There are people who have soldered the magnet to the top of the batt (dholms), to prevent what Trunker mentioned. You have to be very carefull putting a hot soldering iron on a batt, this is not a recommended fix, very easy to damage the batt and yourself. I believe pdib created a custom firing pin out of brass to accommodate some of his flat tops. Either way it requires some heavy modding, and you've got to know what you're doing and have the right tools. Generally you want to avoid flat tops if possible.

Just measured a panny ncr18650b (flat) and an aw 1600imr (button) . Exactly the same. The protection takes up a little space. I don't use the pannies in my reo except in an emergency, but I have and they work fine. The aw just hits better in general on a .9 ohm build. I don't have any 30a Sony to measure, maybe someone else can speak to that.

I must confess I've been running the 30amp Sony's, the Samsung INR18650-20R 2000mAh, and the MNKE's with and without the magnet. The magnets (from Radio Shack) hold pretty strong and they don't move but my Grand's worked better for me without the magnet. I had some misfires using the magnet even though it didn't move.

That's just me - When I run sub Ω I want a battery that doesn't come close to breaking a sweat. I know the AW 1600's (24amp) are a better fit but I do like the 2000mAh Samsung's from KP - they last all day.

Like other folks have stated, if you go below .5Ω you will have problems with the firing pin sparking and quickly oxidizing. I have found that to be true. Hanging ~.8Ω now - much better.
