I'm rusty with building.

I got a derringer rda I wanna build with a dual coil setup, probably with twisted wire. I have 28g wire.

Approximately how many wraps on each coil do I need to get to .50 ohms?

What inner diameter of the coil?

Approx 5 wraps around a 2.5 mm mandrel, this is assuming dual coil. I wouldn't use twisted wire in the derringer, it will tend to spit pretty wickedly.
You will need to go to 10 wraps per coil if you are going to use twisted 28 awg.
What sort of device are you mounting this on?

    A reo grand.

Ok. No twisted wire you're the second person who's warned me about it in the derringer.

    Thanks!

No problem, the derringer can be problematic with spitting since the short airpath doesn't give it time/space to dissipate.
The AFC ring is turnable in relation to the deck for good reason, I think the derringer tends to spit a bit less if you keep each coil centered in between the positive and negative posts rather than centered with the deck, then setting the AFC ring so the air holes, coils, and positive post are all in a line.
Also, since you didn't specify which wire you have, I assumed kanthal since it is the most common.
If you haven't started using steam engine yet, it is very helpful for fine tuning your vape, especially with a mech.
