100mg will definitely last longer but is MUCH more dangerous to work with. Please remember that even 1 drop on bare skin of 100mg nicotine base CAN (and probably will) KILL YOU! So, use safety equipment (gloves, etc...)

No. It won't. While safety precautions are wise, 100mg nicotine base is safe to work with and if you get some on your skin, there is absolutely no need to do a mad rush to the sink to wash it off in the fear it's going to harm you.

While I do not support thoughtless or ill-informed fear mongering; not every person is the same. As @YoursTruli posted on another thread; there are those individuals that do need to give extra consideration to the handling of potentially harmful materials.
Nicotine Comparisons
We, as a community, can do an equal disservice by minimizing common sense safety practices. I cringe every time I read someone's post describing how they "covered the back of their hand with 100 mg/mL nic for 15 minutes and had no adverse effect." While it may be true, it is unnecessary, and benefits no one. And, can give someone like YoursTruli, a false sense of compacency for something that needs to be handled with respect.

I offer this not to be accusatory to you @retired1 (yours just happened to be the most recent ;)), or to any of the previous posters; but to present an additional point of view.

Maybe @MrDripper does not understand that 100mg nicotine is only a 10% solution?? It is easy to not get that - when I first tried DIYing I had to keep telling myself that over and over 100mg does not mean 100%. Also there is a forum member that vapes 50mg Nicotine unflavored at high wattage and low ohms - we are all different tolerance wise.;) But I do agree try not to scare the newbies.

That was my first thought upon reading the OP's post. I figured MrDripper must be confusing 100mg with 100% (1000mg).

MrDripper, DIY is definitely the way to go. I agree that experimenting with it is a blast too. Welcome to the DIY fold. :thumb:

The place I buy from charges almost double for 100mg compared to 48mg. So I thought, what the heck and bought 48 mg. The cost comes to a few bucks more but I don't have to worry about getting it on me or breathing it (within reason) and 1 liter of 48mg will make 16 liters of juice at 3mg. That's a lot of juice!! Totally worth it for the ease of handling.

I bought MyFreedomSmokes 100mg/ml nic in the liter size for $50/liter. I have one liter to freeze intact and another to break down into smaller bottles to freeze, keeping one out for immediate use. It's water clear and has no peppery taste. There's the same mild nic bite I'm used to at 3mg strength from commercial juices. I'd buy it again, but at 3mg juice strength it works out to be something like 18 years of DIY on 2 liters.

I buy all my nic from My Freedom Smokes. I do all exactly the same as DaveP. I just finished up a liter I bought in 7/14, it was as clear as it was the day I received it, the taste was also the same.

Did you freeze it? I'm wondering how long room temperature nic will stay intact for clarity and vapability. Most nic sellers recommend freezing. That satisfies the heat, light, and other aspects of preserving nic.

I would expect it's fine at room temperature for many months. I can't picture manufacturers storing all that packaged nic in freezers for shipping. I'm not recommending that as an end user. It's certainly easy enough to toss in the freezer when it arrives. You can toss it in still in the plastic container it came in (if not already in glass) until you have time to get around to transferring it to glass for long term storage.

I do the same as both of you, & also get my nic from MFS. Except for one liter from ECX that I haven't touched yet. I mix at 16mg right now, but working my way down so my 5 liters will last longer.

All of mine is frozen, including the liter I broke down into 120ml bottles. I just take out one to use & it stays in a cupboard. I just mixed a 500ml jar of 18mg base yesterday. Going to start having that ready so all I have to do is add flavoring & top off the bottle with base.

Absolutely. I broke it down into 30ml Amber Boston round bottles, with the cone caps. Stored in a plastic box in freezer from day one.

Although the issue has been addressed enough already...

From a vaping Toxicologist:
Electronic cigarettes and nicotine poisoning

My take away from that read was:

"Exposure of 10 cm2 skin to a liquid containing 20% of nicotine (200 mg/ml) in ethanol would result in uptake of 0.1 mg nicotine per hour. At lower concentrations, which are typically used in the preparation of liquids for electronic cigarettes, dermal resorption of nicotine is negligible."

And 100mg/ml is a 10% solution, which is half that amount. I was a little dubious at first, but once I actually set everything up, including the eye protection and gloves, and ensured the nic was in a place that was accessible, but not likely to get knocked over I got a little too sure of myself and forgot to put the glasses or the gloves on while mixing the third 60ml bottle of DIY juice.

I believe that eye protection, at least regular glasses, are a good idea to prevent a splash in the eye. Rubber gloves are also a good idea since they provide a secure grip on the bottles and other implements. I think the shop coat might be overkill.

After making my first 180ml of DIY juice I'm not that worried about serious consequences, but I'll still wear the minimum skin and eye cover when I'm DIYing. In my workshop I've accidentally slung a drop of solvent in my eye before. It's not fun at all. Nic might be better or worse, but I don't want to find out.
