OK so I rewicked it, it the cotton slides in and out fine, but I'm still getting dry hits unless I cover up the airhole and take a hit without firing. I have to do this several times in between hits before I see any bubbles. I am so frustrated!!!

Crud. I was really hopping it was a common build problem. Can you post pics of your setup? It would be especially useful to see how your wicks lie on the deck.

Cotton is not your friend in this scenario. Got some ekowool/silica lieing around? You gotta try some builds and fiddle with it a little until you figure out that deck, coil lift-off, and the channels. Cotton is kinda a bad starting point as you can't really adjust. When it's wrong you definitely know, and now your wick is broke. Was it too much wick? Was it too much tail? Was I choking the chamber? Was I too close to the channels? Was I close enough to the channels? Did I boil my cotton long enough? Is this even good quality cotton? Too many variables and you can't really adjust and rule them out cause you have a burned up wick now and zero frame of reference. Cotton is great, but not when you are trying to figuring out how to wick and lay a deck on a new device. 1mm ekowool is pretty forgiving. Once you get a solid setup and know how to replicate it, you can then start on playing with cotton as it's the only new variable in the situation. If it burns up, you know it's certainly the wicking and have less variables to mess with and shouldn't have to question the coil, lift-off, decking.
