Forgive me, KGD, I have strayed.

About a year ago, when KGD Japanese cotton, and Rayon, both were fairly new on the scene, for wicking materials, I bought both. I bought a box of KGD, containing 60 pads; and around the same time, bought a huge box of CeluCotton rayon from Sally's. At the time, on ECF, as well as other forums, there were fairly heated discussions as to which was a better wicking material. Because of the ease of use, I quickly fell into the KGD camp, and remained there. I even took my huge box of rayon to a local vape meet, put it on a table, and told people to snip off a piece, and give it a try. I brought the rest of the box home, shoved it into a shelf in a closet, and forgot about it. But nobody was getting their hands on my precious KGD.
Yesterday, I was looking around for something else, and ran across my box of CeluCotton. For whatever reason, boredom I guess, I got the box down, and decided to rewick one of my Atomics with the rayon. Now, I had remembered reading that the trick with rayon is to use much more of it than you would cotton. The motto among rayon users was: "cotton users generally use too much. Rayon users use too little." So, with that in mind, I carefully and gently created a piece thick enough to where I could barely pull it through my 2mm coil, without distorting the coil. The piece was probably the size of a pencil.
After squonking it up, I took a hit, and WHOAHH...this stuff is good! The flavor is crisp. Vapor is great. With big, long drags (as big and long as my old lungs could muster), not even a hint of drying out my wick.
My conclusion: Rayon works every bit as well as KGD, vapor and flavor wise. The downside: Rayon takes a little more fussing around to get the amount right. KGD is much easier to work with. No doubt about it. Can I say that one has an edge over the other? No. But for a confirmed KGD user, I'm glad I took another look at rayon.

I agree, Rayon is a good wicking material @Rule62 - and needs to be packed tighter like others have said

I also agree with your comment that it leads to a "crisper" flavour. Somewhat sharper.

For my tastebuds I like the Rayon crispness for my menthol juices. Have it in the Nuppins for my menthol fruity lung hits and in the RM2 for the menthol fruity vapes

For my tobaccoes, i somehow still prefer organic cotton. But I do find a lot of gunk buildup with the tobacco vapes.

I agree with everything you just said and most of what the others have said. I am tempted to try the rxw again but the bottom line is. . . as I get older, the slothlike tendencies in me wins every time. The KGD style cotton is the easiest for me to wick and I have been pleased with the quality of my vape. Of course, I think the reo is responsible for the majority of my vaping bliss. No, I don't "think". The reo "is" everything in life this crazy girl needs.

I don't really see a huge difference either. Maybe the rayon lasts a little longer; I dunno. I've had KGD in one Nuppin, and rayon in another, since last weekend when I started the thread. I have to pull the cap off to see which is which, because my old foggy brain doesn't remember which is which. I vape either one, randomly, throughout the day.

I revisited CC because of this thread after not using it for a very long time. Did a large diameter .48 dual build in a Nuppin' running the AFC wide open. It's working with CC so far as long as I remember to squonk every couple of hits so my VLLH's don't let the CC starve and burn it. Always liked the super fast wicking properties of CC. The flavor with CC is no better or worse than KGD to me though, they both work just fine.

And I did a large and high parallel .6 build in another Nuppin' about an hour ago, also running it with the AFC wide open. Makes massive clouds of rich vapor with either KGD or CC from a single coil. A bit of a PITA to build on a Nuppin', but worth the extra effort. I can see parallel builds coming back into my rotations after not doing them for a year plus. Will do another S/O parallel using 3mm RxW in another Nuppin' (maybe sometime yet in the wee hours tonight) to compare the three builds side by side with the same joose.

Need to run to my mail place to pick up a couple of days worth of vapemail right now though.

No. Cal.
Dusted off the Rayon ( away from the KGD's view of course), thickly wicked up 2 of my singles and yes, no wonder I liked it before . Haven't detected a huge taste difference but have noticed that I don't need to change the wick quite as often as KGD. Not that changing wicks is a big PIA with my small attys (single coil) but one of my favorite juice is clove (big gunker). So instead of daily wick change, it's every 2 or 3 days now. Cool!

Sally's sells both cotton and rayon. You have to read the box to make sure you're getting rayon. The boxes look similar.

No ones ever seen that in stock or available in the store, in rayon.. In store thier cotton.

Hmm, I've been using KGD for over a year now but maybe I should give rayon a try. Where can I buy a small amount?

You can find small samples on eBay/amazon for a few bucks.

Delascos balls for 3.00 - 11 shipped. (Consumer catalog.)

Do you have a girlfriend? It could be in your house right now. Free and good quality if you over look the package.. Do a google search for KU Rayon. There's a video i did too.

I've never seen a rayon wick burned in use.. Its the coil that tastes burnt. You partially dry burned it.. You know how bad a dry burning coil smells.

Soak the coil, Lightly Wipe off the coil to absorb burnt juice and soak it down again - I bet it will be good again right away or in a few hits.

I've vaped 275ml of tobacco juice at 7v and there was very little gunk visable and the wick was still fine.

I didn't order from the link as was $6 for shipping. I'll see if I can find some locally.
Clark F, I found mine locally at Sally's Beauty Supply....but I had to buy a whole box -- 500 feet. Yes, 500 FEET, when I can get about 4-5 wicks out of an inch. If you'll PM me your mailing address, I would be VERY happy to send you a couple of feet. It'll fit in one envelope with one Forever stamp on it. Free, in other words.

I started vaping a few months ago and cotton was the standard answer from literally everyone at the vape shop for weeks. I tried Rayon like last week on my own accord. Cotton is a joke in comparison. NO IDEA where this stupidity from cotton started..
I started a thread a few weeks ago saying that in MY OPINION I tried/found a cotton/rope wick I felt to be better than KGD but some people have the mentality of, can't be because he/she said xyz is the best rather than finding what is best for their liking. Some can crucify me now but I need to go buy some rayon to compare to my rope wicking that I'm currently using now.

Swamper, if you want to try some rayon without buying a whole mess of it, PM me your address and I'll stick a year's supply in an envelope and mail it to you. :) It's worth a try....
