Aka flashlight tubes with silver or golf plated contacts. Which is great but i just saw a silver plated mechanical mod from china for 10 dollars shipped !

I know your mod is like a tattoo, an expression of ones self and i cant fault you at all then. or its a status symbol but $250 for a battery tube with the most simplest mechanical circuit known to man kind i cant faukt you either. Hey enjoy it if you got one and makes you happy - i have no business telling anyone what makes them happy. Some of them are very pretty and do deserve a markup i just dont see that big of markup. Post more designed to the newbie letting them know that a 25 dollar mech will perform just as good as a 250 one.

Same goes with these rbas. Been studying alot of reports from people who own the real ones and who own the clones and some say the clones work better. The designer should be compensated cause there is slightly more involved than a flashlight tube and its intellectual property but they still seem overpriced. Instead of $150 why not 50-70$. I think they would see a whole lot more people opt for the original than have a collection of $20 dollar kayfun clones

My final rant is that everyone who enjoys vaping and doesnt own a mechanical mod with a topper they they need to go out and get one. Cause your precious regulated vaporizer with a 15 dollar chinese chip (unless its a dna chip- but stuff can still go wrong with any chip) in it will break at some point. I hope it doesnt. Just be prepared and buy a 10 dollar mech mod so you can still vape while you scope out new mods and/or get your regulated mod fixed

Well... I own a lot of authentic, high dollar mods and atomizers. I also own a few clones. My experience is there are good and bad in both. It's just like with blue jeans or shoes, you can pay 20 for a pair or 150 ... Both can be good quality and you old get bad pairs in either.

The high dollar is in the name/designer. Just like designer clothes. You pay for the name! I own a genuine Nemesis. I love it... But at the same time I've seen clones that you couldn't tell the difference in appearance nor performance. It's the name. I own other authentics and with anything some have flaws... Yes flaws! It's nothing horrid but it happens.

I've spent thousands on all my gear. I decided a few weeks ago that I'm going the clone route from now on... I received a few things that in my opinion are just as good as their originals... So I guess it's up to the buyer. Either pay 250 for an original, or 25 for a clone? I figured I could buy ten times more stuff by buying clones.

Btw: I have a genuine Kayfun and 2 genuine Russians... I received a clone of each for comparison... There is very little difference other than the screws were not stainless steel. That is solved easy by buying screws for pennies. In my opinion, no noticeable difference in performance.

I just ordered a few clones on fasttech to compare to my original mods. Waiting on the slow boat now.

I see OP's point - two hundred dollars for a battery tube seems ridiculous.

But different things are important to different people. I've now flown to Europe twice to see a particular musical. Some might think that's crazy but it was important (and well worth it) to me. I drive a no-frills car but have several fur coats.

I think most people have things they spend money on that other people think is foolish/crazy/wasteful/whatever. As long as you can afford it, I have no problems with people spending money on things that interest them.

Vaping is kind of a hobby outside of being a harm reducing smoking alternative.

Some people like to collect things. If they want to spend $250 for owning a smaller batch mechanical, than that's their choice.

However, the clones prove beyond a doubt that the market is full of at least some form of price gouging.

I liked the way Safer Vapers summed it up: (Warning not safe for work: language)

Well I can't see popping $200 for a mech either, but then I'm poor and my budget dictates what I vape on. I've been using my Sigelei 24 for months now, and I'm pretty happy with it. It was less than $40, including shipping, and the RSST topper was pretty cheap too, under $30. But... if you have the money and you want it enough, go right ahead and buy that $3000 mech with all the fancy engraving. It's your money.

If I had the money I wouldn't be driving a 94 Mazda, I'd be tooling around town in a new Z06 Vette. I'd probably be vaping on a Poldiac with a Z-Atty topper too.

I agree for the most part but it is a touchy subject. I am about to buy an expensive mech mod from a local guy that has been working like mad to get it just right in his machine shop. I'll pay more because I know the blood, sweat, and tears he has put into this mod and it will be very low volume. I am sure that is what drives the high cost of the name brand mods as well but I did a ton of research and bought the EHPro EA mod and a Nemesis clone. Will I buy the name brand versions of these mods? Maybe, only time will tell but I'd have to hold the real one first and compare them to what I have.

Just my $.02, YMMV.

Just remember, if it weren't for the higher end mods and RBA's -- and the innovators who make them -- there would be no clones and copies.

I'm sure glad there are people supporting these innovators.

Most of them aren't making a killing either (due to manufacturing costs & things like VAT). The products often show detailed care in build quality, too.

RBA's see innovation.

Mechanical tube mods? Nothing innovative is going on except it's "looks" and "exclusivity." It's an exploitive and niche market. The price is set where it is, because some people are happy to pay that price.

The King mod is a great example. It's a $230 clone of another $230 mod (Chi You). Or was it the other way around? Which came first the chicken or the egg? Regardless, same mod IMO, different laser engraving.

I can't remember which mech it was, but I read that one of the $200+ Pinoy mechs was actually manufactured in China, and as soon as the limited run was done, the China factory just kept making the EXACT SAME THING and it hit the market retailing for $20.

I'm just really glad there ARE clones, because I live in Brokeville. That EHPro EA, I've seen on other sites called the "Fallen Angel;" that looks GREAT, I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm going to get when we get our fed refund back. If it weren't for clones, I'd never be able to afford anything like that.
