So I got my Solar Flare DSE103 today. While one batt was charging I tried it out with the spare and got quite a few drags in, but not with much vapor. Waited impatiently the rest of the day while the battery charged 8 hours.

Since then I've tried the carts of varying strength and dripping some extra RY1 juice in the carts and on the bridge. Very little throat hit or vapor even when I vary the draw/drag length and intensity. A little background--I smoke a little under a pack a day of Marlboro Lights and am more of a puffer than an inhaler. I was a surprised because I thought TH would be of little importance to me when I found the opposite to be true.

I don't know if I've just chosen the wrong PV for me or if all the other little variables just need some tweaking. On the up side, I was pleasantly surprised when I dripped a little mocha juice on there. I had the idea in my head that I would only enjoy tobacco flavors at first, but I liked the mocha better than the RY1. I'm just glad they sent me the wrong juice sampler because I had in fact ordered tobacco flavors.

Another thing I don't quite get. Sorry for being such a noob, but I've gotta ask. I had the idea that the carts, which are about the size of an analog filter were completely filled with the poly or whatever it's called. Well, my starter carts had tiny little carts inside, about the size of a pencil eraser pulled completely out of a pencil, and inside this was the poly and juice. Is the little one called a dart? Maybe I'm confusing the terms mouthpiece and cart. I'm thinking I could go buy some poly and completely fill the filter-sized cart and drip more juice in to try and create more vapor.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to do except start researching other models.

Hi and I'm sorry your having problems. I don't know tomuch about that brand I went with the recommended 510 from cignot and it was pretty good. When I first started I had problems with the puffing, I didn't do it slow and long enough but it sounds like you tried that. Somebody who knows that brand will answer soon and help. Also after you get 15 posts you can go to the sub forum for that brand and post. Good luck.

i dont know about that brand.. as far as filter mods the one i had best results with is the blue foam mob..

as far as your problem with throat hit.. and little vapor..

to get more of a throat hit add a few drops of high proof alcohol to your liquid..

to get more vapor add a small amount of vegetable glycerin do not over due it or it will reduce the flavor of the liquid..

I think the 103 is similar but not identical to the 4081. No, you can't fill the whole mouthpiece. You have to draw air through it. The small white "eraser piece" is the cart. You will get plenty of juice in your mouth without doing that. Here's the link to the 4081 thread. There is alot of good informarion there that I'm pretty sure will apply to your model. Take your time with it.

Well I don't know about that particular e cig. But if you decide to go another route check out the 901s over at zapcigs.com. I got mine today, it is my first pv but I would definately recommend it. I took it straight out of the box started vaping on one battery while I charged the other... I used the first battery for 4 hours, taking a few draws about every 5 to 10 mins. It was still going strong. It produces a good amount of vapor and although it has an automatic battery it doesn't seem to have a cutoff. It just keeps going and going. I've been very impressed so far. Now I'm just tryin to find the juice for me.

Oh yea sorry your first go at it has been disappointing

The mouthpeice is the housing that holds the cart.

For throat hit, you're going to want a 510, I can tell you that and Im sure most will agree. Besides a mod that looks out of the ordinary to most, the 510 is the best for TH.
For more vapor on your current 103, try holding your fingers over half the holes at the screw in point. You either have 2 or 4.

Hope that helps.

I don't see any holes--just one at the end of the mouthpiece.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!

I might just go ahead and order a 510. Since it's pretty cheap it's worth a shot anyway--thanks beecee. With this 103 I'll be headed to the store for more analogs anyway, so might as well spend it on another model.

At times I do get a decent vapor, but it's very inconsistent, but still almost no TH. I can feel the nicotine effects, so it's not the nic strength. Maybe I'm just expecting too much.

This might help answer your inconsistent vapor questions...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

kinda sounds like the NJOY carts with the little tiny eraser size filler dish at the bottom of the cart.

Auto batteries are even harder to deal with like the dc2 said.

You should try the 510 though. I know you just got that one but for aroiund 35 bucks for a starter kit you can't go wrong.

Sounds like good advise. If you like the 510 then you can add an upgrade to the system to a larger, longer lasting battery the Tornado or Ego which is the same thing made by Joye for the 510.

:)
