OMG! I never realized there was so much to this. All I want to do is quit smoking! Sounds like rocket science to me!
Now I'm getting all nervous thinking about whether I'll be able to do this.

One of the big problems with this habit is the gadget aspect. Many of us including me are gadget freaks so this becomes a lot more then it needs to be. If you want the most non-hassle easy way to start vaping I would grab a vapor king from vapor4life. They work great right out of the box and IMHO the best for people who just want an PV that works without any hassle.

I'm fairly new and can't post threads yet, but I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out a bit.

I've killed three atomizers in three weeks, one in less than a day. They came from different suppliers, so it can't be a bad batch of attys at fault here. They're m401s and I'm fairly certain I'm overfilling them by accident, so now I've gone back to carts from BetterSmoke. Problem is, I've got juice I want to use and the carts are a bit more expensive than I can afford for as much as I enjoy vaping.

Any suggestions on what I could do to keep from killing my attys? Should I stick with filling with a hypo, try to find a replacement filter material, or just stick to carts? I love my ecig (it's gorgeous and doesn't stink like analogs), but I'd like to keep costs down and my constant screwing up is costing me.

Edit: Found some interesting Youtube videos and other threads here that may work. Would you believe I didn't even know there was an inner cartridge? My god, I've got a lot to learn here. I'll leave this post up as is in case anyone has any additional advice for me.

I'm not sure I'm re-filling my little 510 carts correctly - or else I'm expecting too much.
Here's the issue: when i attach a pre-filled (I still have a few left from when the PV came) the taste is strong and I vape until the filler material is almost completely white. At this point I figure its pretty much empty of juice and needs a top up. I drip about 3 drops into it (any more and it pools at the top) and shove the arm of a hair pin (bobby pin) down one side in case of air traps. The I primer puff a couple of times before vaping but the taste is no where near as strong and I *am* using the same strength nic from my little juice bottle. I also have some 0 nic which iwas hoping would just provide flavor but I can hardly taste those at all although they smell wonderful (all the same make btw - the ones I got from cignot when I ordered the PV - and they are all VG)

What everyone says, and has been my experience also, is that with VG you get a lot of vapor but little taste, where as with PG you get a lot of taste but little vapor. I suspect your carts had both PG and VG, but the liquid you have is all VG. I mix my own with 70% PG and 30% VG so I get both flavor and decent vapor. I add a little extra flavoring to compensate for the VG and the reduced flavor which happens also when I vape at 5 volts. For max flavor, however, 100% PG at 3.7v can not be beat, IMO.

I think if you want to try the blue foam, you need to be careful. They coat that stuff in chemicals and it needs to be thoroughly washed before using. I'm not sure then I'd trust it, but then, I use no cart mod, have no problems, and only use polyfill.

I'm pretty sure your taste problem is that you are using VG liquid and VG gives good vapor but it really lowers the taste of the flavoring in the juice. If you like vapor, want a smooth VG taste, but also want great flavor....go to Nhaler and try their juices. They have the high voltage (you can use them in any PV not just the 6v) in 12mg nic and the other juices in 12 or 24. I believe their lung juices are also in 12 or 24. They must put some VG in with their PG because their juices give great flavor, great vapor and are smoother than pure PG juices. You can get 6ml samplers to try them out.

As far as the polyfill, the trick to filling your polyfill in the carts is just to put enough in there to keep the surface tension between the fibers of the polyfill and the liquid. There is no need to cram the cart full. And yes, the polyfill should stop before it gets to the lip of the cart, it should not be stickly out beyond the lip. Some prefilled carts come too tightly packed, I just take the scissors to their polyfill, snip a little off the sides and pop back in. It makes it easy to get the stuff in, and you can tell when your cart is full of juice by just poking the filler aside a little at the top with a toothpick. And you can get a roll that will probably last your lifetime for $6.00.

Yeah did the snipping off part - still seem to vape out before the polyfill looks dry - I kind of gave up and went to direct dripping because its easier lol.
I am still going to try the blue foam becaue I hate to be defeated by an inanimate object :D
I do take the point hough that they use polyfill because they probably had access to everything and decided the polyfill was 'best' for the job (not sure if they'd have thought of of fishtank filter material though cos it IS kinda 'out there' lol) and its certainly cheap.
I also think I was expecting it to last longer than its physically capable of lasting because I vape a lot and hard. I'll either find a good cart filler that suits me perfectly or Ill stay with direct dripping as that seems fairly idiot-proof :)

Edit: just to add - I do use all manner of juices now - PG/VG mix mostly but also plain PG and plain VG (flavored ones). The only real difference I notice is the the viscosity.

Fish are more sensitive to chemicals than humans. They have a much more primitive liver/filtering system than do humans. If the foam were treated with toxic chemicals, it wouldn't sell due to fish die-off. What basis do you use to state that the foam is coated with chemicals?

There is a residue taste that some can taste. Run the foam through a dishwasher cycle and the taste is gone.

OTOH, commercial cart fill is polyester fiber. Which can burn and does taste nasty when burned. I'm uncertain if burned polyesters are benign or not. I've yet to burn the blue foam, and I've burnt the cart holding the blue foam from chain-vaping.

i also had problems with the prefilled carts, and then refilling carts. then i switched to the Auto Drip Mod (ADM) you can find the video in the cartridge modders forum. it works fantastic for me, and i no longer have any problems, and i have been using the same cart for weeks now (p.s. you should periodically sterilize the cart and spring) in boiling water.

OMG, I'm like the other person, I'm new to this and I don't know if I can get all this. I have already bought 3 different e-cigs, and still smoking cigs. I just got a 510 today and got some empty carts. Do I just put some juice in? Do I have to do something else. Oh, yesterday I was using the KR808D-1, all of a sudden the cart was so hot it burnt my lip, what that about? I had no idea there was so much to know.

Well I went to the dollar tree and bought some of those green scrubbie pads and use that in my carts. So far it works like a dream! It wicks great without drowned the atty and I have noticed that it wicks the attire cart to the last drop. No funky taste either. I just cut a lenght twice as long as the cart fold it over stuff it in and fill.

I have to say using a syringe to fill KR808D-1 carts really works well for me. I don't even have an actual needle but a plastic point that you can buy anywhere. It's used for teeth irrigation and the plastic tip is strong and doesn't break. I suppose an actual 16 gauge needle would be even better. I don't know why this isn't more popular.

so, where can i get this blue foam and how muchis the cost?????

People here on the forums call it "fluval" and they say you get it at any pet store in the aquarium dept. It is used as a filter in fish tanks. It comes in sheets and it's cheap! I'm gonna go buy some in the next couple days to get my friend started with his new Ecig. I may even give it a try:) It sure is hard to drip while driving:)

For a 510 or other small cart Ecig, fluval is a good substitute because you can do the straw mod and make room for more juice in the cart, thus a longer lasting vape between fills.

The fix is to buy an Ego with Mega type A Cone or type B Cylinder atomizer. These give you 1.5ml and 2.5ml juice capacity (respectively) in one filling and a better tasting vape. The Ego battery lasts 5 or 6 hours on a charge and the large cart capacity lets you vape all you want, all day, on two fills that are as quick to fill as the 510.

Highly recommended.
