First post/ecig got some questions

Hey all! I have been reading around this site for a while and really learnd alot from it.
I am 22 and have been smokeing mostly pipe for a few years my roomate got a ecig a few weeks ago i tried it then I got a Janty minifoger and im really happy with it.

As a new ecig-er??? i have a few questions
I smoked pipe because it was cheap (I'm college student all money goes to tuition)
im looking to make my own e-liquid sofar I got VG from walmart and a leter of PG from a Hy-Ve's (grocery store chain in KC) pharmacy for $10!
1. what is the difference?
2. any recommendations for flavors and companies to buy from (keep in mind I love pipe and a good throat hit)

also Im at my computer a lot (computer science major) i have been looking at geting a usb passthough
the mini fogger is a 306 if im correct (ps. i dont konw what that means)

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can take a stab at the others! (Welcome to the forums, btw)

501 and 306 are atomizer types. There are several major atty types, 501 being the most popular with 306 coming in right behind it. The atomizers are based on thread type(how it screws into the battery), the length of the design and the bridge type. The bridge is the metal and mesh portion that covers the coil(it does all the leg work burning the juice to make the vapor). The 501, 306, 901, etc all reference atty types because people make mods that utilize these different atomizer types.

Don't quote me, but I would assume because the 501 and 306 are the same native threads, that you could use the 306 on that passthrough from Totallywicked. But I would wait for a more concrete answer before you ordered anything.

PG - Propylene Glycol is a thiner base for e-juice and causes a greater throat hit. VG - Vegetable Glycerin is thicker base for e-juice and causes a great plume of vapor. Most people like a blend of the two to give TH and vapor. I see a lot of 70PG/30VG floating around the forums, so I am going to assume that is the average mix of the two.

When making your own juice you need 3-4 things. Base(PG or VG), Flavor(you can buy LorAnns at cake supply stores, sometimes WalMart), and liquid nicotine(which is purchased from reputable vendors). You can use a couple of other little things along the way to spruce of your flavors, but those three things are the basics of all e-juice.

If you are looking for pipe/tobacco flavors you can check some of the other flavoring producers; quite a few e-cig DIY suppliers have them.

When I make my juice, I use LorAnns flavoring, PG base nicotine, and VG base to fill the rest. I also use a sweetener to give my flavor a little bit of a punch. Sometimes if I am adding a tiny bit of oil based flavor to the juice, I will use a pure grain alcohol(150 proof vodka) to help emulsify the oil into the rest of the mix. It is generally not recommended to use oil bases in large quantities because A) they can wreck havoc on your atties and B) it is questionable what the long term affects are on the lungs. I only mention this because one of the most sought after flavors is Cinnamon and most Cinnamons are oil based, so be careful.

A 510 passthrough should work for Joye 306 attys and cartos but don't plug a PT into computer USB. Get a 2amp USB to AC adapter or get an adapter that says it is for the PT you buy. Most PTs need more than the 500mA PC USB is specced to provide. And don't get a 5v output PT - it might damage your attys. 3.7v should be plenty hot.

PG - thin and lets through the most of nicotine's TH and irritation and the most flavor, weak vapor
VG - thick, dulls Th and irritation, dulls flavor, makes thicker more persistent vapor

Button has nothing to do with 510 and 306. both 510 and 306 have manual (button) batteries available and also the more easily damaged auto batteries available. 510 and 306 have similar threads. Similar enough that a 510 can use 306 attys and cartos. I do not know if a 306 can use 510 stuff certainly should not use any low resistance (LR) 510 stuff. 510 has totally different attys and carts. 510 is a tube atty with recessed bridge and carts that push into the atty (and I think the carts hold more juice). 306 is a short atty w/ external bridge w/ carts that push over the atty so they have a small push-up juice cup.

I don't know if there are battery voltage diffs between 306 and 510. I think a standard 510 battery lasts a bit longer at 180mah where Joye 306 is 150mah. And 510 also has mega xl batteries available - longer and last 280mah. BTW the best thing about manual 510 (and maybe 306) batteries is they are totally sealed on the threaded end - so juice drips from cartos can't kill them. And dripping with a drip tip is only recommended to be done on manual batteries. I think manuals also make it easier to get a good hit.

That Janty puffer is cute - I love the paint markings. If they had sold a manual I would have bought one. Instead I just own a couple of standard res 306 attys and drip tips and I use them for dripping on the manual 510 - they leak through pretty easily when dripping so it's good to have a sealed battery.

Yeah, the Janty Mini-Fogger is a 306 model, and it really is a cute little thing.


I got a few of them when I wanted to try out some 306 atomizers on my 510 batteries.
They actually work quite well for a mini but the cartridges are so small they really don't hold much juice.

And the automatic batteries that they came with had a one of those hated cutoffs.
I really had a hard time taking anything longer than a 2 second drag, so I had to take three drags to get a decent hit.

I get standard resistance 306 attys and carts at LiteCigUSA.net. I do have one 306 cart set up with blue foam stuffing I cut for it. I use it for trying out a new flavor for an extended period or a flavor I like occasionally but not enough to put the flavor in a cartomizer. With the 306 atty in its cart it's about the same size as a Boge cartomizer so it's sort of like a small-capacity long-life washable carto the way I use it on my 510.
