sexual assault (call it what you want)..... why not? what are you hiding? Only the guilty would object, right?

It now looks to me as though the public reaction is so strong that policy may be modified. Too bad the outcry against the preemptive and totally unwarranted invasion of Iraq wasn't as loud before the fact. But, in THAT case, the mass media was acting as cheerleader, instead of its proper role as watchdog (as they are on THIS issue).

Hell, decided not to fly a few years ago when TSA searched my husband's baggage at the first airport, slapped a sticker on it that said it was searched (where & when), then broke both the lock and the latch at the transfer to search it again, taped it shut.
When did he have a chance to do anything with it?
I can't afford to buy new luggage every time I travel.

This just seals the deal, kids or no kids.

Flying was already a Bataan Death March with the airlines standing as monuments to Murphy's law. Add in these new procedures, and and my last root canal becomes a day at the beach in comparison. I think the airlines are gonna get hurt bad by this and the poor economy. The TSA doesn't care what we think, but when the airlines start losing customers in droves...you can be sure these rules will go away somewhat.

Besides, even if you could guarantee a terrorist-free flight (impossible)....they will just move to subways, buses, malls and amusement parks. They have already made this transition in Israel and Europe. To be honest, I wonder why these whackjobs haven't hit Disney yet. Talk about a high-profile strike at capitalist west....that's Disney World.

Everything I read from the TSA says they will always use same-sex gropers to maintain a comfort level for passengers. This is standard policy for police as well. I don't know about you other guys, but in terms of comfort, I would really rather have a female groping my junk than a male. I don't think it is homophobic either for a male to prefer a female groper....if we are to speak in raw terms of comfort level. I'm serious here....not trying to make a sex joke. I have had both male and female doctors and nurses in my life and always felt more comfortable with females...and I had testicular cancer, so there was lots of medical groping down there.

So if comfort is a priority as the TSA claims...why can't I request a female? Why can't anyone request anyone they want?

I suspect law enforcement isn't at all concerned with comfort...but rather liability.

Yearly physicals from my female doctor were much better than from guy docs ..... I know what you're saying.

There were also concerns mentioned about same sex searches by gay TSA workers.

I also agree about other targets. The terrorists have to be stopped when they're planning these things.... A blast in the check point area or 100 other crowded places would create more fear and panic than one in the skies. It's at best a false sense of security. Flights should be safe but not at any price....

poisonette, are you saying your experience didn't make you feel any safer? I always felt much safer when I saw them checking grandma's shoes for explosives on the trip to Florida.

HAHA, you and I think alike. If I opt out and get my junk probed, I would want to choose who molests me. It would make the experiance less traumatizing.

I'd rather be molested by that cute blond TSA agent standing in the corner who has the cute smile, then to be probed and felt up by the former Walmart door greeter named Bubba who just happens to have a badge, carries a gun, and claims to be God.

Unfortunately for all of us, with regard of the TSA, Bubbas are more frequent than you'd like to believe.

The problem with our current mindset is political correctness. We don't profile for fear some group will get upset. I'm sorry, but grandma from Florida who has flown every year for 10 years should not be treated the same as a guy from Yemen, who bought a one-way ticket (with cash) and has no history with the airlines.

Now the Israelis would pull that guy aside and ask him some questions and if he doesn't have good answers and wets his pants...he gets further investigated. Also helps that Israeli flight deck crews are armed and trained to expedite someone's plans to visit the afterlife, and make sure they take the trip by themselves.
