My best guess is that you have the flu. As @tailland said, transitioning is a tricky time so it's best to see a doctor to make sure it's not something more serious.

If your nicotine has dropped it could make you feel weak and shaky, but it wouldn't cause shortness of breath. That's a 'seek medical advice immediately' symptom.

Once you get things cleared with the doctor, we'll be happy to help you along the road to quitting!

... literally a day in I'm having feverish chills, breath feels shorter and just feel like I have flu. Is this normal and is it more Iikely to be caused by the vape or by quitting cigarettes?
Option 3: More likely you are getting the flu.

Something to keep in mind, by quitting smoking, you are denying your body of all the equally addictive chemical toxins present in tobacco smoke, which can present themselves as withdrawal symptoms all of their own.

I'm not so sure you need to see your doc immediately, though, depending upon how severe your shortness of breath is. If the symptoms persist for 2 - 3 days, then obviously seek medical treatment.

I made the switch three days ago and currently on 18mg nicotein (was a fairly heavy smoker on 30 a day), literally a day in I'm having feverish chills, breath feels shorter and just feel like I have flu. Is this normal and is it more Iikely to be caused by the vape or by quitting cigarettes?

Thank you :) xxx
If you feel sick, yes, seek medical care.

I haven't heard of those reactions to tobacco withdrawal, however, you might be overdosing the nicotine in the vape? I know a few new users who are hitting the vape every other breath! You must put it down. Let the nicotine work it's way into your system. Remember, tobacco nic hits within 10 or 15 seconds. Vape nic takes 1 or 2 minutes.

Good luck, friend!!

In the interim, be sure to drink a lot of fluids.

Getting to a doctor, in my opinion, is always a good idea if you are feeling sick. But I also think it is a good idea for all people to see a doctor when they quit smoking to get a baseline health assessment so you can see the improvement in health over the next few months and years.

Good luck.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Might want to quit vaping, while your sick. I would not want to associate vaping with feeling sick just starting out.
Might like to read, #2 In particular. It lists a wide range of tobacco withdrawal issues, which are hard to find in one place :
A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette

Yes the body is weird, so while transitioning you may feel a bit funny until it settles , but if you do stick with vaping you will eventually get less sick. Myself and many others here have noticed at least a 50 percent decrease in colds and flues after vaping for a while...good luck

i see that others have said it but perhaps you have the flu lol.

i say this based on the fact that i'm just now getting over some nasty ailment. .... was really rough on the ol' respiratory system. a friend caught it not long after me and actually went to the doc and walked away with a prescription for steroids and antibiotics, and they gave him a nebulizer as well i guess lol. he's doing much better, as am i. but i'd be worried if i were you and would probably head to the doc as well. may want to lay off inhaling anything other than oxygen til you're feeling better, if you can (i know i couldn't, was still vaping pretty consistently while i was sick recently).

good luck and feel better!

Oh, great. Now vaping causes flu! Somebody tell Gottleib - it's an epidemic!

Just kidding, of course. You probably have the flu. Or, you're experiencing withdrawal, and your body is more sensitive to it than some. Dude, first few days are pretty tough. And withdrawal is real, but the physical part of it is short lived (psychological part can last a long time). I don't know if you've quit before, but even if you're still getting nicotine, you're kind of addicted to getting 7,000 chemicals from tobacco combustion in your body. Naturally, if you feel that bad, see a doctor. But trust me and others who've smoked 40+ years - you're not gonna feel quite right the first few days. But see a doctor anyway, if only for piece of mind. Trust me again - vaping will make you feel MUCH better than smoking, eventually! Oh, and if your doctor suggests you quit vaping because it's dangerous, and go back to smoking, switch doctors immediately.

Way too many variables. I would see a doctor to rule out a medical cause but do your flu like symptoms include a temperature of any sort or did they ever? Do you feel better, worse the same after you wake up and haven't vaped at all overnight?

It could indeed just be the flu but if you are getting SEVERE shortness of breath for ANY reason get the to thy practitioner/an urgent care whatever.

The could be withdrawal symptoms and I could tell you what MINE were like, but that's the problem with the internet, I'm not able to inhabit your body so eh, hard to say.

Could be you are sensitive to one or another vape ingredients and that is giving you symptoms. Those ingredients would include VG, PG, flavorings and nic.. I happen to have issues with PG a sensitivity meaning it's not like an allergy but it's unpleasant to vape. Your nic could be too high (or, too low) vanillas make me hoarse for some reason so I don't vape them.

I had a nice vaping doctor to help me sort some of this out, but regardless do involve your medical practitioner, and develop a plan to proceed that is safe, etc.

Hm. @GrantReardon94 was seen last Wednesday. Are we taking bets what happened in the meantime?
Well he went a week between his first post above and his last post, and didn't mention anything about flu symptoms. I'm betting he's no longer having symptoms or at least figured out what was causing them.

I caught a virus, it turned into bronchitis, I saw my doc who said it was just a virus but gave me abx if it didn't get better over the weekend, which it didn't so I did. I'm pretty sure it's sick season by now here. It could have been the flu, I don't really know like what the flu is "like" without being a smoker for decades. I do know I had to go a day without vaping and just used snus because I was coughing so hard. I did not blame my vapes, although I missed them.

I hope it was the flu and I just got mine over with for the season.

Some years back a chart on a wall in a doctors waiting room changed my way of thinking. And which meds (or symptom masks) to pick.

It spoke of allergies, versus colds, versus influenza.
- Allergies often get mistaken for colds. Symptoms include body aches and feeling feverish but... body temperature is normal (minus an infection). Symptoms may linger for several days depending on the severity of the allergy, resistance and other factors.
- Colds are often thought of as flu due a fever and genarally feeling pretty lousy. Symptoms like a low grade fever usually subside in 3-4 days (again minus an infection).
- Flu typically has a fever over 100°F. Flu typically lasts 7 days or more and symptoms are severe. Much more severe than a cold. Now this is a sinus flu. Some flu hits the stomach or both.

After reading that I realized I get a cold about once a year, allergy attack 3-4 times a year and the flu about once a decade.
Allergies make me feel like hell and I may or may not miss a day at work. A cold causes me to miss a day or three. The flu? See ya next month. I'm out at least 2 weeks.

Sometimes we can pick up a "flu bug" and not end up with full blown symptoms.

Sometimes even allergy attacks can cause athsma, bronchitis and if unchecked pnuemonia.

Alot of people switching to vaping start coughing up all kinds of crud and they think it's from ejuice. Its actually your lungs being able to clear them selves out for the first time. And I went straight to sub ohm from 2 packs a day and 3mg was making me sick from to much nic. If your blowing huge clouds I'd lower the mg. If your mtl your probably fine.
