OK, I’m not sure if this belongs here but if not, I can always move it :D

I stumbled across this device when I saw the site name ‘Vapeworld’. I have to admit I am a bit confused on exactly how it operates so I am posting to get others’ input. So here’s what I’m seeing……a smokeless device to vape tobacco without fire. Do I have that right?

If so, I can see some major upsides for those of us who still smoke analogs……possibly getting those ingredients in tobacco we are missing in vaping..…without burning the tobacco? Not a bad price, with lifetime warranty. Probably no more inconvenient to carry than an ecig.

The biggest downside I see, however, (and it’s a biggie) is the lifespan use of the battery. 5 minutes??? Although I feel I might be able to work with this (particularly if it could actually satisfy my ‘tobacco’ needs), making sure I have enough batteries at all times could be a major PITA. I suppose a 15 minute charger would help though.

So I’m just curious….thoughts? I’ve included the original link so you can see how it’s supposed to work….and another one I found on ebay.

You can make one out of a light bulb, an ink pen and a lighter. Or save some money and buy a m pipe.

Sorry I'm kidding I actually would guess that without putting a flame to the tobacco that it would put off less chems. If you grew your own tobacco then you would even know what you were vaping.

I can see how it would work for some people.

I will just do a little snuff once in a while.

Peace!

I thought I read that the harm comes in when you actually burn the chemicals. Ever hear that here before?

The Launch Box is a very respected vaporizer, most owners absolutely love it. Here is the manufacturer's page

Magic-Flight

There is a 100 page thread on the FC forums about it. What has put me off it with tobacco is the fact that you can't truly clean the wood parts. Tobacco will over a few days leave a dirty residue in any vaporizer and it needs a good clean or the flavour starts to get pretty foul. That issue and the fact that it uses batteries has kept me from buying one, and the iolite ticks all the boxes for tobacco that the Launch Box doesn't. For anybody thinking the IO is too pricey or bulky to use, I think the VaporGenie is a better bet.

I'd have a look at smokeless tobacco first. A lot cheaper to try, too.

Doing snus or nasal snuff is a very good way of getting what is missing in e-liquid without the danger of smoking. Many people who have had great difficulty quitting cigarettes have found that supplementing PV's with these products does the trick. They are far less harmful then smoking and rival PV's as far as reduced harm.

Take a look at the smokeless section of this forum. Lots of helpful folks to get you up to speed.

+1

I was still having an analog every other day because i was craving it. yes vaping helps alot but i felt "off" and something missing. i had one every other day because i forced myself to hold off. i was vaping around 4ml a day to fight the urges.

Swedish Snus got rid of my analog cravings...i have not had a regular analog in over 2 weeks with zero urge. i do about 4 to 6 pouches of snus a day and feel completly satisfied. i also dont vape as much as before...less than .5ml a day.

Snus is cheap as well...a can with 24 pouches lasts me 4 to 5 days. at around $3 to $3.50 a can average its not bad.

I can't get Swedish Snus anywhere near that price. It is illegal here and to import it is around $7 per can. I can buy two weeks' worth of tobacco to vape for that price and it is legal to buy everywhere. Also I missed the throat hit when using smokeless products and became increasingly frustrated with ecigs and their disposable batteries and atomizers and all the stuff I had to carry everywhere. Life is simple for me now :)

Price for snus to UK is reasonably OK I thought.

My last order of 5 cans Thunder Frosted loose was equivalent of $2.74 per can from Northerner,
but adding 35% (EU VAT & tobacco tax) = $3.70 per can.

Then there's the $10 delivery per shipment, which is the real killer, actual price $5.70 per can.

So spending from UK for all the types of TF at current prices & including 10 can price break,
final actual price per can works out as below:

24 x 0.94g portions (normal) per can :
£20 = 5 cans at £4.04 each = 5.6 wet g per £
£32 = 10 cans at £3.16 each = 7.1 g per £
£97 = 36 cans at £2.69 each = 8.4 g per £

24 x 0.75g portions (long+thin) per can:
£20 = 5 cans at £4.04 each = 4.5 g per £
£32 = 10 cans at £3.16 each = 5.7 g per £
£97 = 36 cans at £2.78 each = 6.7 g per £

24 x 0.42g portions (mini) per can:
£20 = 5 cans at £3.92 each = 2.55 g per £
£30 = 10 cans at £3.04 each = 3.3 g per £
£92 = 36 cans at £2.57 each = 3.9 g per £

45 g loose snus per can:
£19 = 5 cans at £3.70 each = 12.2 g per £
£31 = 10 cans at £3.05 each = 14.8 g per £
£93 = 36 cans at £2.58 each = 17.4 g per £

Nominal UK online price for Golden Virginia RYO is £12-80 (not incl. shipping) for 50g,
giving 3.9 g per £ (equiv to 7.8 wet snus g), so snus can be cheaper.

Wow, but surely that's around 15 times as much nicotine (etc) in the 240g snus vs 25 g baccy,
even allowing for 'weak' snus, & how much nicotine is actually adsorbed vs what's contained.

240 wet g snus @ 8 mg / wet g @ 40% adsorbed ~= 750 mg (double that if using Thunder Frosted)

25 dry g baccy @ ~10mg per 0.8 dry g @ 15% adsorbed ~= 50 mg

The freebase nicotine level like American Spirit's 36% is the key. Using a brand with a high level of freebase nicotine allows excellent absorption compared to very poor tobaccos for vaping like Golden Virginia. I get far more satisfaction from vaping a small pinch of American Spirit than from a good strong snus like General Onyx. It will truly staisfy for an hour or so and give me a feeling of having had enough after 8-10 puffs just like cigarettes used to do to me.

I won't knock Swedish Snus at all, it is an excellent harm reduction method but for me, vaping tobacco is cheaper and more satisfying with no need to constantly order packages online. I also love the inhaling process and throat hit, so it ticks all the boxes for me.

Kathy, it smells like tobacco, not burning paper and leaves. I am also thinking of getting one of these. I am actually more interested in the "other" alkaloids in tobacco, rather than the nicotine. Nicotine makes me tense by itself, those other alkaloids give me the calm. Been using snus which seem to be good at delivering the "other," but I am an oral hygiene fanatic, so it really isn't something I want to use long term. I know technically, from the lit/research I've read they are not as destructive to the gums as combustibles, but they do tend to stain the teeth.
The e-cigs are great for what they are, but they really set off my anxiety and exacerbate my TMJ/D issues as I clench my jaw when I get tense... sigh. Did the antidepressants and they are not for me... to many side-effects.
I have watched all of frog's vids. I suppose I should re-watch them. I don't think a thorough cleaning would be required when using loose tobacco, unless you are adding VG for vapor.
Come back frog/Andy! I wanna know about the delivery of the "other" in tobacco. Also, which is the best tobacco to buy. Also, where can I get the nifty mouth piece you modded?
