Baseball cards, toy cars, comic books, action figures, coins, sneakers, stamps, toy trains.. The list goes on. What's a comic book worth? To me? Maybe 10 bucks. It's a bunch of paper with pictures and words. Not at all exciting in my eyes. But, to the right buyer, thousands.. Tens of thousands and up. This is because of availability.
China is pumping out clones, or blatant counterfeits, at an astronomical rate. Many of these are even hard to tell the difference in quality from the real things, if there even is a difference. But, there is a major major difference. If you collected comic books how much would you pay for a copy of one? Probably not much. The same holds true with clones.
I have zero desire to own a clone. It just doesn't do anything for me. The fun isn't there.
I go as far as not doing business with companies that sell the counterfeit versions of clones. These being the ones that have all of the same markings and so forth. There is a local vape shop that I won't go to because they support counterfeit products.
As was mentioned earlier clones lose value as soon as you drive them off the lot so go speak. The high end mods, in many cases, go up in value. I just lost an auction on ebay for a black copper Stingray. My max bid was 260. The mod retails for below 200. But, find one in Stock. Seriously, find one. I'll buy it from you for 50 more than you paid. So would a lot of others.
Collectibles have value in just being collectable.
