So I've ordered my first real mech mod (bought a crappy one for $80 at a local smoke shop).

What I got (Clones... cause I'm poor):
Hades Clone (cause it takes a 26650 battery and I end up chain vaping half the time)

Patriot Clone (USPS said they delivered it today but I didn't get it. Not the first time. If he passes my house he just drops it off at someone elses house down the street so I'll have to call and complain... again.)

I ordered 28ga kathal 50ft (prepared for a lot of trial and error... plus it's only $6)

So the Hades clone was supposed to come with a Sony 26650 battery but it got "held up by customs". They are offering an MNKE battery they can send out now if I want. They said the Sony's could be held for up to 60 days and it's been 10 already.

Would you guys recommend taking the MNKE over waiting for the Sony?
What coil would you recommend for a Patriot Clone on a Hades Clone?
Are all OHMs readers created equal? I have read the USB one is garbage and the Chinese knock offs are crap too.
Should I be using a different size kanthal or will I be ok with the 28ga for starting?

MNKEs are great batteries, I'd easily take that in place of the Sony to avoid a lengthy wait. The Sony's are 50amp and the MNKEs are 20 IIRC so it's a fairly large difference in current rating, but realistically you probably aren't going to hit either limit are you? The 20 amps of the MNKE will take you safely down to right about .20 ohm The Sonys are the better battery for sure, but the MNKEs aren't bad by any means. Might as well take the $10 and buy the Sony somewhere else if they gave you that option though.

As for coils, the Patriot is a three post RDA with a good amount of deck room so you have some options. What type of vape are you looking for? If you are new to rebuilding a simple dual coil build might be best, if you let us know what type of vape you're after we can suggest # of wraps.

I've had several different generic "black box" ohm readers and they've all worked great, reliable and accurate. Like with any cheap mass produced device coming out of China some lemons are probably going to make their way to store shelves but overall you should be fine.

28g is a great size for new builders and as an all around wire size.Once you get a good grasp on building coils you can even twist the 28g together instead of buying different wire.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Thanks for the great info... I have no sense of smell so I believe my taste is diminished. So I'm typically looking for a good tasting vape.

Yeah this is my first... I'm new to all this and I'm the type of person who likes to research the crap out of everything. However, with this stuff, there seems to be no end to the research and 1000 different opinions. So I'm going against my norm and diving in instead.

So I think I'll wait for the Sony and order an MNKE for now..... They don't seem to be very available unless I want to buy a fake on eBay or amazon... This is one that I found though. Will this work? I was directed to RTD Vapors for my other battery but they don't seem to carry any 26650's from what I've seen.

MNKE 26650 Battery

Been trying to read about protected and unprotected and what is best....etc.... Makes my head spin. When I think I have my answer, I see someone else's opinion that makes me rethink my conclusion from the first 5 hours of research.
