I ended up with a bunch of LR gear (thanks to the local shop giving bad advice when I was just getting started) and a bunch of 1.5ohm dual-coil cartos for my tanks. (That last was all my fault.) My daily-use PV is an evic, but it can't pass 11W - that leaves the DC cartos mediocre at best. I'm going around in circles trying to decide what the next step is. Maybe you guys can help..

I could build a straight mechanical mod (or a basic LM2596 V/V mod) and design it for a reasonable voltage from the start. (LM2596 is probably better there since I won't end up locked into LR for the rest of my life.) I considered a mechanical+kick but the kick also caps at 11W so I'd be back where I started vape-wise.

OR..

I can build a DNA20 mod for the dual coil & standard resistance gear, which leaves the normal single-coil LR stuff for the evic. (DNA20 doesn't go below 4V.) That might be the most flexible, and has the best cool factor, but leaves me only using half my gear at any given time unless I bring a suitcase.. (Long-term that would let me transition over to SR attys as the LR ones retire.)

Finally..

I could just call it a wash and just start buying standard 2.4ish gear, leaving the DC smoktechs on the shelf for some day when I come back to this plan..

I am leaning towards the dna20 idea, but that might just be my desire to tinker. (I have decent assembly skills - nothing like some of the awesomeness you guys have been posting! - and so-so soldering. I understand the dangers of Li-ion batteries, shorts, etc and have a decent understanding of embedded devices. I've even worked in embedded computing - msp430 and ARM linux both - for a while.. The actual design/assembly isn't too worrying for me.)

The only thing that really concerns me about the dna20 is the price/availability of the charging board. The prices aren't on the website, so I can't do a real budget. (I don't imagine its super expensive, but the other half wants a parts sheet before she signs off..)

Thanks for any suggestions/insight you can give :)

49.99 for DNA20D...... 1.50 shipping

as I remember the charging board is less than 8 bucks.... 1.50 shipping

and you could become a verified member on ECF and sell your LR gear in the classified section here in ECF....just a thought.... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/announcements-news/283955-how-become-verified-member.html

Already verified :)

I like $8, I was figuring it would be more. That doesn't make it easy tho :) Although come to think of it, maybe I should see if anyone is selling dna20 mods... dang.. I'm never gonna break even :)

If your hanging out in the mod section that means you may have already been infected with the disease. This disease can wreak havoc on a persons wallet if its not watched very close. :D

All of your ideas have merit...it all depends on how much money you have/want to spend and the tech or bling factor you want.

Well, I got an evic, so clearly the tech/bling factor is high :)

In a perfect world, I think what I want is something similar in size/shape to the gripper, but with a trigger-style fire button and dna20 core.

I'm not sure my case mangling skills are quite up to that yet, but the innards should be easy. (I also haven't done a mockup to see if it can all be crammed into that space.)

Oh, and doesn't look like any of the small-vendors or members are selling off dna20 mods right now. That is probably a good thing for my wallet :)
