Ever since I QUIT analogs and started vaping (7-09) my blood pressure has risen  I mean seriously, if my bp was averaging 120/65 while I was smoking over a pack a day and I quit and switch to vaping 4-6mg (2-3 ml a day) I do not understand why or how that would cause an increase in my pressure. I'm wondering if it's simply a coincidence that it started rising after I quit analogs and started vaping and maybe it's something else causing it. It averages 140/85 now and my dr wants to put me on something. She thinks it's the nicotine but cannot explain why smoking wasn't causing any bp problems .....anyone ever have this problem and figure it out?? I don't want to quit vaping yet... I will if I have to but I don't want to!

I've not faced this particular issue, but I think I would drop to a 0 nic level for a bit and monitor my blood pressure. If your blood pressure doesn't reset itself while you're using a No Nic liquid, then your doctor will have to look at other potential issues. If your bp does straighten out while you're on 0 nic, then you can make a more informed decision about whether to continue vaping a no nic or perhaps quit altogether. Just a thought....

Mine sure has lately, and I know I've been vaping a lot more heavily. A couple of times I've looked flushed and took my blood pressure - it was around 155/95. I took it again in the morning after I had been up for a little while but hadn't vaped at all yet, and it was back to 122/78. I typically use 11-12mg strength and sometimes 6 - looks like I should dial it back some more.

If you are having problems with blood pressure, I would not look at e-cig use as the cause, unless you have increased your nicotine absorbtion to an unhealthy high (36mg to 48mg ~ yes, I've seen people use that strength). Or if you had smoked less than 1/2 pack a day and now vape at a heavy level. By the sound of the juice strength you are using, those are not high, they're low for most people. And, lower than while smoking, although you didn't mention quantity of smoking. You need to have a good work up with heart, blood, liver, kidney, PAD, etc. Ask for a blood test that shows your cotinine level (the measure of metabolised nicotine).
The law of physics would indicate you are using less nicotine than while smoking, plus if you have stopped smoking there are other factors involved, such as heavy metals and other toxins no longer being absorbed. Other factors may be weight gain, or any dietary changes, such as increased salt, or problems with thyroid or pituitary glands, infections, or diabetes, etc.
Every Doctor seems like wants to blame everything except maybe pregnancy on smoking or vaping, don't fall for those tactics.

if you take blood pressure within several minutes of vaping you will notice higher bp. that's the nicotine doing what it does. if you wait 15-30 minutes before testing it should be down around whatever is normal for you.

it could be the vg, instead of the nicotine.

Please, do go to the Threads below, do some serious reading: If you have a health question, I heartily recommend seeing a physician. I can think of no effect other than servere allergy where VG would affect a person by raising blood pressure. Check the ingredients in your juice, any possibility of allergy?? There would have to be a serious underlying cause. Misinformation is more dangerous than no information at all.

Nicotine is a vaso constirctor so yes it can affect BP - having said that - there are many many other things that can cause a rise in BP. I have had low BP my whole life, (90 0ver 60 average, 100/70 since I got older) even during heavy smoking episodes (months not weeks or days worth) and it only rose a bit (high for me low for normal people lol) after I was diagnosed and began treatment for both early menopause and thyroid issues (too much not too little). Both of these things can cause a rise in BP btw as can the drugs which treat them.
Since I gave up smoking and started vaping it fell again but I have to add my actitivty levels (excercise) aren't good; Im far too sedentary lol. Excercise also affects BP usually in a positive way.
Diet (and weight) can also affect BP (heck what doesn't seem to affect BP?!! lol) so check your salt intake. A simple blood test will also tell you if your potassium levels are too low (guess what that can affect? lol) or if you have too much cholesteral or 'bad fats' in your blood.
As we are all built differently what was the cause in a BP rise for person A may not be a cause for person B.
My friend has a genetic predisposition to choloesterol, despite an active life, low salt diet and being super fit. Their arteries are basically shot to hell and they will need a bypass at some point; drugs can't help alas as its genetic. Also she never smoked; so you can see, one size doesn't fit all in diagnosis.
I wish you luck in pinning down the cause though :)

I never thought that this may be related to my bp but this past October my doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. At the same visit he explained that due to the thyroid being the regulator of many things in our bodies, my cholesterol levels (mostly triglycerides) were out of whack. He prescribed Synthroid and told me to take high grade fish oil and niacin. He also said within 6-12 months my cholesterol would return to normal by controlling the thyroid and taking the supplements. I go back the beginning of May for more testing. I will tell him what has been happening and request testing to find out what is causing it, not just an assumption of what he thinks it 'may' be. My GYN said it was the nic juice without doing any testing.

Thanks to all!

My BP went up a few months back but I know it's from weight gain. I gained 40 pounds since I started vaping last summer. I am now eating healthier, a REAL vegetarian diet, cut out all the junk food and white sugar and white flour products and now my BP is returning to normal. I still vape just as heavily as always.
I also feel 100% better overall when I cut out all the sugar and white flour products.:D
Started lifting weights more often too.

I am gluten intolerant and was having a bit of weight gain also so I've been on no sugar, starch, gluten, processed food, low sodium, etc. for awhile now so I know it isn't that. My weight is back down to normal and I feel good... just worried about the pressure being elevated. I am not exercising again until I get this worked out since exercise raises the bp even more.... don't wanna stroke out! I know, I'm a worrier....

Don't know yet how or if vaping will affect my BP, but I do know that a low carb diet did. Low carb works for me weight-wise, but if I don't make sure to stay on the veggie side vs. the meat side my BP and cholesterol go up big time.

I've wondered about VG/ heart. Only since most VG's seem to be coconut based, I wondered if this would contribute to higher BP or even chloesterol.

I'm borderline hypertension, well actually right on the nose I fluctuate, up to 140/90. This was one of the reasons I quit anologs. I think my sleep apnea has more to do with my BP than smoking did. I've been off anologs for 3 months, vape ocasionally with 0mg and joined a gym and my BP always seems to fluctuate up to 140/90....

To the original poster. You would know better than anyone, since it is your body. Have you done anything different while you quit smoking? Be honest with yourself and try to weed things out. I just find it weird that your blood pressure was fine while you smoked 1 pack a day, than got high when vaping. Maybe nicotine absorbs differently on everyone, or its something else in the PV, or maybe its not the PV. It seems like it is though, since you said its lower when u stop vaping.
