Thanks.
This forum is a serious gold-mine of information.
Thanks.
I am pretty sure that it's the nickel based batteries not lithium ion based (which is what is used for all e-cigs) that have a "battery memory" ie improper charging destroys the battery. So if your battery is failing it is defective. I charge mine overnight all the time with no problems..What a great forum this is. Tons of useful info. As before: thanks to everyone who's been replying.
I realize now that yeah, it's undoubtedly the primer that was making this an unpleasant experience. With the primer now gone from the first cartridges I started using, the flavor is definitely better. I am a bit ticked off at the vendor for failing to explain this in their "documentation" -- it'd be a benefit to the user and would be worth their adding as an "errata" even if the manufacturer doesn't say this in the manual.
And kudos to everyone who advised that the likely LED color change on the charger is red=uncharged/green=charged. That's the opposite of what it says in the manual for the esmoke.net product I bought -- and that document is flat-out incorrect. I thought at first that the batteries must be charged up because I had one of them in the charger and the LED was red -- so, per the manual, it must already be charged. So I used it. Now I have the thing back on the charger and after a couple of hours, it did turn green.
So I have probably screwed up my battery by using it before charging it enough. I'm going to have to get a bit aggressive with the vendor about this -- they're sending out flat-out-inaccurate documentation (and of course some of this is user stupidity. I should have known better -- should have just put the damn' batteries into the charger and left them there). If I've messed up the battery, it's partly their manual's screw-up and partly my screw-up. Might become an unfortunately expensive way to learn a lesson...
I've been having to charge these quite a bit. One of them is really small, so I'm not surprised. I don't know why they supply the kit with one regular sized battery and one kind of small one. Oh, well.I am pretty sure that it's the nickel based batteries not lithium ion based (which is what is used for all e-cigs) that have a "battery memory" ie improper charging destroys the battery. It's odd how much people's experience with that initial bad taste varies. With some it's bad -- others, not problem. When I first tried my e-cigarette (I received some "Mint" cartridges) I thought it tasted very nice. It was a very faint minty taste. I suppose there was a very faint sortof chemical smell to it, maybe from the atomizer?, but it definitely was not bad.
Cross compatability is limited at best. I can't reccomend a site because I only use one product (the one I sell at the mall) and it is definitely not interchangable because for our e-cigs the battery is part of the actual device. I don't thing there is a realistic looking e-cig with a long battery life. They just don't last all day for heavy smokers. There is one on the market called the screwdriver that is supposed to be unsurpassed for battery life but it looks more like some wierd drug pipe then a cig. Personally I have 4 devices and keep chargers with me everywhere I go but again I only use the products I sell and although tempted when first saw the screwdriver I opted not to get it for fear of police harassment when vaping in public. My advice is to start a thread saying "hey where is a good place to buy replacement parts for my E8?"I've been having to charge these quite a bit. One of them is really small, so I'm not surprised. This model appears to be the one that is known generically as the "E8". Anyone know where additional batteries for it can be purchased? It was a mistake for me to get this particular model -- well, not entirely, as it got me started and today I had 1/3 the number of actual cigarettes as I normally smoke, which is VERY unusual for me -- but I've got to get some more batteries for it until I've got some other model with better/larger capacity batteries.
To what extent are batteries for the various models interchangeable?
I would be a bit leery about hauling out one of those things in public, too. I can just imagine: "Nice ...., dude."when first saw the screwdriver I opted not to get it for fear of police harassment when vaping in public. It's kind of odd -- that first cart I had was terrible. The bad taste went away after a while. After reading here that the primer chemical is the culprit, I assumed that every new cart would have this problem.I'm new to this and learning as well. I have a Red Dragon which I believe is very similar to yours. The carts that came with it were so bad tasting that I just couldn't use them.

But they didn't. Only one had a slightly nasty flavor -- one of the supplied 'tobacco flavored' carts. That taste never fully departed, but with the additional chocolate and vanilla carts I ordered, there was NO bad taste at the start. Hmm. These are all 'cartomizers'. I would have thought that all of the atomizers would have this problem. But only the one did. Perhaps the problem is with the batch of 'tobacco flavored' carts supplied with the unit. Not that I care to taste tobacco any longer, but I might have to make do with them for a day or so until I can find some liquid, not an easy thing to do in this one-horse town that pretends to be a world-class city.
Then if I can actually find some (did I mention it's kind of a one-horse town?I'll watch Leaford's 'how to refill an E8 cartridge' video again, and hope I can get it right. There's one how-to-refill video on YouTube that I just watched, which is about refilling cartridges made for that purpose. The woman who made the video is using a syringe to do the refilling. Looks handy enough.
She mentioned getting the syringe at a drug store. Now these days, when you practically can't get Sudafed without taking a loyalty oath and bringing a note from Obama himself, how the heck do people buy syringes at drugstore, unless they're diabetics and can prove they need to shoot insulin? (The video mentions getting syringes at PureSmoker.com, but there's no sign of any such product on that web site as far as I can tell.)
Here are places that sell syringes
