Well, I think I just got my first short, but I'm not sure what to do about it! I was using a setup I don't normally use, and don't understand what has happened.

I normally use the fuse and an 801 style atty for 3.7v vaping. However, I had just switched to the new style spring and good quality LR 901 (+ rethreader) that I use in my ego. Pressed the button on the GG- nothing happened (maybe a squeak instead of a hiss). When I took the GG apart the spring was very hot; the IMR 18500 battery was fine. I guess that means the spring also worked as a fuse, just like it was designed to do (thanks Imeo!).

The same setup (LR901 + spring) with a IMR 16340 worked fine.
The same setup (18500 + spring) worked fine.

The AW18500 in question reads 4.07v and is about a year old.

Did the atty cause the short, or the battery? What do I do now? Should I throw out the 18500 battery, the 901 atty, both of them, or just not use them together in combination?

I really can't help you out further. When my atty was messed up it read on my multimeter at like 9.0ohms(It was an LR atty). It made the spring + button very hot so I unscrewed the GGTS as fast as I possibly could. I changed out the atomizer and used the same battery and everything was perfect again.

I hope you get this solved.

NM: just reread. Your atty is probably fine and so is your battery... Is it possible the adapter shorted? Was it the one that comes from Imeo or some other? Just a shot in the dark, as the center post on adapters can get tweaked and possibly short. You didn't over tighten the telescope did you?

Thanks for trying to help silent.

I won't use the battery or atty until I know they are still safe to use. I thought maybe I had caused the short by putting it all together badly or something, but after I took it all apart, checked everything and replaced the spring, the same thing happened after I carefully put it back together again. I would like to understand what caused the short so I can try and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Wish I knew more about these things, lol.

ggero, which threads do you mean? I put vaseline on the atty connector threads - they look like they could do with a clean, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for?

JollyRoger, Yes it was the adapter for 901 atties that came with the GGTS. I suppose I might have screwed the telescope a little tight - I like it so it doesn't move around too much, but I always have it like that, and I'm quite careful not to over-tighten.

Thanks for your replies.

JollyRogers, you were right. It seems to be the re-threader, although I still don't understand how or why!

I swapped it for one of other types and it worked fine. I also swapped for one of the old brass GG re-threaders and that was fine as well! All I can think of is that sometimes when these adapters stick, I use pliers to remove it from the atomiser. The threads are a little rough in one place, but it screwed on without my noticing anything wrong. Could that have caused the short?

Edit: Correction - it was a little difficult to screw on. The first few times I screwed it on through the top cap, so maybe wouldn't have noticed.
