Hey all,
Thanks for being here. I have learned a lot about the e-cig from you all that I would have never figured out on my own.
Wish I had read some of these posts before venturing on my firsts mod.

Frustrated with dead and dying batteries and not very patient waiting for replacements in the mail, I decided to make an "emergency" device.
Originally, I was working on a portable type, but not knowing the power requirements led me to start on a bad design.
Fortunately, I had put in a plug for a stereo jack that I could hook to a a variable power source for testing different power levels.

I am currently running it off a 5.1v 1A transformer from an old zip-drive.
Talk about vaping. It actually did run off of two AAA batteries but very long.

EVERYTHING was found in my lab and it cost nothing to make.
I have concidered dropping the voltage,...but I love the way it vapes and am currious how long the atomizer will last at 5.1v.

This is "Mark 1" so if I do another (likely) I will improve the design.

Here it is (be gentile, its my first time):

Oops, not enough posts to link URLs.

Its here:

Welcome and nice mod! It looks like it would be good for cleaning atomizers as well.

Thanks all.

Oh yes, it will CLEAN an atomizer alright.

My first love is my 701 (cigar) but I am using it only when mobility is key.
This mini-cig mod loves AC, and oh the cloud of joy it makes. :)

BTW, how do I get an avatar to show?, seem to be having trouble finding the setting.

Nice mod Dabar! (And welcome of course) :)

Just a FYI: I have a UPSB (that's a device from Partysmoker in the netherlands) that works with a very nice batterypack which can be adjusted to different volts at which to vape. So you can try all kinds of strengths-of-battpack just by using a slider-switch to choose the strength. Of course lots of others (certainly in the netherlands) have the same device.
As it shows, just about everyone comesto the same conclusion: 5V/1A seems the ideal voltage - gives real good smoking-experience, is strong enough to clean the atomizers, but doesn't kill off atomizers too soon because of too much strength in volts.

So I would say, you have chosen the exact right/best voltage you could! :D

YAY!
I am thankful for the info. Makes me feel better.
Would like to keep the atomizers I have working as long as possible.

great look and the stereo plug in is the power???

Thanks. and Yes.

As stated my goal was to use only objects I had on hand.
I had some mini stereo jacks so I cut the stereo plug off an old set of headphones and spliced it onto the output cables of the zip-disk power adapter.
Thus 110vAC input, 5.1vDC output.

This makes for UNLIMITED POWER!!! (evil laugh).
Well, as long as I stay within 8ft of a wall outlet. :D

Oh, In case it doesnt make sense in the photos, I used the end of the mini-cig and its diode so the tip still glows when I activate the switch.

It has a quick-disconnect inside so I can add a battery pack for "mobile" operations,...but, I sure do LOVE the 5.1vDC.

Remember it is not only volts but amps that can fry an atty. I was using a 4.5v converter running 1600ma and cooked 3 attys. I will be trying to put in a resistor to drop the amps but trying not to drop the volts. Anyone know the right formula or if I can drop the amps without dropping the voltage?

Hmm. Interested in said formula too.

I wonder if 1A is too much?
