Well, I couldn't find the proper filter...so I decided to give this a try as it is supposedly the same material Amazon.com: Duck Brand 1285234 15-Inch by 24-Inch by 1/4-Inch Foam Air Conditioner Filter

I do not recommend substituting the filter material for this, as I had some strange tingling going on in my arms and scalp area. Not saying it's related, I've just never experienced these sensations using other filler.

If the original filter material (the stuff used for aquarium pumps) is poyurethane foam, I would urge everyone to reconsider using this filler as there are toxicity concerns involved with it. Do a search on toxicity of polyurethane foam.

I really wish I could have used it, as it did work better than anything thus far from my very limited experience with it.

Just to clear up some things on this filler, there are two types of reticulated polyurethane foam...thermally and chemically treated. If you can find out which foam is thermally treated, it is most likely safe to use. The chemically treated is the scary stuff, as residual toxins such as benzene and toluene are present in the foam. I'm not sure at this point (as far as shelf product) which is safe and which is not, so I will be sticking to the PTB mod for now. If anyone has any info on what products are thermally produced, please let me know, as I found this to be the best mod to date and would be interested in using it again once it can be determined what products are considered safe.

Hey Dan, since I switched to 306a carts with PET, I've had some leaking issues-- I probably just need to increase the amount of PET in the carts, but I took this as an opportunity to try the reticulated polyurethane.

I wandered into Petco this evening and they had the specific type that others have been raving about for months, with no ill effects (Marineland PA0115-03 Bonded Foam Sleeve, type U), so I plunked down my seven bucks to give it a whirl.

I disassembled the problem cart and replaced the PET—which fell out, by the way; no wonder it was leaking—with a short length of the retPthane that I'd carefully and thoroughly rinsed and dried. I filled (actually, OVERfilled—it's hard to tell when to stop with these black inner carts, that's one big advantage of the blu ones) the cart with Habana Reserve, and the liquid absorbed VERY slowly. But when I put the whole thing together, it vaped fine, no flooding yet, no leaking yet, and no change in flavor.

I'll be on the lookout for adverse effects, but my early impression is that the retPthane is at least on par with PET as far as wicking and retention go, but it's obviously way easier to use. My real test will be to store this cig LED-down tonight and see if I notice any leakage in the morning. And based on my hour's usage (and the several months' usage of other vapers), this specific brand seems safe to use.

Okay, yes, there was leakage this morning after storing the e-cig LED-end-down all night, but I believe that's going to happen with this particular liquid (Decadent Vapours Habana Reserve) and any decently-wicking filler material. So I'm back to storing the blu and carts mouthpiece-up in the pack, then carrying the pack upside-down, so I can still pull the blu out of the pack with my teeth. I'd actually been doing this for a while, but flipped things back over when I switched to 306a carts because they're all the same color and I wanted to see the labels. No biggie.

Still no noticeable ill effects or funky flavors from the retPthane, and performance still seems as good as PET, with a lot less effort involved.
