I have one of those cheap alum tube flashlights. Inside had the battery hold for 3 AAA's. Would it be comparable to a 18500 battery if I used 3 AAA 1.2V 850mah batteries in this?
I was using the 3x AAA Ni-MH with my flashlight mod. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/185565-mod-battery-configuration-question.html
The Ni-MH just does not have the power to fire atty/carto. I am using 3 ohm cartomizer. I used a volt meter to measure to voltage when i carto is fired up. The volt just drop from 4.2 (3x 1.3 freshly charged) to 2.6 volt. You will get some vapor if you do a long drag.
I am still waiting for my 10440 Li-ion. Once i get them, i will modify the battery cartridge to use 2 10440 in parallel. I am also thinking to put a LDO regulator in place of one battery space and make it a 5 volt.
Anyway, for the time being, i am still using my Joye 510 and the pass through i made. I only use the flashlight mod on emergency when nothing available.
hope this help
Sammorris is right on. The three 1.2V batteries will have the voltage, but not the power. Modding the battery holder to use just one 10440 or two in parallel is one option. 16340s work well and are shorter, so you have more room for a switch, etc. You'll need something to hold them in place, and I have found the center of a pop-up sprinkler to work perfect!
Here is some update of my flashlight mod. I finally got the 10440 batteries. They are a little too long for the battery case that came with the box. But the length of 14500, 3.6 V would fit but not wide enough. So I picked up a 1/2" schedule 40 pvc and cut it to the length of the battery. i fitted perfectly. I didn't created this idea. The credit should go to someone in the forum. I forgot who it was.
The silver one is the 10440 and the blue one is 14500.
hope this help.
PS. I am aware that it is not a protected battery. I will get the protected battery soon.
