I've heard a lot of people say that they get more flavor from their 901 than from their 510's. I only own a 510, but I've noticed that when I use the flat tip cartridges I'm getting a much easier draw and a LOT more flavor than with the regular round carts (I can't explain it, it's just considerably different). I believe the 901's use a flat tip mouthpiece as well. I'm wondering if this could be the difference? Any thoughts?

Maybe that's why I get more flavor than reported. I've had them since about day 3. It's an easier draw, I think from a better 'seal'. Less battery use, less heat, etc.

Yeah, I only ordered 5 since I wasn't sure I'd like them, but I find that aside from the flavor and draw being better, I like being able to hold it in my teeth without drooling all down the e-cig! I gotta get me some more. I also think (surprisingly, at first) that it actually feels more like a real cigarette in my mouth too. I think this is due to the fact that the round ones are A) larger than a real cig and B) solid. When you smoke a real cigarette the soft filter kind of conforms to your lips and ends up feeling more like the flat tip. I'm sticking to these.

Right on all accounts. BTW, in case you didn't know, there are (at least) two types of flat tips. I originally got my first ones at dietsmokes (thanks to surf monkey) and the tip itself is a bit wider than the other one. To me that one feels like there's more lip space - end to curve, but eyeballing it the spec looks the same as the other.

The other was from eastmall - blue writing on the box - the other box was blank white. And the flat tip on the eastmall one is thinner vertically. And the cartridge is different - first one I've seen like that but read about them here. It's D shaped and it appears that because of that there is more volume in the actual cart area. The 'airflow on the one side is a bit larger than one on the other type. The other thing is that the filler is glued to the bottom of the cartridge and I think when you remove that and the glue that it might open up an opening in the center of the mouthpiece where you can get fluid. So you'd have to find a way to clean the filler while it's in the cart and I don't think the straw mod is an option. I could be wrong on that but the one where I pulled the filler/glued bottom out, I get juice in the mouth a lot.

At any rate, because I like the feel of the dietsmokes type, I'll just be buying that and I have changed everything over along with 'testing/sampling carts that I keep on hand, clean, in order to try out a new flavors.

And I agree, it does feel more like a real cig to me. perhaps the compression of the filter....

I have the Eastmall version with the D shaped opening. The airflow does seem better, and the capacity is deceptively large. From the outside, and even looking inside, it seems smaller than the round carts, but it actually holds as much if not more. I did remove that glue right away so that helps. Glad I caught that stuff before I started using them. I was weirded out at first, not knowing what it was.

I would have to agree with the OP; in my experience (and I've passed this on to a few other people) the 901 flat tip cartridges do produce a much better flavour on the 510. Conversely, if I bang a 510 cart on a 901, the taste goes to hell (it also burns quite a bit). I don't tend to push the 901 cart all the way on to the 510 as this seems to create less 'liquid in my mouth' events. The 510 mouth pieces are made out of what feels like a horrible plastic, like sucking on a drain pipe or something.

My first assessment was that the D carts are a bit bigger. The air channel on the flat side is bigger than either one of the sides of the normal cart but I'm guessing that the two still has more sq inch area than the one. But it isn't obstructive in any way. I must have moved the second 'baffle' out of place when I pulled the filler with the glue on the bottom because I think it ruined it - getting juice in mouth like a 4081 auto.

And I'd highly suggest trying the dietsmoke flat tips if you happen to get something else there, throw in a pack of those. The Widow got some in too - not sure which type. And ecigexpress has the same as dietsmokes.

I definitely want to try out both versions. I'm not getting the juice issue with my flat tips. Dunno what could have happened there.

From what i've found there appears to be THREE different type of Whistle tips available for the 901's

There is
the D shape with a recessed air gap
The D shape with the air gap the same height as the filling
and the Squished (0) type of cartridge with recessed air gaps...

I've found i get liquid in my mouth when using the type where the air gap is the same height at the Cartridge filler(Man i need to learn some technical terms)

IMO i like the Squished 0 type the Best..no juice in my Mouth And Seemed to me to have the best airflow..

I think most people's initial thinking is, "If it's round, it'll be more like a cigarette.", but they don't take into account the size and the fact that it's so solid. It feels more like biting on a pen. The flat tips definitely feel more natural. I'm going to keep an eye out for all of the types to see which one I like the best, but I'm definitely switching full on to flat tips.

I'll have to look for the other D type 'same height' one for the 510. And I like the 0 type as well, seems to fit my lips better and it will take a 'bite' better as well.

I'm pretty sure that when I grabbed the filler that was glued to the 'floor' of the cart (I called it a baffle) I dislodged it from it's place. which then allows a straight shot for the juice from the filler right into the mouth hole. If I blow and draw rapidly on that cart I can feel and hear the movement of that 'floor plate' If you take a pin and go through the mouth hole you'll run into it. If you push too hard you'll dislodge it. I've done that before trying to figure a way to 'drip' with a syringe without removing the cart... ;-)

I had heard the whistle tips were better so I ordered some but unfortunately never did receive them even though the company said their tracking system had them as delivered  I know they arent expensive it's the principal... won't order from that company again and they happen to be right here in Texas... I will order some though as I think I'd prefer that kind of tip.

Upon removing a 901 flat tip for cleaning and refilling I too noticed a solid white type substance at the hole side of the filler? The glue you mentioned?
I too do much prefer the flat tip for use with the 510; I will however be looking out for this deposit on my filler.
Is there another thread on this issue that I missed?
Happy Vapes,
Mike
