So today is the day I want to stop smoking cigarettes FOREVER!

I found that I wasn't bothering with my e-cigarette while smoking the real thing. I'm very much an all or nothing kind of person. But I was just wondering, do you now prefer vaping to smoking actual cigarettes and how long did it take for you to prefer it? I've just had what I hope to be my last cigarette and I miss it already!

I need to get used to it and today, finally, after over a week, my other liquids have come so I can try those when I get home from work.

Aloha Su,
What kind of kit do you have and what juices just arrived?

It took me about 10 days to stop HAVING the last couple of NEED IT cigarettes. (In the morning with coffee, in the car, after dinner. )
Once you begin substituting, the habit doesn't change much. (except that we can vape EVERYWHERE!!!) (UK -almost)

Count the ones you DON'T Smoke.
Welcome and good luck

Cheers

Welcome!!

My taste buds (taste) was pretty messed up from smoking so getting an accurate taste took a while. I think most experience it. Also, juice that is recently mixed needs to age in that the ingredients need to "meld". Most call it "steeping". Look for that in the e-juice sub-forum. What I do is buy ahead of time. While I am vaping one group of juices, I have another group in a dark place just "steeping".

When I first switched, my big concern was whether I would get the nic that I needed. Nothing else was as important. I used a stronger nic content and after about 6 hours, I had the confidence that I would still get my nic. If you find that the nic is too strong, vape less. If the nic is not strong enough, you will want to continuously vape. Just go by urges. I took about 4-5 draws and waited to see when my next urge was.

That was my only priority. I am down very low and sometimes I just forget to vape because I am busy and don't feel the urge. :) Soon I will drop my nic content down again. So much better than smoking. I switched over night.

Good luck!!

A year ago today was my first day without a cig. The key for me was having a juice I enjoyed (vape is sooo much better taste than a cig) and the proper nic content (I had tried 6 and had to move up to 12 to get the satisfaction/end to craving). I quit on the cheap CE 4's and an eGo battery. A couple days later (one year ago) I found ECF and bought a Nautilus Mini and an iStick and had the confidence that vape was a done deal and the cigs were gone.

I still had/have the occasional craving. I just grab the vape instead. Every aspect of life has improved since I switched and I have even reached the zero nic level in my juice.

Is it going to be pain free? No, but compared to other methods to get off the cigs vape is a miracle. You CAN do it!

1: do I now prefer vaping to smoking :
Absolutely yes.

2: how long did it take for me to prefer it.....
difficult question.
I started with disposable cigalikes, and pretty much immediately found i could stop smoking, but disposable cigalikes basically end up being more expensive than cigarettes.
So there was an up and down period of a few months to a year where I was basically chasing after hardware looking for something(s) that would be satisfactory as well as cost effective.

I quit immediately just over two months ago. Had my last smoke in the parking lot, went into the local vape store and bought an iStick 40TC/Nautilus Mini, walked out vaping and haven't smoked since (I smoked a pack a day for over 30 years).

I started with 12mg nic which helped. I am now down to 3mg in a dripper (usually just weekend nights) and 6mg in everyone else. If I am in a position where I can't pull out the mod very often (work, social events, sporting events/concerts, etc., I load up with 12mg.

I no longer have any desire to smoke cigarettes. And yes, I do really enjoy vaping.

howdy - and welcome!

I think one of the keys you may find helpful is having two tanks - one with a higher nic level liquid for times when cravings hit a little harder - it is completely doable, though

what kind of gear/ setup do you have? and what nic level juice?

The two "tricks" I used was the cheap tank with the next higher nic in it for those times the "itch" was worse, and the morning flavor I used to vape only in the mornings so I looked forward to it rather than a morning cig (blueberry muffin).

For me the higher nic extra tank was only used for a week and then I was adjusted to where the regular vape cured me. I dual used for the first eight days, cutting down on the cigs each day until I found my nic level. Don't count the ones you smoke, count the ones you don't smoke...first time in my life I ever had a pack of cigs last me three days.

After getting off the cigs I used steps to lower my nic content while keeping the higher nic cheap tank method. My reasoning is I never wanted the bad urge to vape just like the urge to smoke. It worked for me, and the adjustment period was usually from 3 days to a week.

The first two weeks off cigs are the most interesting. There are possible side effects of cig withdrawl (I had none). You also have to think "You don't smoke anymore, you're a vaper". The many years of habits, like reaching for a pocket to retrieve a lighter or a cig in those "automatic" situations (after a meal, sitting to relax, in a bar, getting in or out of a car...etc... ) is one you will have to remind yourself. It will happen a few times a day and you'll be thinking you really want a cig, but what you tell yourself is you now vape and the flavor of the vape is soo good.

A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette

If you have the desire you'll make it. After the first week without a cig you'll be in shock at how easy it was, I stayed shocked for two weeks, I just couldn't believe it was that easy.

Don't be shy, there is lots of help available.

Good luck @susan_1981

I didn't quit the way you are trying, but you can give it a go.

As I have little recollection of what smoking was like, find the taste revolting and now feel sick in an enclosed space with a smoker, I guess you could say I prefer Vaping.

I will offer some free gifts of liquids, atomizers and even a mod if you can keep it up for long enough to be smoke free. :)

For me, it took a while to enjoy vaping more than smoking. Once I quit chasing down that elusive "tastes like a cigarette" tobacco flavor, and broadened my view on flavor choices, things got a lot better for me. I no longer use any tobacco flavors at all. I haven't really craved a real cigarette in quite some time now, and the smell of them turns me away.

For me it was all about finding the right setup and nicotine strength, I like vaping way more than I did smoking, this recently came up in a facebook group and I really like what one person said to her husband.

"don't look at making the switch as quitting, your not quitting the nicotine you're only quitting the cancer, emphysema and heart disease"

Find a setup that works for you, if what you have isn't cutting it it may not just be the device, it could be the flavor or mg strength as well.

as for me, once I found the right setup I quit overnight.

Silly boyz....

Welcome @susan_1981 to the Wunnerful, Whacky Werld of ECF....

I took "quite some time" to transition from smoking to vaping. 2010, I was hitting less-than-satisfying cigalikes. They were more a novelty than the impetus to get me to quit smoking. Dabbled for a few years with that. Then, found the forums and slightly better equipment (albeit a Spinner 1600 and eGo tanks.) That's when the magic started. I actually decided I'd spent "enough" on vaping things that I couldn't justify spending money on cigarettes too (I was still smoking and vaping, depending on where I was at the time.)

But, I had enough confidence in what I was using at the time that I knew I didn't need to buy another pack of smokes. So I didn't. Almost two years later, still vaping proud and strong!

I did have gear in hand almost all my waking hours. You might have to play with nic levels to be comfortable if you can't vape exactly when you want. I've actually stepped UP my nic because I can't have vape-in-hand all the time. It amuses me, and I'm o.k. with it. I certainly don't need to go higher (I'm in the 9-12mg range now) if I go lower, I'll go lower. If I don't, I don't.

This is YOURs to own if you wish. We'll be happy to help where we can :)

If I had "tried to quit", I'd have failed. As long as I "missed" a cigarette, I would never have been happy with vaping. I started vaping primarily to have a way to "smoke" indoors; then I saw all the success stories round here, realized that I'd actually wanted to be a non-smoker for a long time, but never could manage the quitting, so I had just one question: do I have to quit all at once, like with the patch? I was assured that I did not. So I started an experiment, how many cigarettes could I eliminate or postpone, with vaping, and I kept a tally of all the cigarettes i actually did smoke, trying to smoke fewer the next day. It worked, in just about 3 wks time I was down to 1, and then zero. And never missed it; that was the really miraculous thing to me, after 48 hrs without a cigarette, I didn't miss them!

But as long as you feel "deprived", you're going to be unhappy, and vaping won't be enough. I'd say smoke until you're totally sick of smoking because the vape is that much better. That way when the smoking is gone, you won't miss it. If you make the choice, don't 2nd guess yourself by missing the thing you chose to stop doing. That's like missing a broken leg.

The hardest part for me was finding all of the partial packs of analogs that I had stashed around my place and disposing of them, it was like a bizarre Easter egg hunt ...

Once I realized that I would actually have to put on shoes and go to the store for smokes, it was much easier to just settle back in the recliner with the PV and cue up another episode of "Gunsmoke" on the Roku box ... :D

I couldn't smoke what I didn't have, and never cared for OPs ...

They say that "sloth" is a vice, but it helped me to overcome another truly deadly one ...
