For those disappointed with the Vivi Nova

A couple months ago I posted about how disappointed I was with the Vivi Nova cracking at the bottom near the threads of the plastic tank. The problem was mostly likely caused by a couple different things such as using cinnamon juice and the crappy plastic threads located inside the tank itself. The juice would easily leak out of the bottom and of course the vape hits were very airy.

After I switched to a sweet new Phiniac tank and some standard boge cartomizers, I was ready to throw my Vivi Nova in to the Snake River, but for some reason I just wrapped it up and kept it in my drawer.

Just last week I went to my local vape shop here in Boise and noticed they started selling aluminum tanks for the Vivi Nova. They were only a couple bucks and came with some new O-rings so I bought one.

I will say I'm very glad I didn't throw away my Vivi Nova. After switching to one of these new tanks and putting some new O-rings on there it has made a world of difference. The seal is much tighter and I'm much more confident in the threads. The vape hits are smoother than ever and it's quite nice having a secondary tank filled with a different juice when I get bored with what's in my Phiniac.

If there's one thing I'm learning about vaping it's that having a plethora of vaping options is what makes all this worthwhile to me. We all get tired of the same juice if vaped too often. For me, even using the same method of vaping for too long can psychologically alter the way it it tastes. Kind of like when you smoke a real cigarette after a big meal, it is very satisfying. But if you chain smoke 5 cigarettes, the taste isn't that great and it's less satisfying. Changing it up every once and a while with a new tank, carto, clearo, atty, or whatever, really helps.

The only disadvantage to having an aluminum tank is that you can't see exactly how much juice you put in there. Overall, it's a decent option for those who were let down by the default plastic tank that comes with the Vivi Nova. It's a cheap fix and well worth it.

Couldn't agree more. I too bought a black tank. Looks great and feels great. I'm back to re-building the heads as well with new wicks and wire. Still unsure about the silica wicks. I use cotton as well, but they just burn too quickly despite keeping them wet. That's my only gripe with these clearos.

I noticed when disassembling the heads straight from the factory, the wick had a little fabric sleeve of some sort that wrapped around the coil. I wonder if that helps prolong the life of the wick and coil? I threw it away lol.. Did it help any?

I'm not entirely positive what version I purchased. It was from a local shop, but the box doesn't have the version number on it. I just bought it in July so I can only assume it was v2.5. It could have been the older model though and the shop was just getting rid of some old product. Either way, whichever I had definitely cracked after about 2 months or less. It could have been from also tightening it too hard. I just don't trust those threads on the plastic tanks.

I have no problem with cracking issues as I primarily vape sweet, buttery flavors like butterscotch, caramel, etc. But I stopped using my VVN because it would always leak from the threads at the bottom. Did tons of reading, inspected the threads closely, made sure they were "even" when I screwed it on, and it would still leak. I picked up my Torpedo, tipped it to vape, and juice was running down my thumb and onto my pants. The entire drip well was flooded. Try as I might, different juices, it still kept doing it. So that's why it says Vision Vivi Nova (retired) in my signature. I'm almost exclusively using SmokTech DCT tanks now. I won't throw the Nova out or give it away, but it's definitely sitting on my shelf unused.

My problem wasn't with the tank itself, just the vivi nova. It's draw is far from what I'd call usable, and it burns too easily, using any of the heads it came with at almost any voltage. Not something I would buy again. Just threw it in the drawer with the rest of my unusable parts.

I agree with you. Same here.

I had those issues happen with my Smok ReDux, heads just seem of low quality and the entire thing has been a pain in the neck. Except the draw on the ReDux is extremely loose, where as the VVN does have a tighter draw I personally don't find anything bad about it (I prefer a tighter draw I'm finding).

Fingers crossed I don't get any of the same symptoms with my VVN.

I've been using my novas for about 4 or 5 months. No burning or leaking. Sometimes with the standard heads, sometimes rebuilt coils and wicks. Rebuilt is better but I haven't had issues with either. I do like the look of the metal tubes better so that's been what I've used primarily. If you want the metal body but want to see your juice levels, they have some for the novas with a clear window that works great. I think that gotvapes has them under the name stv vivi Nova tanks.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention. My lips and tongue actually got mini-zaps when vaping a VVN. Just like when you rub your socks over a wool carpet and then touch metal. Yep.

I know there is a HUGE fanbase for the ViVi Nova, but I'm in the camp that says, "Meh". Some say it's easy, just refill and go. Oh my goodness, the many, many times I've had to drain, clean, soak, and replace the attys on that thing. No, just no.

With DCT tanks (I wish they would call them something else because I don't use dual coil cartos in DCT tanks, I use single coil), all I have to do is prime the carto with 20-30 drips, fill the tank, and I'm vaping like a champ. Each and every time I've cleaned, re-cleaned, re-atty'ed, re-anything the VVN, it just tastes gross. Then it tastes ok. Then it tastes burnt.

So yes, I am one of the very few who are still disappointed with the VVN.

I'm another "Meh" for the vivi nova (mini in my case). When I first started vaping they were the new hot toy, so I got a couple not knowing any different. After smoking for 40 years, my taste buds were pretty trashed and I couldn't taste a lot of juices. The only juice I could really taste was a candy cane flavor that ended up melting the clear nova tube. I didn't want to get a metal tube because I couldn't see the juice level and when they first came out people were complaining that they leaked. I guess that's improved now. Ultimately, I was "forced" to get glass and polypro tanks to be able to vape the juice I liked. What a difference!! I've got a tank with a Boge carto and one with a Smoktech and they are amazing - consistent hits, they hold lots of liquid and no fiddling around with heads. I still have the novas filled with juices that don't melt plastic, but I use the tanks far more.

I really think the new O-rings also attributed to my success with stopping the leakage I was having before. The combination of a metal tank and some new O-rings really made quite a difference. The draw is very tight and might not be for everybody. It's almost too tight. The reason I like vaping regular cartos and my phiniac is that I actually get a little bit of airiness in each hit. It closer resembles smoking a cigarette.

The VVN reminds me more of a hookah given how tight the vape hits are. However, as I mentioned before, changing it up is very important to me so that I don't get bored with one particular style of vaping. The basic fruit juices like grape and strawberry I keep in the Vivi Nova. The specialty juices like Ecto Plasma, I like keeping in my Phiniac with a regular boge carto.

It's almost like using plastic cups for Natural Light and using a snifter for some Woodfood Reserve.

* Important to note that once the tank on the VVN is down to only about 1/4 of the way full, the vape hits can taste a little funky. Could be burnt. Almost like spoiled juice. I remedy this problem by dabbing a bit of juice on the coil and filling it back up to the top. I feel that over-use of the VVN can also cause this problem. If you're vaping for more than 10 minutes at a time, you might want to set the thing down and let it cool off for a bit.

Overall, I almost gave up hope on the VVN. But for those who want an easy way to vape, I'd say it doesn't get much easier than the VVN, but just save yourself some hassle and get a proper set of O-rings and a nice aluminum tank. If then you decide you like vaping more than smoking, experiment a little and check out the cartomizer and tank method because the investment in a nice Phiniac or other glass tank and various brands of cartos gives you a whole different experience.
