Hey! I plan on jumping into the scene of mechanical mods. First time, I understand ohms law etc and a decent amount of battery safety. I plan on getting a Tugboat V2 (clone - I don't want to pay upwards of 100$ for something I might not even enjoy using) and I plan on getting some genuine Aspire ICR 40A 18650 batteries. I know they are authentic and I trust aspire a decent amount to have good quality batteries. I'm wondering if these batteries will go well with the tugboat V2, I plan on using dual Clapton coils around 0.25, but I don't plan on going any lower then that. Everything good with this setup? My maths say it should drain about 16A but I just want to be safe rather than sorry :)

I wasn't aware Aspire manufactured batteries.
;)

I'd use trusted sony 18650 IMR vtc4s rather than Aspire's rebranded cells.
They aren't rebranded or rewrapped, the company that owns and manafactures for Aspire, Eigate, have their own battery manafacturing plant, and they are not bin grade rewraps like efest :)

That seems to be one of those cornercutting mods that come with no centerpin.
Not advisable for a first mechanical mod.

What are you accustomed using?

Id like to see some proof of that. I did a search and found nothing to verify that. I personally do not believe it.

It's not a 40a battery as advertised and when tested, suffered severe damage with a single 40a discharge.

https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...re-40a-hybrid-18650-1800mah-batteries.687357/

It's basically a 20 amp protected ICR battery, and NOT recommended for unprotected mechanical mods.

ICR batteries aren't friendly when they vent

I currently use an innokin disruptor with isub g, Im not to fussed with the quality of it, for 23$ I can't complain. I dont want to dish out 100$+ for something I might not even like

The disruptter should fire a 0.2 ohm coil, and good up to 50 watts.

In your first post, you said you'd rather be safe than sorry, in which case, if you want to get a mech for whatever reason, no point getting one that has no center pin.

I guess I'll just go with an RDA for my innokin. Any good RDA recommendations?

I don't have one but the velocity looks good;
It's relatively new; I have the manta and the magma; they are older; all three have just 2 post separated from the center. Super easy to start building on. the velocity specifically maximizes the separation.

The manta is a leak resistant design with top intake airflow channeled down to hit it coils from the side.

I've noticed some folks refer to this type of "510 to battery" connection as a hybrid type connection, suggesting the purpose is to mimic the look of a hybrid. This was confusing to me having just recently returned to the scene ("THAT's not a hybrid..THIS is a hybrid!" <whips out Diablo v1.0).

Looks similar to the SMPl, which seems (based only on my research...I kinda want one) to be a dandy little mod...I can't speak for the Tugboat tube as I know nothing about it.

Explain why you call a hybrid mod corner cutting.

Those are sometimes called "hybrid-look" or "hybrid-style" mods; also called fakehybrid, fakebrid, or psuedohybrid.
New vapers who don't know the danger end up shorting out the 510 connector on top of the battery.

I am currently vaping on a true hybrid setup, the nemesis plus 3d rda.
The interface between the two is m20x0.5 threading.
The 3d rda threads directly onto the mod.
The 3d rda comes with an m20x0.5 to 510 adapter so that it can also be used with the 510 theaded standard interface on other mods.

That tugboat v2, like the smpl and a few others, are 510 threaded, but does not have a centerpin.
A basically you can get a plastic insulator plus centerpin from some other mods and screw that in from below and those mods will then have a centerpin like most other mods. So it just cuts corners in that sense. You can unscrew the insulator from certain mods and get that same centerpinless interface.

I understand that it's not a "true" hybrid, but nowadays everything with a direct connection to the battery is considered a hybrid.

Incorrectly called hybrids by novice vapers who do not understand what they are talking about.

Don't feed the mistake.
This is how problems start.

Haha! Believe me, I'm not a novice & I absolutely understand what I'm talking about. The terminology has been changed recently to hybrids for direct battery contact. There's not a huge majority of vapors using true hybrids, but there's a huge amount using "today's" hybrids. Have a good day.
