I was thinking a fatter ss wick would wick more efficiently. I made a new one and this one fits rather tight in the wick hole of my AGA T2. But this one doesn't seem to be wicking as well as the other ones I made that fitted a bit looser in the hole. I'm having to tilt a lot.

If you have a really snug fit like this, does that hinder the wicking efficiency? Or is it just the overall build quality of the wick itself?

Also, if I want to bore out the hole a little bigger on the AGA T2, do I need a special kind of drill bit? I seen these titanium nitride coated bits at Harbor Freight. Will they do the trick?

Thanks.

Yeah, the outside of the wick does a lot of the work, keep some clearance.

edit: that is, if you are using a wick rolled "solid". Hollow/straw wicks may be more forgiving; but, in either case, you are sacrificing more surface area than gaining wickiness by building so big that you choke off the outside.l

If you want to increase the size of the wick, you will need to drill the hole larger so it's not a tight fit.

Okay, that makes sense. Got it.

I've drilled with ordinary drill bits. MUCH better than a fancy drill bit is "cutting fluid". It's like 2-3 bucks for a bottle, and it really works like a dream. The brand I use is "Rapid Tap". A few drops on your drill bit, a drop or two in the hole as you progress.

Okay. Thanks for that, pdib.
