I think TBev is still on forced vacation

I've been looking at that Lancia dripper. Think I might have to give one a try.

Off topic.

Did you see what I did with my Rose V2 today?

0.465Ω with 1.0mm Flat Ribbon at 30 Watts on a Mech.
I don't know how long will it last, but so far it vapes very nice.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here plugging the fogger, got mine a few days ago (4.4), have a nice build in there now and love it!
For anyone interested it is 30 gauge kanthal, 2.5mm at 8 wraps which came out at 1.3ohms on a Vamo V5 and couldn't be happier!

Edit: One quick question, I know Vamo's are regulated to 15w but at 1.3ohms it will pump 6v through this tank with no problems. Is it placebo affect that i think it creates bigger clouds at 6v or is the vamp 'dim' enough it will go over 15watts in volt mode?

cheers

Does anyone find that their coils gunk pretty seriously in the fogger?

I'm using rayon, 30ga, 1.6ohms net, at 15 watts. The wicks themselves are OK, maybe a bit discolored. But the coils themselves just get a layer of gunk on top.

Being new to the fogger, it does take me a good 15-20 minutes to rewick, so I don't that often. Every other week or so.

I don't have a ton of RBA experience, so I can't say what causes the gunk. Too little power? Not wicking right? Too close to/far from airholes, or just not enough air, period?

I just know that it doesn't happen nearly as bad in my single coil trident RDA, although I do tend to dry burn and rewick more regularly.

You need to read how JeremyR and others were able to run 100 ml of liquid through their rayon builds without re-wicking.

In the knot shell:
1. Micro coil will gunk up faster then spaced coil.
2.Choosing a right rayon density inside the coil is very critical.
3. Properly positioning your coil not too close to the airhole to make sure that the entire coil gets cooled (not just some of it)
4. NET is going to gunk up your coil faster then other juices, that said: I think every other week is OK. IMO
5. I'm assuming (you didn't mention) you have V4.4 (V4.1) the latest revision of Fogger V4? That one, in my opinion, has pretty narrow horizontal airholes. Not enough air supply will also contribute to gunking up your coils. But at your 15 Watts, I think you are OK.
Lastly, the more you practice rebuilding, the better you'll become at it and soon enough, re-wicking your Fogger will become like changing your socks.

Thanks AMD, I assumed it was probably just my rayon skills that are lacking. I've been trying to take the rayon thread advice to heart. I've been trying to up the density a little, but I often get muted flavor doing so. I guess I just haven't hit that sweet spot yet, or have hit it, but my coils are jacked.

I'm also thinking I might want a bit more power because 30 gauge and me just don't get along. I still don't know how awsum can work with 32ga and the fogger!

Here's a pic for reference. It does look like the coils are a bit close to the airholes, but I'm not positive.

Those coils probably saw... 15-25ml, but I'd still expect a little less crust. It is just the top of the coils from what I could tell, which I guess does point to not enough rayon.

I'll just keep rewicking then, every tank, until I get it dead-on in 10 minutes or less!

ETA: oh yeah, always DIY juice. Mostly fruity mixes with a little cream and sweetener thrown in, 70% VG.

readueler, 32 gauge in a Fogger is easy! Try 34 gauge in a CE3 for some fun!

Seriously, it's not hard to do. I do torch the wire before I wrap to get some of the temper out of it, but using my little "needle coil winder" makes it really easy to produce a good coil. Two pairs of needle tipped tweezers and a jewelers loupe makes it fairly easy to get things installed. One more trick is to make a little "jig" for the base out of a piece of 2x3, just drill a hole in the middle of the 3 side. Then, a couple of those red rubber bands used on celery can be used to hold needles with coils on them on both sides at the same time. Fairly solid to work with really simplifies it.

I've either got to get a new tablet or a smaller SD card for my camera so I can post some photos.

I use rayon, CCr in particular, and easily get 3+ weeks out of a wick with daily filling. But just like the advice for Kayfun I've found that trimming the tails makes a huge difference in how well they perform. Check out the rayon thread for good examples of how to trim the tails. That should ultimately help you keep the coils cleaner but you'll never match 100ml through a dripper because the airflow is restricted along with a hotter coil from the smaller chamber.

I do think heat may be my enemy. With 1.6 ohm 30 gauge compressed coils at 15 watts, it's a surprisingly warm vape. I'll keep playing with my wick; density, tail-thinning, etc. I may also try lower resistance spaced coils to bring the heat down, if I can't get the wick right. I've tried adding density, but seem to hit "too much" with only a bit more than I'm using. I know my wicks can use some work, so I'll keep trying to figure that out. My first build did have almost no tails, and it worked well (but the coils were pretty bad). I'll have to really hack away at them next time.

Awsum, it's not exactly the wrapping of the 30ga that's getting me, it's how mangled they get after rewicking or positioning. So that probably does boil down to my wrapping, a sturdier coil might hold its shape better.

Here are my coils brand new. Not terrible I hope, but I do see the end wraps pushing away from the rest of the group. But if you compare with my gunky coil picture a few posts back, you can see all sorts of shearing has occurred, and they're no longer nice cylinders.

I do need to invest in a decent ohm reader rather than building everything on this brick called a VTR... It still needs a little help staying upright at times, so I can't fully use both hands throughout the entire building/wicking process.

I feel a little silly with the pros hot rodding their Foggers, and me still trying to get my training wheels to work!

I'll get it figured out one day, I will. I'm sure giving the same advice gets old :) I'll go study something...

Keeping the form inside the coil when installing the coil is the key, both coils in a Fogger since installing the second can distort the first one as the screw is tightened. I also use a "third hand" to tweak the coil a bit before I put it in.

As far as distorting the coil when wicking is concerned, I do see some minor distortion occur as the wick density approaches the right amount but the coil does spring back as I work the wick back and forth at that point. After it's wicked and trimmed, a little more tweaking and I'm good to go.

Seems my ekowool from what, almost 2 months ago is holding up well, same with coils. No new (burnt) taste in the setup, and It has gone though about 30ml so far. Not much mileage, but to me mileage is how long it lasts time wise. Kind of curious to rebuild almost for the heck of practice, but why fix what isn't broken yet? And it never leaked on me to boot.

Oh thanks for the link, I never knew that frog in fog delivers free worldwide! I have some other problems with my big fogger, will have to buy a drill to fix the airhole, but certainly the center post and insulator look terrible too.

Does anyone know if their Achilles RDA clone is actually made out of titanium? It seems incredible for $27!

I think part 2 to delaying a rebuild is because i'll likely enlarge the air holes, try to drill the posts, etc and just not in a mood for an overhaul like that right now. Been staring at the Erlkonigen stuff too, seems like a neat single coil tank.

My Erlkonigen and Squape Reloaded have not arrived yet. :toast:

Enjoying Tobeco Orchid v4 @ 1 Ohm on ZNA 50 @ 20 Watts. Producing! Going to put it up against the Fogger v5 later this week when it arrives. I saw that the springs are not good (use included screws instead)...look forward to all the new features.

Been traveling? Noticed no TBev? I'm moving back to Vegas soon and wanted to see those 4.2's in action and swap some DIY!
