I'm flying to mexico next week, and I plan to bring my equipment. If I were staying in the US I wouldn't have any issues carrying everything on the plane with me, but considering I'm gonna have to go though customs, I think it just makes more sense transport everything in my checked bag. I don't plan to use anything on the plane anyway.

I was on the airlines website today and it has a paragraph about lithium batteries. I have six 18350 batteries for my provari, and it says that you can't put lithium batteries in your checked bag, but they are allowed in a carry on bag as long as they are in a case preventing the terminals from shorting together, or if the ends are covered with pieces of tape.

The batteries will be the only vape equipment in my carry on bag. But for some reason I'm worried that I will be questioned about it. This is my first time flying in 16 years, so I'm paranoid about security anyway, even though I'm not trying to do anything illegal. Anybody have any problems with batteries in their checked luggage? I kind of just want to say screw it and put the batteries in my checked luggage anyway, but I'm afraid my bag won't show up on the other end in mexico if I do. I assume they xray everything.

You would be correct to assume they use xray.
I flew to Hawaii last year and had a couple of liquor bottles in my checked bag.
When I arrived, I found a note in my bag that it had been opened and inspected.
Nothing was missing since I followed TSA regulations.
Put your batteries in a case and in your carry-on. Just don't load one in your ProVari.

I would take your some of your gear with you. Use it in the airport, I have and they are allowed. I did not put any of my gear in checked baggage when I flew from Germany to the US in Dec. German Customs ask what it was and I told them. They were completely fine with it.

So basically what I am saying is, if you have room, just bring it with you with your carry on.

I've never had any problem with Li-ion batteries in my carry-on bag. A plastic pill bottle works fine for two 14650 batteries so that's what I use. I've packed up to eight batteries this way in a carry-on bag.

I keep the battery in my APV which stays in my pocket. I don't use it on the plane or inside airports. I use nicotine gum during flights. The E-Power 14650 just goes into the tray with my keys, wallet, etc. during TSA inspection. Never had a problem with it.

I'm not going to bring any of my gear with me on the carry on. I really don't see the point. I don't plan to use it. I'm bring some snus with me to use in the airports and the plane if I really feel I need it.

I only put one eGo twist with a clearo on it in my carryon on a trip, thinking I wouldn't need more than that until after I landed. Then they lost my bag and it didn't show up for about seven hours. It was not fun. If I were you, I would throw a bottle of juice in a quart bag and pack something you can use in an emergency in your carryon. I fly about once a month and I always pack my batteries in my carryon. I've never had a problem. I take them out of my Provari, put them in a plastic case that keeps them from touching each other. I usually have a couple of twists in my purse, too, and no problem at all. The only thing I put in my checked bag is my extra bottles of liquid.

I remember following your thread when that happened JudeD. The difference in my situation is I'm going to have snus with me. I'll also smoke cigarettes sometimes. I don't smoke cigarettes very often, but on occasion I do, and it doesn't bother me. If my bag gets lost, the last thing on my mind is going to be my PV stuff. I'm gonna be more worried about all my clothes.

What will happen if they catch you with lithium batteries in your checked bag while going through customs? I'm asking because I honestly don't know, but I would be more worried about that than following the airline's rules and putting them in your carryon.

Ha, ha, I would be thinking, "I can buy more clothes, but where would I get e-liquid while in Mexico if I lost my bags?" How long are you going for?

If they open the bag and find them they will confiscate them.

I should add, I was hand searched because TSA agents were alerted to my Silver Bullet with a battery loaded inside.
They hadn't seen one before.
They swiped it with a cloth that they ran through a machine that reported explosive. (Probably glycerine residue)

I guess I will be carrying them on with me then. Maybe my thinking is backwards, but doesn't it seem safer to have batteries in checked luggage where people can't access them, rather than in the cabin of the airplane where they could actually be used for harm?

Any problems bringing the Provari in your carry on? I'm flying to New York for a week in a couple of months, and I really want to take it, but I'm nervous about carrying it with me - it's sort of an ominious-looking item to be carrying onto a plane for someone who doesn't know what it is.

No, never any problem for me. I take the batteries out and take the tank off and no one has ever even asked me about it.

I could be wrong, but I think they want them in the pressurized cabin instead of in the luggage hold where the temp can be extreme and the air pressure could affect them. Also, if something went wrong with one of them, it would be easier, IMO, to deal with it in the cabin where you would see it ignite or whatever than in the hold where no one could do anything about it. That's just my thinking, but like I said, I could be wrong. I'm just guessing.
