Dont know if my results are good or bad or? But ECF takes forever to load pages never have a problem with other forums I visit.

Line Speed is good to know. If your Line is slow then Everything you send/receive will be slow.

But if only One site you visit is slow then it Probably does have anything to do with your Line Speed.

More probable causes are Java, a Scripting Host Error, Browser Glitch, Firewall and or Anti-Virus Blocking.

Thanks Zoid :) Latency is something that can be really hard to troubleshoot I'm glad that you are bringing up these other issues to try to spread some understanding. Also followers of the subject have long suspected that certain providers optimize their traffic to allow them to get higher scores on the more popular "ping test" sites. Whether this is true or not is really moot once people understand that the ping test result is a result for that particular route at that particular time.

A simple example, I use a VPN for some things and a ipv4 to ipv6 tunnel for other things. sometimes the VPN slows to a crawl because of routing, so disconnecting/reconnecting it "fixes" any latency issues. Sometimes hurricane has issues in routing and I have to disconnect my tunnel or make another endpoint to increase performance.

And sometimes ECF is just plain messed up (like last night around 3am my time)...

No problem O.S.

Just trying to lend a hand when and where I can.

This type Troubleshooting is Difficult. Because the First Rule I learned was Not to Find out What is the Problem. But to find out Where the Problem is.

In Whiskey’s case this is Extremely Difficult because there is no Commonality that can be discerned. There’s nothing to compare it against.

If Whiskey could go to another Computer (known to be working properly with the ECF) and the problem Isn’t observed, then I would focus on Whiskeys Computer. If the Problem was the same on another Computer then I would look more towards the ECF.

If Whiskey doesn’t see problems if Not Logged in to the ECF and Browses the ECF as a Guest, then it might be an Account Problem. If there are the same issues as a Guest then the ECF account can most likely be ruled out.

If the Firewall is Turned Off (I do Not Recommend This.) briefly when Whiskey Experienced a ECF Slow Down and it cures the Problem then I’d scrutinize the Firewall Logs and the Firewall Rules and their Order.

It would also be helpful to know if there were any Errors reported in the Windows Log Files. Or if she is using a Default Configuration of WIN7 or if any Services have been Turned Off.

Also, what changes has occurred about the time when the First Problem with the ECF was seen. Was any New Software Installed. Were there any Updates to Java or .NET? Any Blue Screens or Weird O/S Glitches?

---

Most times the Problem is Relatively Simple to Fix once it’s Location is found. But what happens Many times is People start making Wholesale Changes to things that are Working and that can cause More Problems and make it Very Hard to Isolate what is Really going on.

zoid, whis is not the only one experiencing problems - there are quite a few others who have the same problem but they are not posting here.
look at rem who has just now found this thread! his connection is certainly one of the better ones around and yet ecf pages are slow to load.
whis works with 2 or 3 computers and runs into the lag on all. she also does not experience this on any other website ;)
i'm struggling myself today but my service is so dismal i have to blame verizon before anything else ......

I understand that there areother who are having problems. So where is the Problem Located?

Say the Problem is in the Firewall. And Whiskey uses the same Firewall software for each Computer. Wouldn't she have the same problem on each computer?

Say the Problem is with the ECF. What is the Common thing between All the people having problems?

If everyone reported that the ECF was running slow, that's easy, the ECF is the Problem. But if only a Few People are having problems, and the Easy Fixes have been tried and Failed, then about the only way to figure out what is going on is to Find something that People with Problems have in Common.

Do you know how to use netstat? I would be curious to see a netstat -a report from someone who is having slow ECF pages loads.

That and all the things I mentioned in my last post.

zoid, i don't think there are automatic updates for firewalls - whis only ran into this problem a few days into the last update. all other websites seem to be loading as usual for her .......

as i said before i barely manage to get on ecf today but it's the same all over the web for me ........

See, if it is the same for all over the web then I rule out the ECF as the problem and look at your connection and Network settings browser and Firewall.

It is actualy easier when everything is slow to fix. Because there are fewer things that control all of the network trafic. And there is Usually Only One Fix Needed.

I forgot to ask. Have you ever used netstat -a when the Internet is slow?
