I bought my first driper the other day.

A Derringer.

Did my first build this evening, also my first dual coil.

Went for 28g, 7 wraps, 3mm, 1.5 ohms per coil.

It came out .84 ohms. So close enough. :)

Left the Derringer air flow wide open, put in some 6mg juice, and found the sweet spot for me was 25W.

Quite a bit higher than my normal single coil KFv4 build, same coil (only one of them) 1.46 Ohms, 9.5 watts. Lol.

Loved the vape, couldn't believe how mellow it was at 25w, with huge (for me) amounts of vapour.

Switched my normal 5 second hit down to a 1 second hit. :)

Also loving the form factor on my Vapor Flask.

All in all a great first driper experience.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know the Derringer.

Only minor issue is that when we'll juiced up, it does spit a bit at 25w.

Didn't do this at 20w, but I prefer the vape at 25.

Any way to minimise the spit back?

Drippers spit. No way around it. Those short top style attys spit worse because your mouth is almost literally right on top of the coil. I bought a GA Rampage mostly for the umbrella it has inside that minimizes the blisters on my tongue. That and the long chuff tip work great. You can choke off the air flow a little. It might help, but will cut down the cloud size.

That's a nice job, man! I've only been building a few months and due to old eyes and fat fingers I haven't managed dual coils. As for the spitting, I got a Royal Hunter with a little "bug" screen in the top. Haven't had any spitting at about the same settings you're using. Flavor is very good too.

I'm hoping the mesh design of the RH chuff cap takes off. Makes a HUGE difference.

As for keeping the juice out of your mouth, sputter can be reduced somewhat by slowing your inhale. The more you build the better you'll understand heat flux and once you get that to your sweet spot, you should find you can get a nice mellow and warm vape without the thing frying up like an egg.

Not bad at all for first build I recently bought a derringer and I love it the flavour is awesome! I'm using a lemo long drip tip online and don't get spitback at all maybe invest into a longer one?

Thanks Poohed. I switched to a longer Pyrex dip tip, it's an improvement.

Guess I can live with a little spitting.

Used the Derringer all day today, watts have climbed up to 30. Still a great smooth and cool vape. :)

This is my build. Dual coil 28 awg 7 wraps on 2.5mm. .75 ohm. Firing 20w on ProVari 3 with boost 2. No spit back.

Yes, that was my experience as well. The spit back started at 25w, at 20w I didn't get any either.

But I did prefer the vape at 25w, so I'll probably just put up with a bit of spitting.

That's a very tidy build! I'll work on mine.

Your picture quality it excellent too, what are you using? Obviously not the camera on an old BlackBerry like I am. :)

I tried it on iStick 30w firing at 25w also no spit back. Picture took from iPhone 5s.

My drip tip is as close as Praxis except Praxis is a bit thicker. I think mine no spit back cause mine is build on 2.5 mm and your 3 mm and I push mine close to air hole and above. I read somewhere that let the air pass the bottom of the coil. I'm still exploring whether the air should pass below or above or direct hit the coil.

Thanks @thmstwwng

I moved to the 3mm ID while learning to build on my KFv4. It is fairly fussy about the wicking, and I got the best results on it with 3mm.

The Derringer by design is not at all fussy about the wicking, so I'll take your advise and try 2.5mm ID, and play with the coil to airflow spacing.

Still loving the Derringer :)

In my experience owning a mini rda for a month now (freakshow mini), twisted kanthal builds can help reduce spit back tremendously! I hated the FSmini when I first got it because of how often it spit into my mouth. With twisted wire though, I have nothing but love for the thing hahaha. I'm running it at .13ohms on a mech, so that certainly is quite a bit higher than 25watts ;) so yeah, give a twisted build a try!

Clean build! I've actu found that lower ohm builds spit less. I have a freakshow mini so I know how it is to have your mouth so close to the coils. There's not really a sure fire way around it. Unless the coils are real hot when you start to pull it's going to spit some. I also have a dark horse and full sized freakshow and even at the exact same ohm builds they spit less due to being larger attys. but a quick way to kinda cheat the spitting is to blow into the rda while the button is pushed for 1/2 a second and then immediately draw through. that lets the coil get hot and actually vape the juice rather than sputtering as much

Below if you want flavor. Direct if you want a cloud. Not sure of any advantage to having it above though. But if you look at known flavor attys their airflow comes from below the coil, and cloud attys come from directly on the coil. You can play with the position of your coil in your rda to find what you like best

Took you advise, went for a 28g, 2.5mm ID, 7wraps, Dual Coil.

Actually came out 0.69 ohms, again - close enough :)

Lifted the coils so the tops are a fraction higher than the centre post. Tried to push the coils as far out to the sides as possible.

Fantastic! Absolutely no spitting at 30w.

Thanks for the tip!
