The wires on my passthrough broke right at the body where they gozzinta, from stress and movement i guess. I couldn't get the end off to get at the wires, so i cut it off with a tubing cutter.

The wire strands seem to be coated with some sort of non-conductive... stuff... i've never seen anything quite like it before. It's strange because the wires are soldered where they go through the board, but soldering the broken ends together doesn't make for conductivity.

Can someone clue me what i do about these wires? Or, how to disassemble the unit so i can change the wires altogether? I just need it to get me through until i can get a new one in the mail.

Thanks much,
- joe

Has anyone dismantled one these, (or a battery, i guess they must be similar), can tell me if it's possble to get the brass end off and the switch out? I reckon i'd rather have a longer wire anyway, in case i want to kick back. If i accidentally kick back now i can accidentally pull everything off my desk.

I just know how, sometimes, i destroy things getting them apart then i'm all bummed out to see how simply they would've come apart if i'd known how to do it. So i don't want to just like, take screwdrivers and vice-grips to it.

Thanks,
- joe

Well i took mine all apart, so it's irrelevant to me now. But yeah, i'm sure it's gonna happen to someone else and those wires just baffled me. SOMEHOW they soldered them at the ends, so i assumed they were coated with something but whatever it might be, i can't get it off. :/

Also the switch is glued in so that it aligns with the hole. I wasn't able to pry it loose without pulling the wires off the atty end. It's all working again but it sure don't look like it used to. :D

So at any rate i think i figured out that it ain't done gracefully.

noted.

I was able to get connectivity through those wires - in case anybody else has this problem. I heated the stripped ends with a lighter for a short time. then scraped the wires with a razor. I assume that whatever coating is on the wires became brittle from the heat, then fell right off when scraping.

I was still not able to fix the PT, I thing the wire disconnected from the switch. I could not get a solid contact between the end of the wire sticking out and the center of the atty connector.

I've got a new one coming, first thing i'm gonna do is hot glue where the wire gozzinta, and see if i can get some in the hole, whatver i can do to prevent it happening again in the first place. I suppose silicone glue might work as well or better.

I think it mostly happened where it did because of the wire abrading where it passes through the hole, and secondarily because of stress i.e., that's where the wire bends the most and the most often.

Cheap-azz dang thing, when i got inside of it.
