Hello All,
I've been vaping since the 2nd of July and here is my first coil and build. Not very proud of how it looks, but I'm proud I did it.

28g Kanthal A1
2 mm ID (wound on a coat hanger so it's +/-2 mm)
Metered at 1.1 ohm. Was aiming for 1.2 ohm (I lost a turn somewhere). Using Steam-Engine.org's calculator.(Put a donation link on it!)

Here are some pics, your thoughts please?
TIA

A little tip: If you put your mandrel in the coil, and rotate it clockwise from the current 2/8 position to an 11/5 position, you can fit your wick in an 'S' pattern (as opposed to a 'Z' pattern).
When you screw on your chimney base, the wick tails - if they move - will be pulled into rather than against the clockwise rotation.

Other than that, it' looks fine for your first try... and good for you for using Steam Engine. ;-)

Nice job ... I use either cotton yarn or silica to make my wicks, but you can also use cotton from a cotton ball like so many here do.

The reason I am posting to this thread is to give you another way to install the cotton wick.

Instead of pushing it down before installing the lower section on the chimney ... try pushing the cotton up and then install the chimney over the cotton ... Then push the cotton down and into position after the chimney is already on.

To make it easier to understand what I just said ... look at these photos:

Thanks ya'll,
@tinkiegrrl, I took that one off and am working on #2, I need to raise the ohms so that I can use it on my VV as well...
I'll rework the angle going forward.
@state o' flux, thanks for the chimney advice! And for the props to Steam Engine, I really would gift $5 - so helpful.
@ cullin kin, Thanks! I've spent a LOT of time YouTubing it really helps!

Awesome, this is like the "Navy Nest" method in the tutorials. Thanks

Did a second coil just before leaving for work. 1.3 ohm, 2 mm ID, wicked with cotton- Nailed the wick on my first try! No pics of the wick, had to run but I Vaped my Nzonic clone all the way to work. Super flavor from The Kayfun no issues at all. Here's a pic of the rig though. Thanks for everyone's help. I love this community!

Good job. Keep practicing, and you'll get better.

If you haven't already, go ahead and buy 100ft of wire, and whenever you feel like it, practice. If they come out really nice, you can put 'em aside and save em for when you need a coil.

Personally, I make about 5 coils at the begining of each week, and just replace them as necessary.....

Also, on a side note, I find the kayfun lite performs best at .6-1.6 ohms, specifically .8-1.2 ohms ;) seems to be the sweet spot.

Solid advise Flux, didn't even think of that.
