https://www.popvox.com/bills/us/112/hr3214 support this now!

EDIT: here's my comment
I support this bill, H.R. 3214, the Food and Drug Administration Mission Reform Act of 2011, because I believe the FDA as it currently stands is FAR out of line. The FDA seems to me at least to be completely biased towards big drug companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, etc, and reflects this bias in it's policies and regulations by making it so only companies such as those described before could possibly afford to have their products tested and approved while the little guy will never get his products -- however lifesaving they may be -- approved because he can't afford the FDA's outrageous fees! I strongly encourage everybody in congress to vote a big "yes" on this one, you could save a life!

i'm not up on fda practice, but i don't think this addresses regulatory capture at all. in fact the opposite. i would expect this to be some kind of 'jurisdiction grab'. platitudes like the following are an affront until they get serious about COI issues.

(2) establish a regulatory system that--
..
(C) is based on the best available science;

in the above you can read 'best available' as 'politically palatable'.
