I have three good quality regulated mods, and three cheap Segelei mechanicals. I bought my first mechanical solely to build coils on, but soon fell into tinkering and modding for the fun of it.

I'm the do-it-yourself type, and like the hands-on flexibility of rba/RDAs and mechanicals better than anything else I've tried. I still love my trusty old Saber Touch mods, but my next major purchase will be a high end mechanical. There's something wonderfully simple and elegant about a mech/rebuildable combo that - to me! - no regulated device can match.

I think the reason people get into collecting mechanical mods over VV/VW mods is the same reason people start collecting shot glasses or anything else that is collectable...

As long as you wrap a coil at a low enough resistance to make your vape powerful enough to your liking, then whether your taking 1 second drags at the beginning & blowing out gigantic plumes of thick milky vapor, or whether your battery is almost dead, at 3.4v and your still getting huge clouds of vapor from 5 to 8 second drags, you can't beat that! You feel like you know your PV & you MADE every plume you blow out.

Couldn't agree more, well said. I know this doesn't contribute anything to the discussion, but so many people seem to miss the "purity" argument, which can be really really satisfying.

No wires or electronics. I drop mine several times a week onto concrete or hard floors. It has seen the bottom of a swimming pool more than once and just shrugged it off. It gets a fully submerged bath each morning before work. And most important of all, it just works, with all of the abuse, day after day like it is supposed to. Over 3 years now and as good as day one.

I'm really new to mechs (just picked up my first, a Magneto), and mods in general (I have an MvP), but here's my opinions so far.

Mech's are sturdier and, in my opinion, usually better looking than their VV/VW brothers. They can also be more versatile, however this requires you to be willing to tinker, or to go the extra mile in terms of clearo head/carto purchases.

If you vape at 6-8 Watts, stock low-res coils will vape pretty much just as well on a mech as on a VV/VW.
If you like to vape at 9-15ish Watts and want to use your favorite carto/clearo you can buy a kick. Suddenly your mech is a VW device.
If you want to vape at 20+ Watts, sub-ohm that sucker and cloud chase (after doing your research and being safe!).
Or you can build your own coils and all of these pretty much become mute points (after doing your research and being safe!).

The majority of VV/VW device will allow you to plug an play any device you want as long as you're looking for a vape lower that 15 Watts. So if you don't want to build your own coils and you don't want to buy a kick (~$45 I think), a VV/VW device will be the best option.

The battery drop off is another problem. However, speaking from my own experience, the voltage drop off from a battery over time isn't a HUGE deal. It's noticeable, but it probably won't ruin your vape, at least not until it hits ~3.5 volts in which case it's time for a battery change anyway.

Plus, there's something innately valuable about knowing how something works or making it work how you want it to. There's a level of hobby-ness that you can get from a mech that just isn't there in a VV/VW mod. This is both a pro and a con. If I knew someone who just wanted to quit smoking I would never EVER tell them to go mech. It's way more work than they want. But, if there's someone who collected pipes, or rolled their own cigarettes, a mech and an RBA might be the only thing that makes vaping more attractive than smoking analogs after the first few months. Going mech, I think, goes hand in had with starting a hobby.

Just a newbies :2c:

I don't think the SB will do sub ohm somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. I think altsmoke is working on a mechanical SB.

If I'm not mistaken... I believe the Silver Bullet is not a "true mechanical" as it has wires for the switch. If that is true then you are 100% right in saying it won't handle sub ohm vaping.

I'm vaping on a Silver Bullet with a dual coil .67 ohm RSST right now.

Here is a pic of a .8 build I did on the same setup.
