About to build my first deck tonight. Don't have a voltage meter. So, I'm trying to figure out a good and safe coil build that i can get within the 1.5 ohm range. Have 28g and going to use a toothpick for diameter. How many wraps would I need? Guy at vape shop said 5 wraps, but a lot of online sources say 10. Any suggestions? Using a trident rda with panzer blackhawk clone.

if ur using kanthal a1 wire then for a toothpick (like a 1.5mm diameter) you'd need 9-10 wraps to get in the 1.5 ohm range. Someone correct me if im wrong

you will need 30ga, kanthal wire to build a 1.5 ohm coil. six or seven wraps on a 1/16" bit. 28ga. is for subohm builds. get a meter. get some 30ga. and tasteyourjuice.com

Damn, I was hoping to get this thing vaping tonight. So there is no sure way to make a coil that will be 1.5 or more? Probably won't be able to anyways because my 18650 still isn't fully charged. Been charging for 3+ hrs. It's not hot, but I feel like it should have been charged by now. They don't sell them completely drained.

eek...just saw your post count and feel bad I didn't welcome you.

Hello! And welcome to ECF, where we care more about you keeping your face than blowing clouds ;)

erm...If you bought your batteries at the same shop that told you to just slap a 5 wrap coil on it...umm...I wouldn't want to guess what shape the batteries might be in.

I totally get wanting to play with your new toys as soon as you get them. Most days my vapemail doesn't make it all the way in the door before I'm tearing it open, but you gotta play safely. It's just not worth it to chance your build.

As a disclaimer, I wrap micro-coils which are very closely spaced (touching each other).

I wrap 30 gauge at 10 wraps around a 15 ga. nail which is a little bigger than a toothpick. That comes out to almost exactly 2 ohms. 28 gauge wire resistance is about 0.63 times that of 30 gauge. Therefore, if you were to wrap 10 wraps of 28 gauge on the same nail I use, your coil would be about 1.3 ohms. Since the toothpick you're considering is a smaller diameter, the wire length will be even less and the resistance will be lower. Probably around 1 ohm with 10 wraps.

Conclusion. Go find the guy that told you 5 wraps of 28 ga. to get 1.5 ohms and punch him in the face. Better yet, Give him your mod with a Trustfire battery and the same coil and tell him to try it out
