I'm not sure where to put this topic. So I'll just post it here and the moderators can move it wherever they deem neccesary.
The topic about the 510 connection is better explained in this link Good info about 510 Connectors
I have a couple mods where the 510 center post has gotten smooshed down. Due to over tightening atty's, rba's, ect. And I have found little info on this subject. The only info I came up with is making the connection work by using adapters (and hoping it would work) or gently prying the inside and lifting the center post back up, or pulling the center post out altogether and resoldering and reinsulating.
Some say to always use an (510 to 510 adapter as an example) adapter from the get-go to avoid this problem. But what if you don't want to use an adapter because it makes your mod less appealing?...Then I guess you could end up with this problem.
So I was thinking...What about an insulated spacer?
A small round piece of metal with a rubber washer around it, small enough to fit inside the 510 connection. I tried this on one of my mods and it worked. But I can't find any vendors that sells anything similar to what I just described.
The closest thing I found was from Avid Vapor. Here is the link. 510 Threaded Connector Insulators - Avid Vaper But the only thing they are selling in that link is the rubber insulator.
Does anyone know a vendor selling an insulated spacer with the metal inside?
The insulated spacer would extend the inside center post that has been smooshed down....Now I know if the center post gets too squashed down it might just short out the mod altogether. And I also know about post pulling atty's. But what if even doing that doesn't make a good connection?
All atty's and RBA's are made differently and some make good connections and some are just a bit off...causing people to think that maybe the atty is DOA, when it's really the center post connection they can't see inside, especially if they only have one device to try it on.
I wouldn't care if the atty didn't screw down all the way with the insulated spacer in place. Just as long as the airflow is good and the atty makes a good connection. If someone has a link to something similar being sold. Please share.
Otherwise I have some ideas on how to make my own.
Thanks.
