After about 2-3 hours of tinkering, 3 failed coils, multiple wicking fails (with their fair share of constant dry hits), and 6-10ml of lost juice, I finally built my first successful Kayfun build!

I was just so proud of myself I had to make a thread :p
Been hardcore vaping only 2 weeks or so with my last cigarette almost 3 days ago. I've been staring at the hand-me-down Kayfun I've had everyday since the juice ran out in it. If you can't tell I didn't build it before it was given to me lol. It's probably the simplest tank that I have in my possession, and I've seen it built before, so I knew that I could do it. But just like anything else in life it just takes time, practice, and most importantly determination. It is sub-ohm, however, not as sub-ohm as I'd like it. It's at 0.75ohms and I use it mainly on my DNA-40 Vaporflask. It seems to work better on there than any of my unregulated mech mods.

It got to the point where I was so tired of hitting dry wick that I was afraid to even try and rebuild, but I knew that I could make it happen. On my third try that day (around 4am lol) I coiled it, wicked it, built it, and reluctantly filled it with juice. I did a few prime hits and kept turning it in circles and flicking it with my finger just waiting for that first bubble. Low and behold, it slowly made it's way into visibility and gradually rose to the top. I nearly ...... my pants and woke my roommates up jumping for joy when I saw it! And never once did any juice make it's way through the mouthpiece or the airholes. As I'm typing this up, I'm vaping it and loving it..oh look more bubbles!

I like bubbles...:D

Don't feel bad; I've had, and used, a Kayfun since May, and I still sometimes have difficulties: getting the wires under the tiny screws is sometimes a real challenge, though I'm getting better. And although I don't change the coil very often, I do have to re-wick and dry-burn quite often, and everytime I re-wick, it's still about 50/50 whether that wick will work properly; I sometimes have to drain and re-wick 2 or 3 times to finally get it working right. But it's worth it; my kayfuns are really all I vape anymore, they provide such a terrific vape, though I got a Magma recently that I also love -- it's also very easy to build for, if you get interested in RDAs, and flavor is just as good -- if not better! -- than Kayfuns; the deep well means you don't have to drip every other hit.

Oh I love my RDAs. My favorite so far is a Derringer clone dual coiled at 0.4ohms. I hope to get an authentic Hobo at some point. I have a clone...but it's way to cloney and finicky. I'll look into that Magma, the only thing I don't like about the Derringer is it's shallow base. I like the flavor of RDAs, but I also like RTAs when I'm on the go. RDAs all day at home :)

Thanks everyone!

I decided on the Magma because of the deep well, and the ability to close off the air-flow pretty well, for single-coil builds -- I don't do the subohm thing at all, my magma and my kayfuns are built pretty similarly, to provide a similar great vape. If I have another vape to switch off, I can get thru an entire hour-long TV show without needing to re-drip the magma; or, if I'm vaping on the magma pretty much exclusively, I can get by with 1 refill, at the half-hour mark. But it's strictly a stay at home vape, since it has to stay vertical at all times or it will leak. I'm looking forward to trying a Veritas; I hear they're also excellent for flavor, don't leak so much, and I've seen a single-vertical coil build for it that I'm eager to try out. I don't like dual coils at all, but it looks like that Veritas would work fine with a single, unlike a lot of dual-coil RDAs.

Wow 30 minutes without a redrip? Either I vape more than you, or the sb-ohm uses much more juice, or that Magma has a super deep well! Or a combination of some or all of the three :p

I've heard that sub-ohm does use a lot of juice, which I guess makes sense, with those ginormous clouds -- has to come from somewhere! I have my magma at 1.3Ω; I have to vape pretty conservatively with my asthma. And yeah the well is quite deep, almost a ml in that, and if you count what's actually in the wick, it probably is a ml, or pretty close. Even with much lower resistance build(s) in that, you could probably easily get from commercial to commercial.
