Hi friends, wow ! very strange problem. Quit smoking, began vaping again. I've upgraded to .3 sub ohm coil, on a Triton. Rated at 45-55 watts. PG/VG 50/50. Now, when I add any flavoring even 2%, I cough my brains out !! So, I reduced wattage all the way down to 30 watts, still cough. Doesn't matter what flavors I use at 2%. French vanilla, apple, banana, etc.... Even reduced nic to 1mg.

When I make pg/vg only, 1 to 3mg nic, no coughing, even cranking the battery up to 55 watts. Last year, flavors did not make me cough, even at 20% - 24%, but now I'm vaping again coughing up a storm adding 2% flavor. Very strange.

Has anyone experienced this before ?

between here and there
HI,
I just asked about the flavoring in the other thread you started then read this. If this is something that was not present before then obviously something is new and or present that wasn't there before. Have you been to see a dr? Have you been exposed to anything that would affect your lungs and/or breathing recently?

One possibility is that you have developed a sensitivity to certain or possibly most flavorings. This happened to me after vaping most everything for the first two years, and it has happened to a number of longer term vapers I know. The symptoms vary between us from my extreme throat irritation to one vaper thinking they had bronchitis, but cutting out the flavoring cleared them up.

The good news is that unflavored works for you, so you have a starting point to keep vaping!

One strategy is to add just a touch of flavoring to a tank or bottle, literally just a drop or two. After vaping unflavored for a while, that tiny bit of flavoring can be quite noticeable and satisfying.

Another possibility is finding flavorings that don't cause the reaction. For me, mints and menthols don't give me irritation so they are my all day vapes.

For DIY, little to no flavoring means your cost just dropped, so there is a silver lining. Good luck sorting this out!

Might try flavor blenders with different bases/carriers (suspension media) to hold the flavor extracts. I know some flavoring are alcohol based.
Some FlavourArt's flavors are diketone ( flavourings containing Diacetyl, Acetoin or Acetyl Propionyl.) free. I would check the various blender MSD (material safety data sheet (MSDS) information and see if there is a common element used in the flavoring your using which may cause your cough.

Hi friends, thanks for all your feedback. French vanilla from WL, doesn't make me cough, but also notice the flavor is much more stronger then other flavors, so I don't inhale as hard. Weak flavors, I increased to 10%-12%, before I noticed flavor, but made me cough, some did smell like alcohol or perfume.

Believe I may have found the problem, in the past I was vaping 1.8 ohm coil, no problem with any flavor, now vaping at .3 ohms, inhaling the same as 1.8 ohm, makes me cough, so just need to learn not to inhale so deeply. The battery is indicating 3.5 - 4 second inhale. Will try to reduce to 2 seconds. See if the coughing fit stops.
