Finally ordered some mechs, RDA etc

Thanks Cullin! Just saw the VTC5s on steam-engine and was about to ask too [emoji56]

Yeah, I definitely will triple check everything and do my first builds as safely as possible before firing up the mod. I reckon I'll practice on the kayfun for a good few weeks until I know what I'm doing before experimenting with lower ohm builds, or even rebuilding some of my old tanks coils etc. I've heard the deck is quite roomy for noobs.

My pleasure. That's a great idea. Get comfortable with higher ohm builds on the Kayfun first. I've found that I like the Kayfun Lite Plus V2 built at 1.1Ω the best. I use 26 gauge kanthal wrapped 8 times on a ⅛" post to achieve that but there are many other ways to achieve this. Also, with rebuilding, you can truly customize your vape and you may prefer something different. That is the beauty of it though. :)

Those batteries you purchased will work great with a Kayfun which requires higher resistance builds so they aren't a loss. The Kayfun can only wick so fast which prevents it from being built too low or having too much wattage put through it.

For rebuilding, all you need to know is Ohms Law (V = IR) where V = Voltage (4.2V for a fully charged battery), I = Current in Amperes, and R = Resistance in Ohms. With your 2000mah AW IMR having a maximum continuous discharge of 10 Amps, just plug into Ohms law above to find the lowest resistance. V=IR --> R=V/I=4.2V/10A=0.42Ω. That is the lowest resistance you can go, but that's even dangerous because you are pushing the battery to it's limit. I would stay above 0.6Ω with those batteries.

Btdubs, I love Germany! I want to visit there so bad. Have you lived there your whole life?

Cool thanks for the heads up [emoji106] Can't wait for my stuff to arrive and get cracking [emoji41] I'll definitely use your advice, and tinker some more too to see the differences in vape with differing builds. I'm looking forward to have way more control over taste, vapor, coil resistance and even materials used - I've not had much luck or at least, enjoyment, out of most of my tanks with stock coils - I'm never sure if I just expect too much from them or I get to used to their performance!

Do you build single coil builds in your Kayfun, or dual? Have you tried both, and if so what did you notice between the two?

Thanks for this! Ive saved the ohms law calculator posted below too, definitely don't want to build something dangerous so this is important info for me for sure [emoji106].

Haha, you love it but you've never visited? You gotta check it out dude [emoji41] Nah, I'm originally from Scotland, moved here 2 years ago for work (to Cologne), and moved up to Münster a couple months ago. I'll tell you, Germany is a cool place to be for many reasons, but it can also be pretty infuriating at times: German efficiency is a myth [emoji13]

I've ordered the 2000maH. I didn't realize there were differences in discharge rating, or that it was even important [emoji46].

I reckon I'll use these batteries for normal builds like 1.8 etc and upgrade them before attempting anything with much less resistance then. [emoji106]

Pulling 10 amps on a fully charged battery would be a resistance of .42 ohms. As long as you stay above .6 ohms (7 amps) you should be fine and have a little margin of safety. In addition batteries quickly drop from a full charge and along with the voltage drop so does the amp draw.

Are you also using the Kayfun?

I use a kayfun as my go to all day vape....but don't sub ohm a kayfun! The airflow, while better then your standard tanks, is inadequate for sub ohm...and drilling them out can play havoc with the internal vacuum that causes the juice to feed into the wicking. Also, single coil only. I build my kayfun at 1.2 ohms using 28 gauge kanthal, and it shines. You will find it works very well around 1.2-1.4 ohm range.

Ok I'll definitely follow your advice on this one, thanks!

What RBA would you recommend for sub ohming?

There are tons of good rebuildable dripping atomizer (rdas)...
I enjoyed my trident v1 clone. It allowed for dual or single coil builds, and the nuts used to fasten down the wires never chopped them like some posts do.
Recently got a 454 big block, it's a nice rda, but a lot of parts when building... Probably not good for your first.
That Plumveil looks like it would be a dream to build on!

Never heard of it but just googled it. Looks nice!
As to whether it would be a dream to build on, I'm definitely not qualified to comment, yet [emoji13] But I've added the 3 you've mentioned to my bookmarks, as I will definitely experiment with different RBAs, drippers and builds, and to acquire a small arsenal of gear - it would be rude not to [emoji7]

One vaper friend is a real stickler for change and with his generic pen-style battery and no-brand tank with minimal vapor production, he's more than happy, fair play! But for me, I want choice and to experiment.

Cheers for the heads up [emoji106]

Everyone has different preferences.
The reason I think the Plumveil would be nice to build on is the deck size is average for a 22 mm dripper and the 4 hole design making dual coils much easier to fasten than a standard 3 post design.

My brother inlaw was on egos for the last year. He finally bought my old SmokTech SiD and was blown away by the vape quality using the same tanks he had on his egos!
I think I'll talk him into a kayfun next
Vaping is a journey, and we all move at different paces. I like to tinker, so I upgraded to rebuildables 3 months after starting with egos (had to wait for budget to open up for it!)
My other brother inlaw upgraded after 6 months of vaping to a kayfun because he was sick of bad qc in his nautilus tank...

See, you mentioned about the difference in vape quality using the same tanks on a different battery. Is that simply due to having access to variable watt/volts? I read opinions and sometimes people will say 'this mod hits harder on my tank than that mod does' etc - in my head they're both pumping out the same wattage/volts/coil resistance etc so how can the vape differ?

In relation, I too am so sick of QC, I don't even bother with my nautilus any more. The gurgly wee thing just sits and gathers dust. I've been using an iClear16D the last 2 weeks purely because despite me doing my research, getting x number of recommended tanks and VV/VW batteries etc, a friend I've just converted got an Innokin SLK that came with the 16D, and was getting way better taste out of it, and most importantly way way less hassle from it than I was despite mine costing over 3x more! She's not changed a coil yet in 2 weeks and loves it.

Her husband went back to UK for a week and got himself a nautilus mini, so after reading all the positivity surrounding it I've asked him to bring one over to me here in Germany when he's back on Tuesday, PRAYING I can find some vape heaven that will be a good grab n go tank to rotate with the Kayfun once I start rebuilding. Knowing my luck, it will suck too tho [emoji13][emoji13][emoji13]

I agree about moving at different paces, and definitely budget is important, but now I really value convenience AND performance, so I'm definitely happy to drop a lot more money to get both after thinking this €10 tank will be better than that €10 tank and essentially throwing money away in the learning process for no gains. I still say my mini Novas (my first tanks) are bulletproof and the best of all I own - yet I shop in B&Ms and replacement coils are impossible to find [emoji24]

I love vaping, but I really hate things that don't work as they should. Leaking, gurgling, flooding, burning, dry hits, bad coils etc. I'd never have dreamed of dropping €250 on vape gear 3 months ago, surely now I can find my sweet spot [emoji56]
