So, I'm over 3 full weeks of solely vaping (go me!), and as per the norm, all my senses are coming back in full force. While I'm a slender gal, I have always loved food and the general euphoria that accompanies eating it. But now, food is so strong in taste and smell that I'm almost put off by it. I had one of my favorite dishes this evening and filled up my bowl with its chicken alfredo deliciousness... and I just couldn't finish it because it was so overpowering. My belly is saddened. Do I have some fellow vapers out there with similar experiences?

Not sure if this will apply to you, but the first few months I vaped I did lose weight because I was taking in nicotine more than when I smoked (under half a pack a day as opposed to vaping during pretty much all waking hours) and it suppressed the heck out of my appetite.

Sounds like you are getting your old senses back; make sure you stay very hydrated with water and hopefully your appetite will return to its normal state!

no problem with the aroma of good stuff bothering me.... its the stuff that smelled "off" or unpleasant took on an even more potent aspect... diesel fumes being the worst one ( highway driving), wet dogs, sweaty people, .... burps... kinda wish that part on my sense of smell didnt improve... ;)

I now hate mustard.

Funny about that one - I love it all the more now that I have my sense of taste back. The hotter the better. :p

I don't know what to tell the OP, but once you get your senses of taste and smell back things sure are different. One of the things that absolutely went dead in the water for me? McDonalds. McDonalds anything. Tried it a couple months after I completely quit smoking and all I tasted was grease & salt. And can you taste wilted lettuce? I guess so.

Don't think I have revisited that experience more than six times in the 5 years since I quit smoking.

Not like I loved McDonalds or was a frequent flyer when I was a smoker, but after I quit - yuck. Just yuck.

I have been vaping for almost 3 1/2 years and cigarette free after the first 2 days of vaping. My tastes have also changed. I used to love sweet stuff, chocolate, ice cream etc. Now I love spicy, savory, anything pickled such as garlic stuffed olives :) Also pepper jack cheese! or any kind of cheese for that matter

I started smoking at ten ish. Full time by 12. About 12 weeks since my last cig (I think) and damn. Its a whole new world for me. I can smell wild mushrooms for 30 feet or so (not a fan), garbage dumpster used to be annoying when I opened the lid, now its when I can see one and it's over 80F or so, I can tell you when my neighbors go out to smoke, and everything is too salty unless I make it. How do never smokers live like this? On the upside, I always liked garlic and it's ten times better now, and a good rare steak is off the charts. Hell, even tortillas taste like something.

Also you body and tastes change every 7 years. E.G some food you like may change, you may find your self allergic to stuff that you where not before.

I have been vaping for around 2 months now. and not see any change in smell or taste but i have always had a heighten smell and taste.

used to smoke 20 smokes per day.

I'm a foodie, too, but fortunately I never went through that "oh, yuk" phase. My husband did, however. He couldn't STAND the smell of eggs fried in butter (our usual breakfast) for about a month or so after he quit smoking and started vaping. Thankfully, he got over it. ;) I love eggs, and since I'm the cook, that's what's for breakfast.

My sense of smell, which I always thought was good, has gotten even better, and WHO KNEW THE DOGS FARTED SO MUCH? And now I can smell if a skunk walks by half a mile from here! Yes, there are some odors I would rather not smell in such detail, but you get used to it after a while and it all becomes "normal" again. ;) Just keep on keepin' on, you're doing a good job!

I think the keeping hydrated situation is part of what makes it worse. I'm lousy at drinking water. I drink coffee, tea, and soda. Beer/wine in the evenings (which go great with the vape, might I add). I'm pretty sure the Sahara desert migrates from its current continent to my mouth, every night. I need to work on the water issue for sure.

The old adage "You gotta take the good with the bad" is ever so relevant to the issue of renewed sense and taste. Lol. The silver lining is that all smelly-goods smell reaaaal good. But yeah, my pups are extra stinky these days. My Heinz 57 is an oil factory, so everything he lays on smells like potent dog oil. And my English Setter's long, flowy coat is a hoarder of all things nasty. But I wouldn't have them any other way. [emoji173]

Thanks for the encouragement, too! Vaping has definitely done a lot for me. I absolutely love it, even with it changing a few things here and there. [emoji4]

Understandable! I never used to drink just plain water until I started vaping...not only did the 50/50 VG/PG juice I used to Vape dehydrate me, I had raging vaper's tongue and each sip of water regenerated my taste buds, at least a little.

Buy yourself an attractive refillable water bottle (I like Nalgene) and some Crystal Light flavor packets to incentivize you and remind you to drink it. Good luck! :)
