Flooding Carto

I'm sure this has been addressed before but I didn't have time to search through the entire list of threads that mentioned flooding(there were a lot!).

I recently moved from a Volcano Inferno tank set up(my first e-cig) to a Provari Mini set up. I've been vaping about 1 1/2 months now, so still new to this. My issue is the carto in the tank on my provari keeps floodinig out. I've tried raising the voltage, blowing it out, equalizing pressure in the tank, and ended up wasting quite a bit of juice doing these things. Any other suggestions for this issue?

I'm using smok carto's that came with the provari set up. Dual holes in the carto's...maybe I should plug one? Any help is appreciated.

What's the pg/vg ratio on your juice? Something high PG might be a bit thin and so having a 2 hole punch may be causing issue. Make sure that when you clean things out after a flood occurs you swab the 510 connection on your Provari too. It collects a bit of juice. I hate saying this because someone always recommends something else whenever someone has troubles... but I used a carto tank when I first started (DCT tank)...it was semi reliable, meaning I'd get a few hours of trouble free vape, then it would flood for no reason and it would take me a a few hours of fiddling before it would stop. Rinse and repeat. The two most enjoyable vape experiences I've had were just using a cartomizer without tank and dealing with topping things off as needed. And the second was when I switched to a Protank. Yeah you can have flooding issues with protanks and you'll see 5 people come in after me hating them and another 5 loving them. Same thing for carto tanks...people will say they're great for beginners and others say not.

For every 1 hour of trouble I have with a Protank... I have a days worth or more of trouble free vaping pleasure. I have noticed that things on my Provari tend to flood more prominently than things on my iTaste MVP. I'm thinking part of that has to do with the airflow difference between a MVP and Provari...with the Provari having a less airy, hard draw and therefor (in my head) sucking more juice in.

I just keep learning and fiddling to see what works best for me. I may circle back to tanks or even try RBA's someday. I'm not in this PV game to be an expert fiddler of vape equipment...no more so than I was into smoking to try and get a non working lighter to light. It's just about getting the nicotine and not getting it from a analog. The path of least resistance wins for me.

depending on the pg/vg ration of my juice, 2 hole cartos will flood from time to time, depending on what device i am using. some have a tighter draw on them, so i slotted out the ego connections on some of my more used batts, and it helps to ease the draw a little bit. not a world of difference, but it helps.
so now i have a collection of 1,2 and 3 hole cartos. the 3 holes will get used in winter when its always cold, so the juice will tend to stay thicker ( i work outside all day)
for the most part, for 50/50 i use the dual holes and anything with higher than 50%pg i will use the single hole.

if you have dual holes, you can take a carto condom and cut the end off and then cut a small v in it. take off the top cap of the tank, and slide the condom on(v pointing down) and cover 1 of the holes. the v will allow juice in through the other hole while sealing off the 2nd.

also, i have learned that with some tank setups (like the artimus) you just have to take longer, slower pulls on it. if you draw too quick or hard, it will tend to draw juice into an already saturated carto.

Get a carto punch and new cartos and add holes that will work with your juice. Prepunched cartos have never worked for me, either too little or too much juice. I punch my own, and get it to my sweet spot with my rather thick juice. Many good cartos and punches out there. Time to shop. Good luck, Power up and Vape On!

The only true carto problem fix I have found is to not use a carto and it seems to work great for me anyways. I have found this fix to work for allot of different devices besides cartos and am happy with the results.

Your not helping his situation play boy.......lol

I think everyone that has used Carto's or is now a Carto fan has had the ex-wife Carto experience.

Its not a very friendly element but, when you get them down pat grab n go never leaks on the seat of your car its worth the journey.
I believe that the "Carto Tank' is not for the beginner Vapor.
In the beginning all you want to do is get a good Vape going.......... New to vaping stay away from the Carto tank:2c:

I prefer carto/tanks over clearos. My liquid is on the thin side 80/20 and two prepunched holes seems to work fairly well. Are your cartos laser punched? The holes are pretty small.

If you use high VG liquid you probably have more of an issue with flooding. Might not seem to make sense, but a friend who vapes high VG liquid puts an extra hole a bit higher up. They said that seems to help.

There are some carto/tanks with the screw that are very easy for beginners to start with. They may not look as great but you can fill through the screw or remove the screw if the carto is dry. I think Mom and Pop and a few other suppliers carry them.

If you make sure the carto is filled before placing it in the tank, they're pretty easy.

There is a learning curve with cartotanks; anyone that has tried one knows this. If you are persistant and try different things out, you'll likely find a combination that works best for you and your vaping habits.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned already is your draw technique. Too hard of a draw can encourage too much juice into the carto. I've found that a slow, gentle, longer draw works best. 4 - 6 seconds long. Think a "straw in a thick milkshake" kind of draw.

When you try to salvage a flooded carto, try turning the tank upside down and blow out the tank through the drip tip. You want the wick holes of the carto in the air space, not in the juice when you blow it out. Blowing the carto out when the wick holes are in the liquid causes more juice to enter the carto because of the suction and force - not what you want. Be sure to have a paper towel on the other end of the tank to catch the blown out juice.

Smoktech cartos have a less dense polyfill, so they may be more prone to flood than other brand cartos. You might want to try either Boge or Ikenvape cartos to see if they are less likely to flood on you.

I love my Carto's
What I am saying is its so much to take in all at once.
For the beginner that just wants to vape and not smoke analogs.
There is so many easier options.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate the suggestions. I have heard from more than one source now that Boge seems to be the way to go for Carto's and punching your own holes so I think I'll look into going this route. The two laser drilled holes and a 50/50 mix on the juice seems to not be a good combo. Thanks agiain everyone for the replies and advice. This forum rocks!!!
